Abstract
Emergency medical technicians are licensed and/or certified health-care providers that are out-of-hospital. They immediately respond to the scene of an emergency, assess the safety hazards of the scene, and transport patients to institutions. (Beck, 2013) An emergency medical technician-paramedic takes on the additional tasks of giving medication and using various complex equipment. The competence and hasty reactions of EMTs can save the lives of patients and get them to the emergency room physician. Although education differs state to state, every emergency medical technician-paramedic must receive a high school diploma or GED and become certified for cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). (“Emts and paramedics,” 2014) They must also
Paramedics are emergency medical technicians more commonly known as EMT’s. EMT’s provide emergency treatment for the ill or injured on a scene and during en route to a medical facility. EMT’s are called upon at all hours of the day or night; typically the first medical specialist that a patient will call upon in an emergency. Paramedics are trained to provide lifesaving pre-hospital care in emergency situations. The range of medical services varies according to the level of training and/or certification.
An EMT must be able to multi task under pressure, develop good communication skills, and work as a team member to help the patient in need. A year ago, when I played basketball and volleyball for my school, I had to learn how to listen to my other teammates and the people in the bleachers cheering while still focusing on the task at hand. There were times when I had to block the ball from a really good hitter during volleyball and people depended on me to keep the ball on their side. There is also the pressure to make the last point in the game to win. These experiences are similar to those of an EMT because both must think fast in order to get the job done.
Before doing research, I was unaware that there are a few types of EMTs. I thought that there were only EMTs and Paramedics. The names can differ by state, but the three types of EMTs are an EMT-Basic or an EMT, an EMT-Intermediate or Advanced EMT, and a Paramedic. All three levels are trained to handle respiratory, cardiac, and trauma emergencies. An EMT-Basic is the simplest of the three. The skills of an EMT-Basic include evaluating the patient’s condition and caring for the patient while on the scene of an emergency and while transporting them to a hospital. An EMT-Intermediate has all of the training of an EMT-Basic, with the addition of higher skills, like giving the patient some medicines or using IVs. Paramedics are able to offer more advanced treatment than both lower EMT levels. They have the qualifications to give the patient IV’s, medicines, and use complex machines to monitor the patient (Summary).
People’s lives depend on their quick reactions and competent care. EMTs and paramedics respond to emergency calls, performing medical services and transporting patients to medical facilities. Most EMTs and paramedics work full time and experience a much larger than average numbers of work-related injuries or illnesses.
I need to have and EMT certification, state certification and I need and paramedic certification these are all the certifications I need to become a
Heart and lung bypass, CPB ( cardiopulmonary bypass ) , used in cardiac surgery where cardioplegia required to perform a surgical procedure. CPB is itself linked to coagulopathy with activation of the haemostatic system in several different ways . Blood direct contact with the CPB circuit / hoses start the coagulation cascade through the activation of faktorer.1,2 same time there is an activation of the fibrinolytic system , platelet activation 3 / adhesion4 and inflammation and the activation of
Gary Williams and Diane Powell told us about EMS and EMT. Mr. Williams said that basic EMT is a lot of driving. There are 120 hours of training in classroom time and clinical time all together. Mr. Gary took his test at Lamar University, and Paramedics is 480 hours. There is 3 levels to EMT and there is 2 different routes. They only travel in the county, if the hospital can’t help the person in need, they travel farther like Galveston and Houston. You have to have labs on and in ambulance, and the Paramedics get course completion. You can advance to mid-level addition, and 180 hours you can do more advanced treatments. Paramedics work 448 hours to be able to read EKG/ ECG, and that takes pictures of what the heart is doing. At some hospitals,
You must have a high school diploma and also must be CPR certified to get into earn an emergency medical technician certification. Most of these programs are nondegree award programs and can be completed in less than 1 year; others last up to 2 years. Paramedics may need an associate’s degree. You must also be licensed and pass a state exam that is required. To
There are many titles emergency medical physicians can have: ER Physicians, ED Physicians, and Emergency Medical Specialist. The main responsibility of someone in the field of emergency medicine is “the medical specialty with the principal mission of evaluating, managing, treating and preventing unexpected illness and injury’’ (Schneider 1). ER physicians are often categorized by specialty. Cardiovascular, orthopedics, and neurology are just a few. The level of education needed is a bachelor’s degree and medical school. After these tasks are completed, 4 to 7 years of a residency program are usually attended to
I am able to work under pressure and a valuable team member alongside with other EMT's, Paramedics, PD, FD, and other health care providers. I have a great interest in pre-hospital care. Want to gain experience as a 911 provider in order to have a better understanding in patient assessment, management, and medical problems. I listen to carefully to my coworkers, patients, and the general public in order to solve any problems that may arise while working. I will be able to carry this knowledge with me in the future. I plan on enrolling in the paramedic program in my college in the near
As a continuation of our training on medical vocabulary and basic medical training like pulse, my class was able to learn about Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) while also gaining CPR certification through the American Red Cross. During this exercise I learned how to respond and react to a choking or unconscious person or infant. Besides learning response tactics like tapping the victims hip to check for any signs of response and how to most effectively direct onlooking people, we also spend multiple days practicing response procedures. I practiced abdominal thrusts on the other students, and was able to practice CPR procedures on dummies of both adults and infants. With these dummies I was also able to practice with dummy Automated External
EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIANS Education and Training Required • Education Requirements: o High school diploma. • Training Requirements: o 150 hours of training o How to treat trauma emergencies. o Clearing airways. o Preparing for emergencies.
The program of study that I choose is Emergency Services. This program of study includes four levels of training. In these four levels of training students are taught basic and advanced life support methods. EMT training is designed to ready students for a brilliant career. There are several classes that are required to be taken with this program of study. Those classes are Health science education, emergency preparedness, anatomy and physiology or medical terminology, and emergency medical service. There are also several different programs of study that are in this section and would relate. Those being: Athletic trainers, chiropractors, dentists, genetic counselors, home health aides, medical assistants, and many more to choose from.
Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) remains a critical situation with high mortality despite improvements in resuscitation procedures and responses(Lin et al., 2010). In Australia and around the world, many patients suffer cardiac arrest but a lot of them do not respond to the conventional cardiopulmonary resuscitation, 5herefore there is a growing interest in using extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) or Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation assisted cardiopulmonary resuscitation (E-CPR) to provide cardiopulmonary support during in hospital cardiac arrest after conventional cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) has failed to establish an adequate circulation with the goal of promoting survival in select adults (Stub et al., 2015; Thiagarajan
In my case, as an Advanced EMT, I and other EMS personnel in the field, are the assets most in need of protection. In fact, protocol dictates that I and my fellow EMTs and paramedics maintain personal safety above all else, including the provision of patient care.
