During this semester I had the opportunity to work along the side with many dentists, hygienists, assistants, treatment coordinators, and also financial coordinators at Dental Associates of Manchester. Dental Associates of Manchester is located at 120 E Fayette Street, Manchester, Ia 52057. While I was on the work site at Dental Associates my job duties were to watch how the dentist and hygienists work and clean inside a patient's mouth and their full routine of what they do before a patient comes in and after a patient comes in. While I was working up front my job duties were to watch and see how they interact with customers and how they go about signing in patients checking them out and also scheduling them for their next appointment if necessary.

As dental health care providers, we look at the many ways we can help our community with their access to care, ways to provide preventative treatment, and how we may best be able provide services to our clients. Many times the largest issue that lies within our community is access to care1. On March 7th, 2016 I visited Eckman Family Dentistry for my career exploration project. Eckman Family Dentistry is a private practice with hours during the week from 6:30am to 5:00pm during the weekdays. The facility is closed during the weekend. The office size was medium sized (10’ by 15’). There were ten treatment rooms, and one x-ray room. Client age vary from six months of age to elderly. Client’s diversity is primarily Caucasian.

The program will explore the possibility of obtaining a list of licensed hygienist names from the state of Wisconsin. Other possible sources of names of Wisconsin dental hygienist may be the Wisconsin Dental Hygiene Association (WDHA) and the WCTC and Milwaukee Area Technical College’s dental hygiene programs. If the lists are obtained a direct mailing campaign could be developed as flyers highlighting the major components of the program. The focus of the mailing will be to the surrounding Waukesha county areas to prevent making the mistake of receiving a low response rate from mis-targeted mailings (Donsky & Marsello, 2009, p. 13). In short, we had a lack of students attending the Preview Days because Crater and Butte Falls high schools backed out of the event. The team discussed that there were only about ten students that attended the event. Thank you AHO staff for helping out.
