Bob In 'Me, The Missing, And The Dead'

A minor character by the name of Bob turned out to have major importance by the end of the novel, “Me, the missing, and the Dead”. In the beginning the main character, Lucas, made him seem like he was just a waste of time and had no reason to be in his life. By the end of the story however, Bob came to great importance by helping Lucas to solve the mystery that had been haunting him since age fourteen. Lucas’s father, Pete, had gone missing since he was fourteen years old. It had destroyed his entire family including his mother, sister, brother, and grandparents. Bob was Petes best friend and was always around trying to be there for Lucas’s mother after Pete was no longer there. Lucas didn't like the fact that he was always around seeming to try and take the place of a father figure. Bob wanted to help them, but they decided it was a job that shouldn't involve him. Lucas was passing boxes to his mother from the attic when he came across an old tape that read, “Violet park”. He planned to watch it as soon as he got back from the dump. He ended up getting into a argument with his mother at the dump and for whatever reason, decided to go to Bobs house. Bob was furious with lucas for upsetting his mother, but Lucas didn't care, because Bob wasn't his father so he left. While walking down the driveway bob was watching him so he took the urn out of his backpack and waved it in the air for Bob to see. Lucas immediately regretted it after seeing the reaction on Bob's face. Bob looked horrified, like he was about to bust into tears. Lucas rushed home feeling the need to watch the old tape. It ended up being his dad interviewing Violet. He watched and nothing they talked about seemed to be important until the end when Violet said, “Pete, I am asking you to help me
