In today’s job market, I have realized that a good education can help contribute to a better performance from any employee. Personally, I have three jobs and each one of them, I can see where my education has made me better at my jobs. My main job is working at Keystone Bakery. Here I can relate what I’ve learned from my math classes into counting money and giving change back to the customers. My second job is helping teach dance classes at The Dance Loft. I may not take any dance classes at my school but I have had to write an essay on someone who has impacted my life and I chose Bob Fosse. This is when I was able to learn about my favorite dancer. I now can relate how Bob Fosse taught and his style of dance and use this information to help
The purpose of education is to prepare students for their futures with both knowledge as well as fundamental life skills. I believe students are highly capable beings who have a desire to be productively challenged. To empower students to meet and exceed high expectations set forth by the state, school, or teacher, it is imperative that educators “teach for enduring understanding through partnerships and by drawing on brain-based education, students ' multiple intelligences, and culturally appropriate curriculum innovations” (Laster and Johnson). Beyond guaranteeing students can read, write, and perform basic math functions, we should be producing graduates who are responsible individuals positively contributing to society, reliable workers, and devoted family members. Whether students receive a scholarship to attend college or go to work immediately following graduation, we must train them to conduct themselves with integrity, have an admirable work ethic, and solve challenging problems they may face throughout their lives.
My mother worked four jobs at once to make financial ends meet, while always stressing the importance of education and financial independence to my brother and myself. My grandmother only achieved a second grade education due to the financial constraints on her family at a young age, but still in the end managed to make certain that of her children and grandchildren had what was needed to flourish and become successful, educated members of the community. The tenacity and history of these two women I still carry with me today. Their struggles have inspired to me to only want more from life, but also serve as a positive role model for the younger members of my community. I observed from other family members how an education can open a multitude of doors and opportunities. I want to make the biggest and most significant on my community and on my family as possible, and the only foreseeable path is to achieve a college education to gain the necessary skills, knowledge and connections needed to flourish and implement positive
While reading “Becoming a Learner” by Matthew L. Sanders, I found many interesting points on college education that I have never really focused on. One of my favorite statements that Sanders makes is that “who you are still matters more than what you can do because it speaks to your long term potential for success.” I thought this was very interesting and inspiring because it is encouraging the reader to focus on developing themselves rather than some impractical skills. I also thought it was really cool when Sanders made the point that “it’s not only what you do that counts; it’s also how you do it.” I thought that this quote is relatable on so many different levels, especially in the aspect of college. Sometimes you can take the easy way
Education is a wonderful asset to anyone. With a good one the sky is the limit, and without one opportunity may never come knocking. In today’s society, so much emphasis is put on education. How many times have we heard the saying “if you get a good education, you’ll get a good job and make a lot of money”? Even today, my parents remind me of how much a college degree would add to my marketability. But when does it become too much? Is it possible that one could overlook the more important values in life in search to become a “learned man”? In Richard Rodriguez’s story Challenging The Traditional Classroom he examines his life as a student, and the affects his learning has towards his attitude about family and heritage.
Education has been one of the ways I have been able to add competititive advantage in my personal life. Although there are other components critical to my personal success. These include: determination, willingness to learn, and dedication. Having a great job that reaps monetary rewards is great, however, there are other factors necessary to be successful. These include my value as a human being, what do I do for others, how I am with my family, who I am as a fiancé and
In the 2005 article " Some Lessons From The Assembly Line" by author Andrew Braaksma. Mr. Braaksma tells the life lessons he has gained from working in a factory and going to college, the difference between the two, and the impact his co-workers had on him. This helps the author to realize the importance of a college education. I feel Mr. Braaksma notices that some students these days do not take school seriously and hopes he could change that by telling his story. Mr. Braaksma goal is to convey the importance of getting an education.

In my 2nd semester of my junior year I grew as an academic in college and career readiness. In my U.S. History class, taught by Mr.Jarashow we learned about civil rights and how they were being taken away from different groups of people in the mid 1900’s. We were then assigned to write a thesis paper on a progressive activist leader of our choice. While writing the thesis paper I gained a lot of new skills. This thesis paper helped me attain college level skills; those skills are being able to research, analyze, and properly use citations. Those skills can help me in college because there will be lots of thesis paper assignments given to us in our classes. The person I chose to write my paper about was Malcolm X. Malcolm X was a progressive activist leader who made a
Education has always been an important piece in my family’s legacy. My grandmother was one of the first African American women to have a school named after her, and the majority of my uncles, aunts, and cousins all work within the education field. Naturally, I decided to write about two influential educators that have greatly impacted my life.
Education creates a gateway towards a prosperous life to those who take advantage of it. On the other hand, my mother’s parents did not encourage higher education. My mother stated, “In the 1950’s and 60’s, women were not expected to attend college”. Although this was a strong value for society at that time, my mother encouraged education on her children. Throughout my education, I had so many challenges I had to overcome. Dealing with school, personal life, and sports. Dealing with all of these problems has shaped me up as a person.
