Do you think that the child you observed is falling in the correct stage based on Brown’s 5 stages of development?

The child whom was observed MLU is 6.5 which is within Brown’s 5 stage of development. It would seem the student has the ability to speak with great length but looking closely at the child grammatical morphemes it is clearly the child is not within Brown’s 5 stage of development. According to Brown’s 5 stage, a child should be able to master grammatical morphemes by the age of 50 months. The student that was observed is 51 months of age, But continue to use grammatical morphemes within the range of Brown’s stage 3.

For instances, the child uses ‘you, he and that’ while speaking, this is within Brown’s stage 3 and they also uses ‘his, her, and them’ which is within Brown’s stage 4. At the age and MLU the child is in, it will seem they will be able to use ‘him, their, theirs’ instead of the words within a lower stage. Therefore, the child is not falling in the correct stages of Brown’s 5 stages of development. But the child is able and capable of learning how to enhance their grammatical morphemes before they enter school.

The student is also within the range of having typical language development for the student speaks clearly and is fluent, along with having a long and strong sentence when discussing information. Therefore, the student within their stage of language development is capable of learning receptive and expressive strategies to gear towards of being a non-atypical child. For there many different strategies to help build a student’s ability to transfer from an atypical language student to a typical language
