Hello! This is Alanna Jones. I was a part of the Europe and the Islamic World trip (to refresh your memory). I writing to you today to ask if you would be willing to be my advisor for a CLAS honors project. The study abroad trip left a lasting impression on me. I am hoping to expand on ideas that I had learned while abroad for my project, with an emphasis on orientalism and heritage commodification. This is a theme that I focused on within my final paper, that I’d love to explore further. I recently went to see my advisor, as I’m preparing to graduate this fall. She told me that I was eligible to work on a Summa Cum Laude project. However, I would need an advisor for this project before the semester begins. It would truly mean a lot to

As poverty, terrorism, hunger, and economic crises escalate, I believe it is essential for me as a student to possess a deep human desire to contribute to my school, community, and ultimately, the world. Because of my profound attributes, I am able to promote leadership, develop character, and create enthusiasm for academic excellence. According the American Civil Liberties Union, a staggering 95% of rapes on college campuses go unreported. The reason we see such low report rates is reflective upon the extreme need for on campus prevention and support systems. Since the Obama administration has come into office, President Obama and Vice President Biden have enacted a program known as the Not Alone Project. This program attempts to break the silence about sexual violence on college campuses and reach out to provide victims with the support they need by reaching out to other victims and giving them the support and avenues they need to seek justice, a sense of safe and well-being after going through the horrors of a sexual assault. This program also aims to spread awareness

The Macro Field Project that I will be implementing is the Strengthening Families Program at the Department of Social Services. The purpose of this project is to address the issues related to high risk families. The program will provide instruction on parenting skills, communication, and tools to decrease their risk of out of home placement of the child while improving their quality of family unity (“Strengthening Families Program”, n.d.). The goals of the program are to decrease child misconduct in the home and school, delinquency, substance abuse in children and to improve social competencies (“Strengthening Families Program”, n.d.). As an SLPA, my role would be to help Chuck perform the tasks prescribed by the supervising SLP and actively participate with the SLP, during the therapy session. In this therapy session I would be helping participate in the role playing activities and playing the object game. Also, as an SLPA I would document the patient’s performance by tallying data for the SLP to use, prepare charts, records, or graphs and then report it to the supervising SLP. If Chuck’s family needs more supportive services then as an SLPA I could help find them resources in the local community to help them.
For my OLA project I traveled to Salem, Oregon where our state capitol is located. I did a tour of the building and the outside gardens, which starts on the first floor also known as the capitol rotunda where historic artwork covers the walls and the oregon seal is in the middle of the marble floor which is gated off. From there I went to the area above the senate and house called the public galleries which oversees the the senate and house floor. After that I traveled to the governor’s ceremonial office and saw where the governor signs all the important bills and does the pictures that you see in the newspaper. That is where the tour ends and from there I went back to the capitol rotunda and through the spinning doors to outside the building and looked at all the marble statues outside. I did not decided to do the tower tour because I did not feel like walking up a whole bunch of stairs.
During my Peace Corps service I volunteered at a lower secondary school where I attempted to implement a project to build a sports court and incorporate a sports education curriculum. The school director was not in favor of this project because he wanted new bathrooms and hand washing stations. From my perspective I viewed the schools as having plenty of both of these but the director was adamant about additional bathrooms. Later I discovered that the director was in the process of converting the lower secondary school into an upper and lower school that would educate grades 7-12 rather than just 7-9. This would prevent students from commuting long distances to attend upper secondary school.
