Introduction
The internet and technology have been continually transforming the development of educators. In this age, the internet and technology are useful resources in the classroom. These resources allow for teachers to apply new ideas into the classroom, which allows for teachers to evaluate and analyze the impact of these resources. Like printed media and magazines, sources found on the internet have pros and cons. The effectiveness of the resources on the internet can vary depending on the needs of the user. It is important to look at a website in depth in order to judge the effectiveness of the website. Teachers, like students, need to learn and grow from their experiences, that is why it is important to check the effectiveness of a source before it is used in the class. Having access to so many websites

I decided to examine this website because the name of it popped out to me on the suggestions list. There are many reasons as to why I picked this website against others I have visited. These reasons include the structure, organization, and the quality of the website. Structure, organization and quality are also important aspects of the classroom, whether it is a physical classroom or a virtual classroom. Websites such as educationworld.com could potentially help my growth and expertise as a professional. After doing fieldwork in an elementary school, I think I would like to be an elementary school teacher. Education World provides professional development tips and lesson plans which other teachers post. Because other teachers post the lesson plans, it is important to analyze the lesson plans and make sure that it will benefit my future students. It is very important for me to see how effective and accurate Education World is so that I could use it as a reference as a teacher. I do not want to subject my students to any false information that people are often confused
As a whole, the Internet is a vast learning center if used correctly. It is more appealing to the eye, and is much more efficent to access information. As Tim Wilson, a technology-intergration specialist states, "...how do we communicate with students today who have grown up with technology..." (Source B). Teachers have lost hope with students over
In a review of the literature, recurrent ideas appeared in the research articles reviewed. These ideas include technology as part of education has a conclusive and encouraging impact on students, students demonstrated a greater level of learning and expanded productivity with the use of technology. Both educationalists and students felt technology added significance to their learning experiences. The addition of online education was cost effective as well as advantageous to the learning process. Technology caused teachers to be better teachers. Because of the wealth of information previously only available to students at a prestigious university, teachers are required to keep their assignments relative and backed by this knowledge. Students can out research the teacher on many occasions and
However, several students are not utilizing technology to the full beneficial extent that they could. Instead they are clicking on whatever appears on the first couple of suggestions Google has presented without checking the credibility. Unfortunately, websites like Wikipedia.org or certain news pages like catholic.org are not presenting correct information or they are excluding facts and molding the story a little more different. The Internet could not be filtered and students have to enter a world of “lies, garbage, and pornography” (Source E). However, sometimes students are not able to differentiate and end up believing the “alternative facts” that then harm their learning. As, schools block songs and math tutorials ironically on Youtube; students find the new loops right away. Therefore, so not only should teachers teach the curriculum but what websites and what sources are the most unbiased and accurate. Taking into consideration that there are literally one billion websites, it’s vital to teach students what information would be appropriate in their work before they state a fact that is not
In the article “Technology Changing how students learn, Teachers Say” many different surveys and experiments were constructed to see what the response were toward technology changing the way we think. As stated “roughly 75 percent of 2,462 teachers surveyed said that the Internet and search engines had a “mostly positive” impact on student research skills” (Richtel). This means that majority of the teacher do agree that the internet is making a positive effect on the children. Using technology in the educational field is a different approach on how the student my able to learn or grasp the whole content of that topic or subject. The internet doesn’t only help out with the student learning but it is already help the teacher. Through the internet they can exam the progress of class by averaging out the online homework or test that may be given out to the class.
Cathedral High School is a prestigious and catholic school at El Paso available strictly for men and 9th graders to 12th graders trying to accomplish excellence in their students, preparing them for their college studies. The school's mission referred in their website is "Cathedral High School teach students lead through holistic and competitive environments, and also cultivate our school's intellectual, athletic and spiritual gifts in them." The mission is accompanied by a beautiful quote from the bible. This essay will review Cathedral's website aspects regarding intended audience, understandable report of their core message, structure, and if its organization is convenient enough to surf on it.
The World Wide Web had revitalized education by making it easier, and more efficient to teach. Before the creation of the Internet, the most popular and widely used way of teaching was mainly with books and lectures, limiting the speed and efficiency of information to learn, while also limiting the number of units given in a school year. With the Internet, teachers were able to discover and teach topics easily, leading to quicker lessons and topics as they use the web browser and online sources to benefit the speed of the lessons as well as better the students in different ways to educate. In addition to teachers using the Internet, students also greatly used it to help with homework, to fully understand a topic, to help with projects, and to communicate with their teachers. In a study from Pew Internet & American Life Project over students and their interaction with the
backing: In the study conducted and in general, with the growing age of technology, a vast majority of teachers support the use of the internet for educational purposes. It does not have to pertain to education per se, it can also be resourceful in the sense of just finding information.
In developing this research, I plan to determine whether Old Dominion University (ODU) graduate web site, found at https://www.odu.edu/graduateschool, meets student needs and, if not, what design elements would better meet these needs. I hypothesize that these needs are not currently being met, as I often struggle to navigate the site as a graduate student myself. I constantly hear and share complaints about said web site with fellow graduate students. These complaints, which are often focused around a need for important deadlines and other timely information, do not seem to be represented in the current web site.
While there might be more downsides to the internet there are some people that want to believe that it is very beneficial to society. She explains how the intern et has given schools the ability to broaden their curriculum to a wider spectrum. Teachers in classrooms K-12 use the internet as a research or reference tool for their assignments and other coursework. She done a study that has shown that internet use can increase success in the classroom. Online classes and internet use in the classroom has been proven to broaden students’ ability to be more social and technically incline. Her studies have also shown that it gets the students more interested in school work by making it more fun for them. “Students who have more self-confidence with the internet have better success in online classes and have higher grades than others who feel uncomfortable with the internet” (119). While the internet isn’t always good it has helped kids think more outside the box (Ronsisvalle and Watkins
The internet needs to be embraced as an integral part of education and in turn schools should promote the responsible and effective use of the web. Teachers need to understand the importance of the internet and technology in the modern world and should take it upon themselves improve their “techno-literacy” when it is lacking. Without adapting to the modern world, they hamper their ability to teach their students. Students should be taught the critical thinking skills needed to effectively browse the internet; they need to be taught how to effectively judge whether or not an article or website is credible and worth their time. Access to the internet can be a significant part of any classroom and will allow students to further their understanding of the material. Being able to find extra examples for a concept that they do not understand in calculus or trying to find some constant they forgot in physics, all in seconds, can be invaluable to any student. It can be just as invaluable to teachers for whom the internet could be something of an additional tutor in the room for students to ask questions, which would ease the burden on a teacher’s shoulders. However, it will also fall upon teachers and students to ensure the responsible use of the internet and prevent any misuse and exploitation of such a powerful tool. Though it is possible to concentrate while working on the internet, it is also possible to fall prey to the myriad of distractions that present themselves on the internet. Things like YouTube and social networking websites are all parts of the reason that the internet is so wonderful, yet at the wrong time they can serve as pitfalls to a studious student. Thus it is up to individual students to make the ever difficult decision to postpone pleasure for work and it is up to teachers to ensure that this is done in the classroom. If used
Receiving an education via an online course is one that has begun with many challenges. I have come from having no knowledge of researching information to feel like I have journeyed a long way finding the confidence to research pertinent and quality resources. Through this particular unit I have been given the implements to develop a sound knowledge of online group collaborations and the programs to allow the communication to take place.
The website I chose to analyze is the Smithsonian’s History Explorer. I have always been interested in history and the lessons from the past that still affect us in the present (and will affect us in the future). After clicking through the website, I saw an array of interesting topics that can certainly help the educator and shape the classroom. I wanted to see if the website itself was user-friendly for I find that it’s easy to lose interest if the site you’re on has distracting pop-ups or have links that do not work. The field of education must also keep up with the advancements of technology, as it can be a great program that can make teaching effective and efficient. More importantly, I wanted to analyze how the resources
Technology can help students in all areas of study. Students need to be able to use this technology since, “Currently and in the near future, it is understood that students need to acquire more autonomous skills of ‘information gathering, analysis, and display’” (Todnem, 2004, p. 1). Furthermore, the use of technology, mainly the internet, provides for variation since “Students find themselves bored and burnt-out of the lecture format to classes, so changing the curriculum and instruction to include things like online assignments and educational videogames can be one clear remedy” (Todnem, 2004, p. 1). Teachers who have implemented technology into their classrooms have noticed changes in their students. The most common of these effects being an increase in motivation. In “Effects of Technology on Classrooms and Students” another positive effect is given “technology effect stressed by many teachers was enhancement of student self esteem” (“Effects,” 2004, p. 2).
Education is one of the most important professions in the working world. Technology has done many things for us in today’s society especially for education and schools. Technology in the school system has impacted the students and teachers in many positive ways, including virtual field trips, testing tips, teacher resources, class web sites, and lesson plans. With computer use in our schools, we have access to many different sources and various types of learning.
Across the U.S., technology used in education has been increasing exponentially. Every learning institution ranging from elementary school to college have incorporated technology into their teachings. Online textbooks, quizzes, notes, and classes are all examples of how education has been utilizing technology. While technology has a place in education, not everything in education needs to involve technology.
