Furthermore, they will not help only Charlie but also his mother who is affected by domestic abuse and his father Jerry who has substance abuse issues. Another agency that represent these field of practice is the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. The SAMHSA mission is “to reduce the impact of substance abuse and mental illness on America's communities.” (Mission, 2015). They advocate and provide advice for people who are affected by substance abuse, behavior disorder, mental illness etc. They intend on doing this by supplying treatments that are effective and helping people to recover. This is agency is also a perfect fit because it can help Charlie with overcoming his any mental illnesses that might be causing him to be disruptive such as
Children’s mental illness affects approximately one fifth of youth worldwide, and although it is the children who experience symptoms directly, implications associated with mental illness can impact entire families (Richardson, Cobham, McDermott & Murray, 2013). As such, healthcare systems are being redesigned to include a focus on family-centeredness. In the case of children’s mental health specifically, family-centered coordinated care represents an understanding of treatment, not only derived from the child’s experience, but also from the parents’ and caregivers’ perspectives (Olin, Hemmelgarn, Madenwald, & Hoagwood, 2015). Unlike other interventions in children’s mental health, this treatment approach acknowledges the vital role that families play in promoting the health and wellbeing of children, and it serves to empower family members by including them in treatment practices and decision-making processes (McGinty, Worthington, & Dennison, 2008; Olin et al., 2015). Through this collaborative approach to children’s mental health, partnerships can be established among health care providers, patients, and families, who each contribute to continued stabilization (Johnson, 2000; McGinty et al., 2008). Moreover, family-centered coordinated care serves to link children and adolescents with appropriate treatment interventions, while correspondingly introducing families to resources that foster parental
For my senior year field placement, I am currently working at Elwyn’s Media campus in the Children’s Behavioral Health Services Outpatient program. At the outpatient program I am working with the Director of Clinical Operations, Ellen Chung. I also work with Jennifer Torrey who is the Clinical Coordinator for Elwyn’s Media location’s Outpatient program. I also work one on one with the Outpatient Case Manager, Shaneen Brown. I am also working in the Therapeutic After School Program (TASP). At the TASP I work with the Case Manager Jennifer Ziegler and the Clinical Case Manager Denise Georganas. The outpatient therapy team at Elwyn is a multidisciplinary team that works to help children reach their fullest potential. Some services offered by the Outpatient program at Elwyn are psychiatric evaluations, individual therapy, group therapy, family therapy, medication management, client/family education and community resources. The goal of the Therapeutic Socialization Program is to facilitate socialization and communication skills and to decrease problematic behaviors through participation in fun and engaging in activities. This program is based on the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis and other proven approaches to develop individually tailored treatment protocols to help children, adolescents and young adults in the areas of socialization, self-regulation and communication. The TASP also focuses on providing parents with new information to better understand their child’s

These services are mainly psychotherapy and biomedical therapy. Psychotherapy is understanding your mind and illness, helping cope with feelings and symptoms, and changing behavior patterns that cause symptoms of the illness. When children don’t use the proper mental health services, they are at a greater risk for difficulties later in life such as substance abuse, suicide, or involvement with the correctional system (Turner). Therefore it is, important to not only attend psychotherapy but to also be on the proper medication when dealing any mental illness. In the American Psychiatric Association’s new DSM-5, fifteen new disorders are listed. Some mental health professionals fear that medication will now be given to those who would have earlier been seen as the “worried well” (Rubinstein, 2013). The key is to distinguish when one is mentally ill and needs assistance and when they are just going through a tough situation. Many psychologists have been through the same situation, and could help guide past that tough time in
Ther Kingsboro Psychiatric Center is the only psychiatric hospital in Brooklyn, which is state-run with 140 beds. At Brooklyn general hospitals, there are 790 psychiatric inpatient beds, which is 40.2 beds per100,000 compared to 41.0 in NYC (NYS DOH, 2014).
Currently, worldwide tobacco has been consumed by millions of people who end up being victims of various diseases caused by the consumption of this substance, becoming a major public health problem due to the damage to the tobacco users and those around them. It is known that the nurses comprised the largest group of health professionals. Thus, this group represents a significant part in development of actions for tobacco control. Because of this, organizations such as American Psychiatric Nurses Association (APNA), plays an important role in advocating and directing the nurses who care for patients who smoke. This paper will bring a brief summary about this organization, what is the impact of smoking for nursing, and also how the APNA helps
According to a study in the journal of Pediatric Dentistry, parents of children with autism define their children’s oral health as fair or poor. Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder have difficulties adjusting with the dental scenery, due mainly to their inability to communicate and socialize their thoughts and feelings. Dental office visits can be challenging to the child with autism and therefor the parent as well. It is our job as a dental professional to help make these office visits as pleasant as possible to both the patient and the caregiver.
Case management services were provided through a face to face interaction in Santa Ana. Present at the meeting were WYP (Wraparound Youth Partner) Andy Ngo and the youth. Service minutes are high, because WYP Ngo spent time building rapport with the youth. WYP Ngo rode a bike with the youth while in the community and took the youth out to get some food. WYP Ngo gathered information during the rapport building. The youth likes psychical activities and playing video games (especially Mine Craft). The youth likes cars, bikes, and motorcycles. The youth had a fun time at school playing with his peers. The youth is very polite and ask for things. WYP Ngo prompted the youth a few time to say thank you when WYP Ngo assist the youth with something.
Clinician role-plays with the youth to demonstrate age appropriate interventions. The youth practices positive communication with adults and peers in diverse settings. Clinician discussed the youth sporadic hyper behaviors

In March 2015 I was able to discuss this issue with a prominent Paediatric Psychiatrist, Dr Daniel Geller. We discussed his experience with the medicinal use of cannabis. Dr Geller stated that in the 1960’s doctors failed to fight for the continuation of cannabis treatments around the same time that there was growing clinical evidence of the negative health effects of opium and barbiturates had on the individual, their family and society. Partnered with this modern medicine gave doctors a new, reliable stable of drugs for well known illnesses. Dr Geller, has seen substance abuse and addiction to these synthetic drugs which have always been far more deadly than the use or misuse of cannabis. While medical records internationally show thousands
The most recent international research study, documented on May 17th, 2016 in the Lancet Psychiatry scientific journal discusses a clinical trial that took years and substantial funds before receiving ethical approval and becoming approved. Thoroughly recording the Imperial College of London’s Department of Medicine study’s methodology, procedure, participants and outcomes, the size of the trial and the lack of a control group, no placebo, means that the study can only be used as a proof of principle for further research. The pilot study of psilocybin’s use to treat typical treatment-resistant depression proved that it was safe and effective. Before the study there were no clinical trials that focused on the precise treatment of depression
After making it abundantly clear who controlled the sessions, McHugh relaxed back in his seat, and awaited the young woman's reaction to his curtness. Or, he appeared to relax, for truth be told, from the moment she'd stepped into his office with her youthful model looks, attired in the school uniform, the Psychiatrist sensed he might be out of his depth.
Renee's idea of Psychiatry was to spend a few hours each day in the Psych unit, make a few remarks about how lucky he was to have such a good student like Bernard taking care of his patients, and retreat to his abode on the Champs a la Roosevelt Boulevard for an evening of French wine and great thoughts. Luckily, Dr. Bill was aware of the situation and made himself available to Bernie whenever the Big One needed help.
