Final Written Assignment #2 Carlos Santana was born on July 20, 1947, in Autlan de Navarro, Mexico. Santana was born into a family of professional musicians. Santana had a solid relationship with his father Jose Santana, who was a professional violinist. Jose taught his son Carlos how to play the violin at the age of five. Jose learned lessons from his father Antonio, that he later passed on to his son Carlos Santana. According to Norman Weinstein, Contributor of “Carlos Santana/A biography” states that those lessons consist of: “A freelance professional musician has to be willing to perform a wide variety of musical styles (folk, classical, and pop) in order to please a wide spectrum of audiences. All musical styles are worthy of equal respect since all music is tied to people’s need for emotional, heartfelt expression through memorable melodies. In order to make a living, a musician has to travel to where the jobs are and not be fixated on trying to earn an income from home” (2009). Alcantara 2

Lacking interest in Mexican music, and the violin, at the age of 8 Santana learned how to play the guitar. “He dreamt of playing guitar for bands like he heard on radio broadcasts during the early days of rock” (Weinstein, 2009). Without delay, when he became a teenager Santana began to perform in strip clubs, in Tijuana. He was inspired by Artists like B.B King, Ray Charles, blues music, little Richards, and American rock and roll. Hoping to find work, Jose Santana moved the family to San Francisco in the 1960’s. Carlos Santana was then introduced to new music, such as Jazz, and folk music which had an influence on
Every time Johnny Cash would step out in front of a crowd he would greet his millions of followers with the same line: “Hello, I’m Johnny Cash”. Known as The Man in Black, for it was the only color he would wear after 1957 (Streissguth 80). Cash through his more than 50 year career had thirteen number 1 hits (Macnie). Anyone familiarized with grunge music can agree that the genre skyrocketed in popularity in the 90’s, due to bands such as Radiohead, Nirvana, and most importantly Pearl Jam. From the beginning of Seattle’s early grunge scene rose a band that would go on to make multi-platinum albums, tour the world, and use their platform to express their own beliefs. Pearl Jam, in spite of their fame, prefer to use their art to reflect their values and use their platform to convey their activist beliefs. Starting in Seattle’s grunge scene, Stone Gossard and Jeff Ament started work on a demo tape after their band, Mother Love Bone, split after the tragic death of lead singer Andrew Wood. They recorded most of the tape without vocals, in hopes for finding
So recently, I got into a heated discussion with an associate about the supposed suicide of Nirvana front man Kurt Cobain. This began friendly enough but quickly spiraled into both my associate and I just being rude to each other. This started because back in June of this year a documentary was released entitled Soaked in Bleach, which was quite revealing. In it, the former Seattle, WA chief of police Norm Stamper stated that,

The first Piece that I’ve listened to was Angel Romero performing Bach’s “Sarabande BWV 995” on the classic nylon string guitar. He plays this cover with extreme emotion and great imitation. Angel Romero was a composer, conductor, and a maestro as well. Romero was born August 17, 1946 in Malaga, Spain. He made his professional debut at the age of six and his United States Debut at the Hollywood Bowl when he was 16 giving the West Coast premiere of the famed Rodrigo’s “Aranjuaez Concerto.” Spain is a very music oriented country and has a lot of fancy traditions. Romero was hailed for his superior artistry as the Spanish maestro of the guitar. He played the guitar so fluently, almost as if he was in another world when he strummed. He has appeared

The majority of his family was very musical. When he was 7, his parents got a divorce and ever since that he was very anti-social and picked on in his public school. After this he distanced himself from virtually everyone. He had believed his father took his step mother’s side and was very frustrated with him. He moved out of his father’s house to live with relatives. He never stayed with one relative for a long period of time and was constantly moving from house to house. In his
Carlos Santana once said, “Just as Jesus created wine from water, we humans are capable of transmuting emotion into music." After attending this concert and listening to the many different types of music and incredible instrumentation that accompanied it, I believe this quote accurately describes each song the show contained. The concert took place at the Royal Albert Hall in London and lasted roughly around an hour. Throughout the performance the cast completed five songs ranging from soft and sweet to fast and upbeat. All music was comprised of important works from the 20th century. Each song had its own uniqueness and featured a large variety of instruments such as flutes, horns, drums, string symphonies, and the piano.
Santana knew something was not right with Rachel. She wore long sleeves in the hot summer, she had lost an extreme amount of weight and she had pulled away from her and Kurt. Rachel was always working, at school, with Brody or locked up in her room. They would cook her favorite dinners trying to go get Rachel to join them and hopefully, eat or talk to them. But nothing worked.
