A typical West Michigan backyard has tendencies to be a visiting place from some of nature’s finest species. A raccoon, opossum, or even white-tailed deer is very likely. A new likely species? A black bear. The imagination of seeing one of the most potentially dangerous species is actually becoming a reality in many locations all over the area. Many have reported aggressive tendencies from the black bear population. Reports of attacks are emerging throughout the state. Some experts say there is no trend of black bears migration to more southern areas of the state, yet others have projected that Indiana and Illinois will have some sort of black bear population. For the moment, it seems as if we won’t have to prepare ourselves for black bears, but the future may hold new residents to the southern counties of Michigan. Black bears are being spotted almost everyday in territories that are somewhat surprising. The concern for other species are now taking place, and questions are being asked about the risk of other local species. Is there a trend of black bears migrating south? Each year there are seems to be more evidence that black bears are on the move to the southern part of the state. Michigan Radio reports that this a trend for the past “5 to 10 years” for young male black bears to roam south (As spring begins, para. 5). Even though there are growing numbers of sightings, many can conclude they won’t be established in West Michigan for quite some time. If a time comes to
The Grizzly Bear is one of nature’s last keystone species that is contributing to the Western United states and Southwestern Canada. The Grizzly Bear is thought of as a vicious beast who kills people without intent. Grizzly Bears are actually important to the environment and ecosystem that they live in. This Bear is an intelligent animal, which serves a role of preserving a plant’s way of life. It creates soil disturbance which causes more nitrogen to be produced to generate more nutrients for plants.
Today, Louisiana has made extraordinary rescues with species that were once considered threatened or endangered. Due to safe planning and the Endangered Species Act, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service projected to remove the Louisiana Black Bear from the list of threatened species. In May 2015, approximately 350 black bears to 600 black bears existed in Northern Louisiana in which $900,000 was invested to restore its population. Severe habitat loss of the black bear is what initially led to the decline in the population. In 1992, the Louisiana Black Bear was placed on the list of endangered and threatened species and in May 2015, they were officially removed (Wildlife Division - Texas Parks and Wildlife Department,
Outside the british Columbia only about one in a million black bears are white. One of these bears,a subadult male lived near Orr, minnesota in 1996.Hair samples showed him to be genetically different from white Kermode bears.
The white phased black bear was said to have traversed barriers of the sea during the last ice age when glaciers covered most of northwest British Columbia. When temperatures started to rise, and glaciers started to retreat it is believed that the white bear was then isolated on the islands off the coast of BC. The white coats would suggest an adaptation to the white snow for hunting, however if that was the case, the evolutionary trail should have left the recessive gene behind when it was no longer useful to them in the temperate forests. Most research that is done on the Spirit bear is to try and understand the polymorphism of this species and how it has come to last among a low frequency in a minute area. Evidence now suggest that the reason for the white fur is actually a very important adaptation for the bear and is still very useful even in the array of
Bear hunting is an extremely dangerous activity for one to partake in. There are many precautions one must take in order to successfully kill a bear. Although bears are typically calm creatures they can become extremely aggressive and dangerous if threatened. Therefore, one must be aware of their surroundings at all times and ready for any encounter. Normally bears are baited using some kind of container cut open with fruit and other strong smelling foods to draw the bears in. Though dangerous bear hunting does also provide a considerable amount of food for a family. Those you hunt typically do so in order to obtain the meat from the animal. A typical black bear weighs about 240 pounds on average. Though not all of that weight is eatable much of it
The Grizzly bears population has grown from about 200 in 1975 to approximately 600-1200 in the 18 million acers of the Greater Yellowstone ecosystem. (Yellowstone)
Spirit bears people call them spirit bears although there real name is Kermode bear the Kermode bears lives Outside of Columbia only however one in a million black bears is white the rest are black only maybe 100 exist spirit bears are really interesting . Only about 20 percent of the bears on Orr and Princess islands are white the rest are black they have white creamy fur with brown eyes dark nose pads and nearly white claws .
In 2000 there was a black bear mom with 2 white bear cubs in Beause Manitoba. Also in 1997 a subadult white bear named Halo caused such a media stir that that the lesulater for Minnesota gave protection to all white bears. Unlucky for the lesulater because Halo is the only one since.
Black bears and Grizzly bears live in the Rocky Mountains, Alaska, and Canada. There are over 600,000 black bears in North America and thousands of Grizzly bears. The bears are out there. Anytime that you are spending time in bear country it is important that you know how to be safe and to keep your children safe.
The black bear, ursus americanus, roams in different places in America including Texas. Its North America the black bears habitat ranges from Mexico all the way to Canada. In the state of Texas, the black bear is under threatened status, it also has the same status under the United States (Texas Parks and Wildlife Department). According to the Texas Parks Wildlife Department (2016) in the state of Texas they are usually found in the Western area in the Trans Pecos ecoregion. The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (2016) has reported that there have been recent sightings of the Louisiana Black Bear in the Eastern part of Texas, where they used to have a strong population. This comes as surprising since the Louisiana Black Bear has an endangered status in the United States, as well as in the state of Texas. Even though the black bear species population in Texas is not as strong as it used to be in the past, many efforts are being done to recolonize the black bear in the South Western region of Texas by, studying their habitat as well as their eating habits, checking the DNA of the bears already in the area to see their genetic structures, regulating protection policies for black bears, and educating the people on the species.
It becomes competitive amongst them for food and being so close to neighborhoods and business it is convenient for them to use that as a resource. Hence the events in which bears come into backyards or parking lots .From garbage cans, pet food, barbeque grills and so on, bears become consistent in invading properties because they become have “food conditioned” (Fwc). More frequent invasions result into more conflicts, some resulting in the death of pets. Even more so the event of a bear coming into residential area can become even more lethal .Leah Reed who was walking her dog was attacked from behind from a Black bear; she suffered injuries to her neck, head, and arms. Luckily her dog was able to startle the bear and gave Leah time to escape; she ended up having to get twelve stitches for the gash on her head (ABC). Attacks like this could result in deaths if there is no way out and shouldn’t be happening in neighborhoods. The increase in attacks is why the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation decided to lift the ban on hunting bears.
Polar bears are one of the countless species who are endangered. They were one of the first animals affected by global warming and their population is heavily decreasing. Around 1980, the Arctic was as large as 8 million square kilometres. In 2011, studies show that the Arctic has reduced its size to 4.5 million square kilometers. In the future, will there be anything such as the Arctic? Scientist predict by 2040, only a fringe of ice will remain in Northeast Canada and Northern Greenland. This is known as the Last Ice Area. This matter is mostly taking part in Canada, since; Canada holds more than half the world’s polar bear population. Other affected countries include the U.S. (Alaska), Greenland,
The polar bear lives up in the Arctic region where global warming and climate change are melting the ice caps that the bears thrive on. They use the ice as a platform from hunting and rest. The random pocket holes in the ice, where the seals pop up at, is where the polar bear catches its prey. With this reduction of ice, “the abundance of seals, and increases the amount of energy and time needed for hunting, leaving less energy for reproduction” (Endangered Species and Habitats).
We have many interesting animals on Earth, all of which a decent research report could be written on, but I chose to do this on the brown bear. I chose this animal because it’s my favorite and I personally believe that bears are adorable animals, granted they could kill you if they feel the need to do so. I simply admire them from a distance, which is the reason I’m still around to write this essay. Without further ado, let’s get into the general knowledge, and facts having to do with what the brown bear prefers to eat and little cubs. As general knowledge, it should be addressed that the brown bear is called by different names depending on the region that they live in.
Bear is a true carnivore, but if not prevented the black bear could be a huge problem to humans.
