Sticks and Stone Will Break You, But Words Will Not Hurt You?

Some people would tell you yes. Bullying can involve direct physical and verbal abuse, it can involve more subtle forms of indirect aggression, such as spreading rumors. I was bullied all through elementary School, Jr. High, and even High School. It made me the man that I am now. Sticks, stones, and words really did hurt me back then. I can remember in elementary school I was always bullied by a group of kids when I got off school. Every day they would wait for me and chase me all the way home from school. I had a taste of it my freshman year in high school. I failed my freshman year of high school and I was told that I wasn’t going to graduate high school. Honestly, I did not care if I graduated from school at that time. My self-esteem was at a low time. I was sent to a continuation school because I flunked my freshman year of high school. I was introduced to a group of teachers that forever changed my life. I was their just pass the time and they had plans for me. They did not play games and they forced me to do my school work. They did not let me quit. The positively reinforced me and told me that I had potential. My teachers continued to reinforce me and told me that I needed to stop feeling sorry for myself. I wanted people to feel sorry for me and give me a break on my school work. That did not fly with them. They gave me school work and I did not go home until it was completed. I tested that one day by not doing my school work and I did not go home until 7 pm that evening. After that one day I started doing my school work just so I can go home by 3 pm. Those teachers believed in me where no one else did. They pushed me to the breaking point, and I did not break. I did two hard years in continuation school and made up my freshman year. As a reward I was sent back to high school for my senior year and played football, baseball, and soccer. They taught me that anything is possible and that don’t let other people …show more content…

Bullying can come from emails, cell phones, text messages, and social media sites that can be used to threaten, harass, embarrass, socially exclude, or damage reputations or friendships. I don’t have a personal Facebook, but I do have a business Facebook account. Sometime you have these people that thrive and live by being a troll on social media. They always have something negative to say and criticize everything you say or post. I don’t play games with these individual and give them the time. I just block them and enjoy the rest of my happy day with my friends and family. My seventeen year old daughter in the other hand has been cyberbullied constantly. She has deleted her social media account and lost friend because of it. Today’s teenagers and bullied more in the social media than physically. Today’s kids and are more sociable on line and really on social media to communicate. I keep telling my daughter that don’t let those girls bother you and don’t pay attention what they are posting online. It’s easy for me to say that. If you put something online and it can be seen by thousands. This has more severe effect emotionally and physiologically on a teenager. Where there reputations is everything. Even though someone might post something negative online about you, and some people might perceive it as the truth. You cannot win with social media.
