This rotation, I participated in a Peace Committee Simulation, reenacting the Camp Grant situation in 1871. This was a four day simulation. The first day was a planning day, in groups, where we worked on our position papers and learned the views of the nation we were representing. (For this specific problem) I represented the USA with Megan and Julia. We had to represent both how the settlers and the US government felt about the situation at Camp Grant. However, during the planning day, we came up with a long term solution for the Apache and O’odham who were living in Camp Grant. We intended to buy the Baja Peninsula from Mexico, and give it to the Native tribes, and let them live there however they wished. However, as the only views we saw, as the US were our own, and we were not aware that Mexico could not afford to give us land, and the Apache wanted to stay in southern Arizona with their primary food …show more content…
Day one (Thursday) was only half of the class, so it was perfect for letting us get used to using the speakers list and learning how to work and have a conversation in a mock peace committee, which was what we did. Day two (Friday) was the most productive day of the simulation, as we were steadily improving at participating in the simulation environment, and used our time more productively. During day two, our (US) long term solution was shut down, but the dire need for a solution grew with “mail” that was sent to the countries during break and caucuses. So, the class made up a short term solution. Our short term solution was to create a DMZ between all groups, to limit contact between groups, and any communication work be done through a peace committee who met at a remote location. All the groups were to shrink back into previously owned territory, and solve their internal problems before dealing with the other groups. During this time, the media was to humanize groups, and release this
According to Charles Sumner, from “Objections to the Mexican-American War”, he states, “Our (American) Newspapers excited the lust of territorial robbery in the public mind.” This quote shows that even a state legislator from Massachusetts admits that the United States stole land from Mexico. In another quote from Charles Sumner’s “Objections to the Mexican-American War”, he states “Certainly Mexico might justly charge our citizens with disgraceful robbery.” This evidence shows that the United States already stole land from Mexico and that it was unjust to go to war with

I totally agree with you Jacob that we could have handled the situation a lot better than what we did. However, the land was theirs at first the right thing to do is to allow them to keep their land and make fair trades with them for their land instead. Only then if the Indians do not come to an agreement about the land. We should federal troops step in and attempt to persuade them into trading the land for basic life
Civica will first create the model for future conditions based on the calibrated model. This will involve adding proposed ponds and changing parameter values to reflect the future developments (e.g. imperviousness and curve number).
Yesterday was Wednesday, January 25, 2017. When we strolled into class after a relaxing lunch period, we picked up several papers from the front bookshelf. To commence class we started off with a short quiz on the syllabus. This served as our warm up for the day. Following the quiz Chris read his through daily log, which brought back memories of the first day in our new classes. I volunteered to write the next daily log.
Which it was the arrangement between Mexico and Spain stating that Mexico will become an independent constitutional monarchy, and the catholic religion will maintain. Americans first began to arrive friendly to California, Arizona, Nevada, Kansas, and many other states, they adopted the lifestyle and lived peacefully and friendly with the Native Americans. Unfortunately, in 1845 president Polk came to office and everything changed. Polk was an expansionist, the amount of Americans coming to Mexico was increasing. This created the perfect excuse for Polk to come up with a plan. The United States declared war on Mexico. Mexico with no strong army and poor economic condition decided to accede and sell all the states to Polk. “The General Allotment Act was passed with the idea of Indians gaining back liberty, property, and power. In reality, the Allotment act forced them to live as whites and took ⅔ of land” (Covarrubias). This is in a way similar to the policies and treatments Spanish had toward Natives. Both Had a leader that arrived with a purpose but pretend to be people that will allow them to grow and have a better life when in reality they arrived to take all the peace and happiness of the Indians. On the other side, Spanish arrived with the idea of destroying everything and impose their own beliefs and lifestyles, and attack Indians right away with no compassion, compare to Americans many adapted and still
This simulation of countries in 1914 was a very effective way of learning the struggles and obstacles that had to be overcome during a conflict. One of these main struggles was communication, the only way to communicate during this time was by letter. During our class sending letter proved itself to be very difficult, as soon as we would receive a letter and respond we would receive another letter changing they way we thought about out last letter. Some letters were intercepted and the wrong countries would receive our letter and key information would have been given away. It is also very easy to imposter another country in a letter, during our class we could se and know who was a part of a country and guess what there handwriting looks like.
Furthermore the objectives this week for Social Studies includes learning about being a good citizen and community. This week in particular is very important and special, because it is only a four day week in lieu of the usual five day week. Furthermore, until now I did not quite realize the impact this type of schedule has on educators and students. The students have to get back into the routine of school and educators must accomplish and teach all of the objectives for the week. In addition, the week was filled with several meetings, which I had the privelage to attend. During this week I was able to attend a parent conference meeting and a beginning of the school year healthcare meeting. This week was busy even though it was not the typical five day school week. I continue to learn and grow from my experience. Next, I will continue my third week of the gradual release experience and I will be in charge of the subject area of grammer next week on the week of Sept.
BIC is a product that has been extremely successful, offering items such as a low-cost disposable razor, and pens that add value to the user at an affordable price. BIC uses a strategy similar to the Niche Cost Leader Strategy. The Niche Cost Leader Strategy puts the main focus on positioning a product at an affordable price while still presenting value to its customers. My reasoning for using this strategy is that my products will be extremely useful and beneficial to its consumers; products like BIC and McDonalds are in extreme demand with the situation of today’s economy. To maintain this strategy, I will keep the costs that go into the
My favorite quote is from Rick and Morty “Do you really think the world is real? You'd have to be an idiot not to notice all the sloppy details.” - Rick When I first heard it, it really made me stop and think about everything in the world and question if its really true or not.
The second simulation workshop made me feel nervous and enthusiastic at the same time. I felt nervous in regards to participating and enthusiastic, because I knew the simulation was going to be a effective learning experience. The workshop commenced with an overview briefing similar to last week. The briefing involved an introduction and revision of the developing scenario, introducing additional characters and discussing the content which was ‘Top Down Bottom Up’. Following on, I observed the first simulation, and then played the role of Jane, the community youth worker in the second simulation. However, before the simulation began, a calming/meditation activity took place which I found to be worthwhile.
The processes can be as local as local neighborhoods working together on some common issues such as community safety or what to do about drugs in the locality or even on issues such as local areas for children to play together. When people decide it is possible to work together Locally in base that way would not have in the past then reconciliation process are under way.in interface localities the working Together faces the challenges of reaching out across old divides and Transforming The space that was once a place for violent encounter to become spaces of creative engagement and growing interest in and understanding of each other. Reconciliation does not happen quickly and it does not always happen easily and it certainly is not a linear process with only goal in view. In all of it is important to note that Lederach argues ,and he has been involved in more peacebuilding and reconciliation processes then more, that resolving or finding a way out of the conflict can take as long as
