What is the purpose of an epic? There must be a logical explanation to how they could still exist after all this time. Even stranger most people do not realize how regularly they show up. For example, when they read a story, watch a movie, or even play a video game, each and every one of them gives a story with an epic hero. Epics play a huge part in the world’s history from the B.C. ages to now. They show their dreams and values from there culture. As the characters, Beowulf and Aeneas are similar in that they both worship a deity or deities, the characters also experienced similar events that demonstrated courage, such as Aeanes going to the underworld to meet his father, and Beowulf battling devil like monsters. The characters differ by Aeneas having a destiny to fulfill to find Rome, while Beowulf was fulfilling a debt to Hrothgar, while in the book the Aeneid the Gods interfered in Aeanes’s human affairs (purgatory) and Beowulf was displayed as a Christ like figure.

Beowulf and The Iliad are both famous works of literature that have been studied for hundreds of years. Both Beowulf and Achilles are great heroes in their Epics. An important component of these Heroic Epics are their heroes and their how the act. Beowulf always exhibits the traits that would make him an epic hero, and would never do anything dishonorable or that wasn not for the benefit of everyone around him, while Achilles had moments that made him look dishonorable and not heroic. Overall, Beowulf is the better hero because he never gave up and fought for God, while Achilles refused to fight and disrespected Greek traditions such as respecting fallen foes.

Beowulf is a badass, he does what he wants to do, Beowulf does not care if he needs to sacrifice a few of his men in order to complete the task. Beowulf has many heroic qualities such as courage, loyalty, wisdom, boasting and physical strength. Now on the other hand Achilles does not like to sacrifice men for the greater cause, however he is very selfish unlike Beowulf. Achilles is a brave, loyal and cocky man.

Heroism is as old as time and has been told of many times. Odysseus from Homer’s The Odyssey, Beowulf from Beowulf, and today’s heroes share a lot when it comes to the basic tenets of heroism. These tenets are different from time period to time period and from place to place but they all maintain the same core set of attributes of braveness and courageousness.

Through time there are many epic hero stories and poems that have been passed down through time. These epic hero poem come from many sources but mostly they come from cultures. Some epic hero stories are The Iliad, Beowulf and Gilgamesh. The stories include a passion for war and being known to all people for the actions they do. In the Iliad the Greeks are contemplatives that the epic hero in this story engaged in the war and was known for his god skills as a warrior whether or not to return to Chryseis. A place where the Trojans keep people captive. Ach. In Beowulf’s story, it was a little different than the others. Beowulf’s story narrates how he accepted to fight monsters for a king . In the story, Gilgamesh, Gilgamesh was the king of Uruk.

Beowulf and Achilles are both heroes that have been in many battles in they time on this world but they were very different types of heroes with very different traits that made them heroes. Beowulf was self-less, fights fate, and calm will on the other hand Achilles was hot tempered, accepts fate, and selfish. Even with all the things that are different between them they had one big thing that both of them had braver which was one of the things you need to be a good hero.

“Beowulf” and “The Iliad” have plenty of differences but also have plenty of similarities within their stories, structure, and writing styles. For instance they are both poems but “The Iliad” is an ancient poem while “Beowulf” is an epic poem. They are both poems but they are two different types of poems, this is just one of the many similarities and differences in these two stories.

Beowulf closely relates to another epic film called The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the ring, there are certain attributes in both the film and poem that reflect the epic qualities. Just like any other epic Beowulf and The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring contain qualities such as a grand journey or deed of some sort, larger than life hero(s), and divine intervention.
