Take a moment and think "where would the world be today without engineers?" Engineers are very important to the world, without engineers there would be no roads, no houses, no cell phones; we would be in essentially prehistoric times. There's is a large demand for engineers now and in the future; in biomedical engineering, it is predicted that there will be a 62% increase in biomedical engineering positions from 2010-2020, and the average job increase 14% from 2010-2020 (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math: Education for Global Leadership). There aren't very many women in the engineering field making a women engineer more enticing; in fact, only 14% of engineers are women (Crawford). I want to become a biomedical engineer to change the world and how it thinks, and I will do that using the skills I learned through robotics. …show more content…

When our launcher was not working, my partner and I spent 20 hours fixing things trying to figure out what was wrong. Robotics requires you to be self motivated. Another thing it taught me was how to speak up, in robotics you have to get in front of groups of people, present your ideas, and look confident. Lastly, it taught me about the engineering design process. The engineering design process can be used for any type of problem solving. All of these things are very important things to have in your toolbox for life. Through all these lessons, I have had fun and learned valuable skills, and that is what robotics is all about. I have the critical thinking skills, teamwork skills, work ethic, and the ability to persevere. Additionally, I have learned how to work as a minority and still have my voice heard. Robotics has better prepared me for college and life than any other sport could. Thank you for reading and considering my entry for the US National Bank
