Patrolling in San Francisco Growing up I always use to think that I would amount to be a professional athlete. Well that is still not out of the realm of possibilities, but I decided to take my talents elsewhere, a place where I could make a difference in this world, a police detective. I saw a detectives work on TV. This is where I fell in love with what they do. Then after doing research on the topic and interviewing Deputy Cooper, I knew that this is what I really want to do with my life. I love the fact that no day is the same as another one, that everything is random! Although a police detective may not be favorable to most people because of the risk factors, it’s the best

“High School diploma or GED is the minimum education required to a police detective, although most state police detective have an associates or bachelor’s degree” (“Qualifications for Becoming” 2). The more time one goes in the school for the criminal justice field can only benefit me in the long run. Earning a bachelor degree in criminal justice can help one move up the ranks faster than someone who has no college experience (Cooper). Also studying a second language, especially Spanish can benefit salary and employment wise (“Become a Detective” 5). The police force can get very competitive at times, so it’s a good idea to get multiple degrees that include, but not limited to, law enforcement, police science and or criminology. Unlike other professions, police detectives doesn’t require much college time which is a true bonus because it gives one an early start to move up the ranks and become a detective …show more content…
Many might not know this, but the duties itself of a police detectives are very similar to a regular police officer and some types of investigators (“Police Detective” 28). One of their many responsibilities includes serving search and arrest warrants, patrolling districts, conducting investigations, and writing reports (“Police Detective” 11). All of which one can enjoy doing and aren’t too difficult! An example of a major responsibility of a police detective is to, “examine crime scenes to obtain clues and evidence such as loose hairs, fibers, clothing or weapons” (“Police Detective” 1). Nothing a police detective do is considered boring which is why it is a desirable career to someone that likes doing interactive type work and not sitting down in a seat all day doing the same work every day for their whole
Homicide detectives require a lot of training, but this career also requires a bit of schooling. In order to be a homicide detective a person must have a high school diploma. After that their is a requirement of three years as a patrol officer. To become a police officer there is also the police academy training. From there they would have to work up and then have a commanding officer put in a request to be put on the homicide division. Although homicide detective is a career, it is not a guaranteed job.
The career I chose to undertake as my profession is that of a mechanical engineer. Why do I want to become a mechanical engineer? Well, for starters, I would be able to design, build and possibly repair many various machines and other technologies that are complex. These technologies can range from being already in use on a global scale to new, futuristic designs that are highly technical. Also, this career includes being a sort of jack-of-all-trades, where I would possess knowledge in mathematics, physics, etc. Finally, this career offers me the chance to expand outside my immediate area since mechanical engineers are well desired around the globe as well.
What is the importance of goals? Do goals help you plan out your future? Or possibly give you something to work for? To me goals provide a map of what I want to do, how I’m going to do it, and why I want to do it. Goals also provide a sense of accomplishment when you finally get to finish whatever you’ve been working towards. The need for goals in life is clear, because without goals, we wouldn’t get much done. Simply because of the fact that there wouldn’t be anything to work towards, and no structure to our future. One of my most important goals is to graduate college, to get a career in psychology. This goal is extremely important to me because of the fact that not many people in my family have even finished high school.
The purpose of law enforcement is to protect the lives and property of both the community’s citizens and people who visit and work in the community. There are many different levels of law enforcement careers such as local, state and federal agencies. There are also many different occupations within the law enforcement field. One of those occupations is a police officer. (10 Things You Need to Consider Before Becoming a Police Officer, Criminology Careers.com, August 2012, Timothy Roufa, Criminology Careers Expert). To become a police officer it takes more than just wanting to carry a gun and “catch the bad guys”. The hiring process will be long. After submitting an application, each candidate must go through a written test, a physical agility test, an oral interview or two, a “background” check of nearly every aspect of his life, including driving records, drug or alcohol usage, a thorough medical and psychological exam, and a polygraph test. Then after that, each candidate must go through an exhausting physical and mental challenge known as the Police Academy. If the candidates make it through the Police Academy then they advance to on-the-job training known as Field Training, which is even more difficult than the Police Academy. After all of this training and becoming a police officer, one would have to ask themselves if the job is worth it. Police officers are put into dangerous situations daily. After all they have to deal with drunks, the mentally disabled
I have been working on my academic career for many years now. I am currently in my third year of community college, and have come across multiple teachers who have helped and inspired me in many ways. A teacher not only teaches the content of their course, but life skills as well. They are kind, caring, considerate, and understanding of their students. A teacher who goes above and beyond for their students is one that will make a difference. One teacher who I believe has made all the difference to me, was my accounting professor.
The University of San Antonio offers this many majors pertaining to the criminal justice system. “The American Criminal Justice System may be used to satisfy the core requirement in Social and Behavioral Sciences as well as a major requirement: First Year Experience Requirement (3 semester credit hours), Communication (6 semester credit hours), Mathematics (3 semester credit hours), Life and Physical Sciences (6 semester credit hours), Language, Philosophy and Culture (3 semester credit hours), Creative Arts (3 semester credit hours), Show /American History (6 semester credit hours), Government-Political Science (6 semester credit hours), Social and Behavioral Sciences (3 semester credit hours)” (Department of Criminal Justice). One necessarily just can't become a detective straight out of high school. Training in the police academy is required before the start of any criminal investigator job. A college degree is not required to get police training, but it is in order to advance to the next higher level position. These degrees have a good range of variety of majors. " As such, many candidates with their sights set on becoming a detective choose to complete a degree program with a major in subjects such as; criminal justice, criminology, justice administration, sociology, psychology, forensic psychology, police science, crime scene investigations, forensic science"
Imagine waking up every morning in a different country or state and go to the airport to fly back home and fly somewhere else the next day. Thats a dream of many people in the world that they could experience. Its a dream come true for people that actually get that experience. Everyone would love to leave there job to discover the world, but for pilots discovering the world is part of there job.

The Minimum Requirements to become a homicide detective are a high school diploma, law enforcement certification, and experience as a police officer (criminaljusticedegreeschools.com). Due to the fact that you must first be a police officer for a certain amount of time you might not become a detective for a while. Generally people who want to become a homicide detective will have to go through a police academy. Police Academies are usually physically demanding. While it isn’t required, many homicide detectives have a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice or forensic science.
studies leading to college programs in criminology, criminal law, criminal psychology. First there is the regular uniformed police officer that you see all the time. They have the typical everyday duties like enforcing laws and Arresting criminal suspects. They wear uniforms so people can indicate that they are police and they are uniformed police officers….....duh. They work normal shifts and they sometimes work in special units like canine corps and special weapons and tactics (S.W.A.T). But they have to work as a normal police officer several years before going into a special unit. Some other police are State police officers a.k.a State troopers or the Highway patrol. They have a lot of the same jobs as normal police but they issue citations and enforce traffic laws. They can work anywhere in the state. Transit and railroad police patrol transit stations and railroad yards. They check ID’s in secure areas. Sheriffs and Sheriff deputies are usually elected by the community and they often work out in the country to enforce laws. Detectives most of the time work at crime scenes to collect evidence and facts. They interview suspects and witnesses. Game and Fish Wardens enforce hunting, boating, and fishing laws. They make sure the outdoors is protected at all times. That is just some of the police officers in the community but there is many
I love working with people and helping them with their computer needs. I see the opportunity to expand my skills and broaden my experience while continuing to make a difference at JMARK.
I’m interested in the law enforcement career path, and there are a lot of different paths you could take in this career choice. This career got my attention mainly because, I find solving mysteries and crimes very intriguing. The origin of this occupation came in during the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, coming into America from England. “Generally speaking, the constable became responsible for law enforcement in the towns, while the sheriff took responsibility for the counties” (Stinchcomb 3). The educational requirements for this occupation at a minimum are as high school diploma or GED. Our high school provides us with a forensics class you can take your senior year, and we have an athletics department that you could join anytime
They can do this by engaging in regular exercise and fitness training, which better equips them for handling danger and stress. Detectives can keep a sharp mind by brushing up on new techniques and technology. For example, studying computer forensics can be extremely useful because of the increase in cybercrime. Detectives must be very perceptive and observant to do their jobs; the ability to pay keen attention to detail is a very important quality for a detective. Individuals should cultivate these skills while on the job, paying close attention to crime scenes and accidents, and learning how to capture details in reports. Detectives typically are chosen from existing police officers; thus, aspiring detectives should express their interest to superior officers to be kept in mind for promotion. Many agencies require police officers to serve at least three years before becoming eligible for detective positions. Promotion within agencies is generally based on an individual's position on a promotion list, scores on agency exams and an evaluation of his or her performance as a police officer. According to the BLS, growth in this field is expected to stay about the same in coming years, but those with more experience and military training will likely have better professional
It is a long process when becoming a detective. In college, classes such as: English, American history, business law, government, psychology, sociology, chemistry, and physics are suggested. Before becoming a detective, one must attend a law enforcement academy, providing the officer with a foundation of education with sixteen to twenty-four college units in criminal justice or administration of criminal justice. (Morkes 677) After graduation from the law enforcement academy the officer undergoes job training with a field training officer for a period specified by the law enforcement agency and continues to work while on a probationary period, ranging from one to two years.
