Have you ever wondered what the oilers were like in their first season? And what's in the future for Connor McDavid? The first captain for the Edmonton Oilers was Ron Chipperfield. Glen Sather (first oilers coach) thought he was responsible and put up good work ethic. Ron was a 5 year veteran hockey player in the WHA, He was very mature on and off the ice. The Edmonton Oilers were one of the 4 new teams that entered the NHL during the 1979/1980 expansion team. Mark Messier and Wayne Gretzky were on the team at this time. Although none of the players that came from the 4 expansion teams could claim the calder trophy because they played in the WHA for the first 3 games. It was while Joseph played for the marvelous Cape Breton Post Bombers hockey club in 1964 that he first took up coaching. “It was an after-school hockey program at the former St. Joseph’s Elementary School in Sydney,” he said. “I was at it for about 10 years and I really enjoyed helping the kids.”
On May 9th 1965 a leader was born, and that leader was Steve Yzerman. Yzerman was born in Cranbrook, British Columbia. He began skating when he was a mere 3 years old, but was still a little too young to play organized hockey with his older brother Mike, who was two years older. At age 5 Yzerman started playing organized ice hockey, but really couldn’t skate all that well. In fact, his first gino (goal) was scored because he had slipped up in front of the adversaries net and an opposing defenseman bounced the puck off a teammate. Since Yzerman was the closest to the puck, he was given credit for the goal. This was certainly not a foundation suitable for a legendary career.
first off, Bobby Orr showed that he is one of the most influential hockey players in the NHL from his career statistics and records. "He came into his own two years later, in 1969-70, becoming the only player to ever win all four major awards --
Second year as an Under-10 Squirt level hockey player for the New Jersey Colonials ice hockey team proved to be a challenging and harrowing experience that shaped the course of my future hockey career. I was a determined, naïve child with fantasies of playing in the NHL when I grew older. The source of my troubles began with Coach Ruben, a relentless, unforgiving hockey coach. Coach Ruben was in charge of determining the AAA hockey team that I desperately wanted to make. Unfortunately, I would not have that opportunity. My mom, compassionate and sympathetic, guided me through the confusing maze of anger and depression. My dad, a coach and former hockey player, gave me valuable, supportive advice that would change my hockey expectations and
During the summer of 1979, Doug Sulliman was part of a bumper crop of future NHLers chosen in the opening round of the league’s annual entry draft. Included were the likes of Mike Gartner, Rick Vaive, Ray Bourque, Paul Reinhart and Michel Goulet.
The most memorable moment in hockey history came thirty-four years ago with the 1980 Miracle on Ice. The Americans defeating the dominant Soviet team at the Olympics was not only an important triumph for USA Hockey, but for the entire nation. Contrary to popular belief, the underdog win was not only the result of a miracle; it was also the result of a hard-working team led by Coach Herb Brooks. With increasingly negative views on the position of the United States in the Cold War, the Miracle on Ice and the gold medal win lifted the spirits of the nation and brought hockey into the American spotlight.
Former Senator Buddy Robinson tipped his fourth of the season past Andrew Hammond, giving a 1-0 led for the Manitoba Moose. He later would strikes= again with his second of the game on a Manitoba Moose 5-3 man advantage. Not before Erik Burgdoerfer answered back tying the game as he scored his second goal in as many games. A wrister from the point assisted by Max Lajoie on the Power Play.
In addition to taking the Cape Breton championship that year, the Post Bombers captured the provincial and Maritime crowns. However, Verbeski believes that Glace Bay, and not Sydney, could just as easily have been the winners of the whole shebang. “They got a break and capitalized. We had two super players, captain Harvey Ellsworth and Port Morien’s Rodney MacIntosh, and they had two glorious chances in the third to either tie it or win it but they were foiled by Mike Novak, a tremendous little goaltender. Our goaltender, Billy MacMullen, played extremely well, too.”
When he was traded for multiple Los Angeles players in 1988, Canada was set into somewhat of an emotional earthquake. This shows how dedicated we are to supporting our home-grown players.

Bobby Orr redefined what it is like to be a defenseman. He played for the Boston Bruins and won eight Norris Trophies as best defenseman and many Hart Trophies as well. His career was limited due to bad knees. He would rush up in the offensive zone and basically be another forward out there but also rush back and play stellar defense. One of the most iconic pictures in sports shows him diving in the air right after he scored the Stanley Cup clinching goal against the St. Louis
Defenseman Duncan Keith, who gave the Blackhawks a 1-0 lead, had 21 points and played more than 700 minutes during the playoffs. He was the deserving winner of the Conn Smythe Trophy, given to the most valuable player (MVP) of the postseason.
The Nashville Predators have been going through a seemingly endless process since entering the NHL in 1998. It did not take the Predators long to establish a successful and competitive nature among the franchise. Their first five seasons they struggled becoming a team and missed the playoffs, however, they have come together and made the playoffs every year since. The Predator’s on-ice performance was consistently among the top three teams in the league, but still faced many challenges.
