This week while at my internship at Frontenac High I attended the calculus class. Mr. Buzard had to leave halfway through class to attend interviews for the counselor position that is available. There was a new substitute who I had not yet met that covered his class. Mr. Buzard was able to teach the lesson for the day before he had to leave. The lesson was over the derivatives of exponential functions. The students seemed to think this was easier than what they did last week. The students were excited and talkative today since there prom is on Saturday. I talked to them about it while they worked on their assignment. While the students worked on the assignment I visited with the substitute teacher. She was talkative and friendly. She told
After a short morning meeting with the substitute we took the children to gym class. I watched gym for a few minutes before heading back to Ms. Keane’s room. Ms. Keane was back and talking to the Penn State student (special education major) that is in my classroom Monday-Thursday. Ms. Keane also said that she had a student teacher on Fridays. Ms. Keane seems
Thank you for being my substitute today. Make sure that students are sitting in their assigned seats and take attendance for every period and turn it into the office. If you have any problems do not hesitate to call the front office at *500 and have the student removed. Let me know what happened so I can take care of it on Friday when I return.
Week two of field observation at Crestone Charter School. My Second week of field observations was really fun and interactive. I had the opportunity to work with several students from the k-1 class with special needs. We traveled to several reading stations and did a read along with the fourth and fifth-grade students. At arrival, I met with the main Para, Ammie Morphet and was informed that Lexi whom is one of the charter schools highest priority/needs students was the student I would be working with. Lexi usually has a personal in class Para that works with her throughout the day, but she was out sick. Since I know Lexi and have personal experience working with her we came to the conclusion that it would be best if I assisted with Lexis daily routine and any other classroom needs. This allowed Mrs. Morphet to attend to the other students she had previously scheduled for us to meet with.
My new assignment moved me to be with the fifth graders in Ms. Bolds’ room. I had heard of each of these students but hadn’t met them. It took some adjusting, and more adjusting, but I got to know each of these new fifth graders. We also invited some “pull out” students to our room every day for some extra help with Math and Writing. This made our room crazy at times. One of the things I love about this job is that I never have the same day twice.
This week I went to Seabourn elementary with Mrs.Kirkland class for 3 hours and 45, and I talked to her on if she could choose another mentor RST intern what would she like to change she said if anything if there were more specific on what she should be doing. Also, she said if they could check with her first because for when her students came in plus the RST students it would be in between her planning period and her lunch period. Mrs.Kirkland finished up by saying she would like more emails or notices for the teacher so she could know and be able to help out with the RST
In The New Yorker article College Calculus by John Cassidy, a lot of new information about college degrees and where we might be headed with college degrees was argued for. One point brought up, was that a lot of people are getting vocational degrees in order to appear much more valuable compared to other applicants in a job. I have often heard that the best type of degrees to get were those having to do with Doctoring, Lawyering, and other science fields. However when the article pointed out that businesses are hiring many people with vocational degrees, because businesses tend to want people to be able to communicate with their costumers, and with other people, I thought of the possibility of taking a class in speaking in college in order
My first practicum placement for this semester, I was placed at Henry F. Moss Middle School. When I found out that I had to observe and teach a lesson to middle schoolers, I was not thrilled. I have never had any interest in teaching middle school so I was dreading the next one-hundred and forty observation hours. Despite my initial thoughts, I enjoyed my time at Moss Middle. The teacher that I was placed with was Mrs. Durbin. She was very open to having me in her class and was never opposed to me jumping in to help her teach or assist students in the classroom. She is an LBD teacher and teaches in a math resource classroom. Throughout my time with Mrs. Durbin, I was able to experience what it is like to teach in a resource room and I also
Today, was a crazy and long day. This week I am only teaching Math, Daily 5, and Social Studies. During Daily 5 today Mrs. Haberman the principal came into observe me. I went through the interactive lesson before class, but I should have looked over the directions a little bit better. I tried to put the incorrect word into the box, and Mrs. Vavra told me that I needed to make sure I knew what it was asking me to do. I can’t believe I let this happen especially since Mrs. Haberman was in there. I was nervous about her coming in already and now I am nervous to see what she has to say about the lesson. It was not my best lesson by far and of course it had to be the one that Mrs. Haberman was observing. I personally I think the problem was that
Adrienne Rich 's essay constitutes a powerful challenge to some of our least examined sexual assumptions. Rich turns all the familiar arguments on their heads: If the first erotic bond is to the mother, she asks, could not the "natural" sexual orientation of both men and women be toward women?
Would have liked to be able to see my student’s advisor when she was scheduling classes.
By this point I had loved this teacher, not for letting me take my exam at home, but by teaching me a true lesson of life. I couldn't thank her enough. The second half of the school year was the same.
College is expensive. I think it is important to look at the various options that are available to high school graduates before immediately deciding to attend a college or university. For some students, it may be more economically advantageous to attend a junior college or a trade school. However, for the students who aspire to do something that involves a graduate degree, undergraduate work is a necessity. Personally, I know that attending college is something I want to do, and I am excited to have that opportunity. While I know I will not qualify for any federal financial aid, I know that I am talented and well-rounded enough to be awarded a variety of scholarships. My goal, though a little far-fetched,
Homework was a major component for Ashley’s and I work together. The point of homework, is to helps us synthesize all the information we learned and try to apply it to real life situations (Beck.J, 1995, p. 40). The homework will include a description of the skills Ashley learned through the week, as well as practicing this skill. By giving Ashley homework it will help her gain access to these skill within triggering situations. With homework we established that the goals were; to attempt applying the skills at all times, self-monitor, and record thoughts feelings and behaviors.
On one hand, one of the elements that make my HRMGT150 and Calculus 101 a positive experience is that I am internally motivated to learn. My goal for my class HRMGT 150 is, learning for my professional growth. In this class, I have been learning about hotel management, due to the fact that I want to work in this field. Moreover, Professor Mr. Kevin Anthony is a very experienced teacher, who utilizes multiple learning modalities to deliver his lectures. His Power Point Presentations and videos are concise and related to the topic. On the other hand, my calculus class goal is to learn as much as I can and master its skills, because I desire to be able to help mu daughters with their math classes. Here the intent to remember as well as motivation are two of Dr. Myron Dembo’s principles, which are guiding me through the semester. Moreover, some of the calculus material, which I learned in college few years ago, but my memory was fuzzy, due to the fact that I
The two assignments I have chose for my elective classes are about vocabulary recognition from Spanish and a painting from the Interpersonal Communication class. It really helped a lot to have those classes.
