After reviewing several of the provided elementary level online courses there were likes, dislikes, strengths, weaknesses, and parts that would likely be emulated. The first website that was reviewed was Blended Schools. This website had many positive points and strengths. These strengths, included: having pre-assessments before beginning lessons, checking for understanding after parts of the lessons, and it was very easy to navigate. It is very important to have a pre-assessment before the lessons, this gives the students a starting point and a way to evaluate what they might already know. Another key point in the Blended Schools lessons were the check for understandings. This enabled students to review what they learned, and it assessed them on whether or not they were successful up until that point. Blended Schools was also very easy to navigate, this is a crucial point for parents and students, some parents may not have a lot of technology experience and this will …show more content…
This website also had many positive features. The biggest feature that I saw for elementary aged students is the several options for elementary courses. There were more elementary courses listed in this website than in the other websites that were reviewed. There were also daily reviews, before each lesson started. This would be very helpful for students, this would keep them engaged and on track. Another tool that would be very helpful was the audio tool, this enabled students to record their answers, when counting or reciting and they could hear what they said, and review it. This website was very beneficial because it provided so many options for elementary aged students, they could chose courses from physical education, to science and it provided them with a much wider range of knowledge. With the wide variety of activities, lessons and daily reviews, a student would receive a fantastic education from this online course
Online school replacing standard schooling brings up some additional risks that were not as prevalent before. The chance of students cheating will be at an all time high. Much of the testing will be considered open book, but how can the instructor confirm who is taking the test? How can the instructor confirm who is managing the work? What if one student is doing the work of five? What if the parent(s) are helping more than they should? How can the students verify the instructor is knowledgeable? Most students attend school because they want to better themselves. However; some students will capitalize on an environment that opens up more risks that are impossible to manage in this new environment.
If you have the drive to succeed, you can get just as much out of the online education as you can from a normal classroom.
I think Jan Brett’s website is very beneficial for students and even teachers. She gives a lot of free, creative activities to do. I believe children would love this site because there are so many options and different activities, a student would have to find something he or she would enjoy doing. The site teaches many skills through coloring to reading, games and videos. While watching her video, Jan seems very inspirational and wants children to follow their dreams.
A lot of students prefer the comfort of learning on their own, rather than with their peers, which is one of the biggest benefits of online education. Due to the fact that all teacher are not the same, different teaching methods and speeds, onlines classes gives the student the advantage to go at their own pace and time to digest the material. Chapters and assignments are emailed to the student, for which are given a guideline to be completed. Most will agree that having to not fight traffic and look for parking spots are two less stressors you don't have to deal while taking online courses. Online education has a plethora of subjects that students can enroll in to further their education that some colleges or universities might not
The internet and technology have been continually transforming the development of educators. In this age, the internet and technology are useful resources in the classroom. These resources allow for teachers to apply new ideas into the classroom, which allows for teachers to evaluate and analyze the impact of these resources. Like printed media and magazines, sources found on the internet have pros and cons. The effectiveness of the resources on the internet can vary depending on the needs of the user. It is important to look at a website in depth in order to judge the effectiveness of the website. Teachers, like students, need to learn and grow from their experiences, that is why it is important to check the effectiveness of a source before it is used in the class. Having access to so many websites
Online education in the twenty-first century is very prevalent. Not only can you receive a college degree online, but now there is the opportunity for children kindergarten through twelfth grade, to stay at home and complete courses online. One parent thought this would be the best decision for her
Both of these articles touched on good pros and cons about the use of technology in schools. In the first article about the blended classroom. I really enjoyed reading this article and how the teacher taught a class inside the classroom and also had students who took his class online. It allows the students to be more flexible with their learning. The teachers will also be able to give feedback through the online class immediately. I love how the students are able to leave around 4th period and they can choose to do the work when they got home or later in the night. A con I could see with this is if the student was actually doing their work or having somebody do the work for them. Another con that would come up with this blended learning class
First, online school offers education flexibility in that each child is able to learn at his or her own pace. It is easier to work on problems that cannot be resolved during the class at a later time in the day. Teachers are available to give educational assistance well after school hours. Teachers and students are able to interact not only during the designated times for online school, but also using email and online chat sessions. On the other hand, in a traditional
The website I have chosen for this assignment is called smart classroom management. The site was created by a man named Michael Linsin. Linsen is the founder of the website and has taught every grade level from kindergarten through high school for the past 25 years. Linsin created the website with the goal of helping teachers create a classroom that faithfully follows classroom management, while at the same time creating an environment that students enjoy and want to return to everyday. With, a firm emphasis on both strength and joy being the key to really strong classroom management. The act of shouting angry getting angry being major reactions that Linsen widely believes to be ineffective. Rather, then showing a negative reaction to bad behavior, the use of simple strategies and techniques he describes will help teachers get students to behave the way they wish. The key to doing so, is by reaching students intrinsic motivation. Linsen of the mindset that all students can be taught no matter how difficult they may be. They need guidance from a teacher from a teacher who is willing to demonstrate their professionalism as a teacher. Learning itself should be an
An important project that is currently a significant part of my life is the creation of an educational website that promotes learning around in school and the community by making resources that promote a high level learning experience and intellectual achievement. In my high school, we have a vigorous curriculum and a highly competitive atmosphere. With such expectations, many students find it critical to find a learning source they can trust and achieve high with. Many students also have trouble learning the content of different rigorous courses such as Advanced Placement courses but lack the capability to learn individually and need a reliable outside source. To fulfill this need, I decided to lead a project and create a website called Revolutionary Education (RevEd) that would help students of my school and a lot of schools around the country be able to actively challenge the difficult courses and learning material in America’s high school curriculum.
School counselors encounter students from vastly different and diverse backgrounds. School counseling websites aid students and their families from different backgrounds so they may know the services offered within their school. In “School Counseling Websites: Do They Have the Content That Serves Diverse Students” published in Professional School Counseling, Stephen Kennedy and Stanley Baker evaluate the websites and if the sites meet ASCA’s diversity ethical standards.
The purpose of this white paper is to present the need, benefits, and feasibility of Blended Classrooms in a mainstream high school to the school board at Anaheim Union High School District for implementation. The use of a blended classroom format is likely to result in higher achievement on high stakes test, give students the opportunity to learn in a technologically rich learning environment, and aid in improving the social climate for students by decreasing the chance and opportunity for bullying as well as improving the students use of time through their own design. In chapter three, a plan for the school district will be introduced to assist the district in the organization and implementation a blended classroom format
Online classes have turned out to be to a greater degree a pattern for different individuals. Adaptability and openness from anyplace makes online courses simpler for understudies
Students are not put forth the effort they would have in a traditional class. Due to pacing ways, how much effort you put into the course, and how the teachers are respected. Through online classes fail to succeed as well as traditional, they still share similar information, course credits, and teaching new technology to the youth. Our world is growing, striving, and conquering new things. We need to put more effort in managing these online classes so not only can the teachers actually enjoy it, but the students learn in a new, meaningful
Currently, in my community, if someone wants to hire high schoolers, they can add a job posting to a list on our school website. Students can look through this list and follow up on postings that interest them. However, the simple format of the jobs list makes it inefficient to use and deters both students and job listers. If students want jobs, they have to constantly be looking through the list to search for updates. Job listers, on the other hand, wait for offers to come in one at a time, and therefore have little ability to choose the best option. Furthermore, the list format discourages one time jobs, like raking the leaves, as well as odd jobs, like website design.
