The practitioner follows learning methods that were acquired as a scholar; these methods include meticulous research aimed at discovering valid and relevant information. The presence of information literacy carries over into the educational practitioner’s professional life. According to Russell (2009) “Many post-secondary practitioners who value an information literacy framework would agree that there exists a significant gap in the information competencies that students demonstrate during the high school to university transition.” If this is the case then it stands to reason that the responsibility lies on the grammar, middle, and high school level educational practitioners to close the gap in information competencies in a manner that will make the high school to university transition a smoother process. Mokhtar (2007) says “the main learning component that must be inculcated in students is information literacy.”The educational system can implement a progressive learning geared toward preparing students for college level competency. 2.My proficiency is the ability to elaborate on concepts, but I have to be careful not add unnecessary words to confuse my audience. My expectations for this year is that this is going to be a difficult class, however the class will be beneficial for years to come. Mr. Webb will attempt to train his students to become strong writers and do well on the AP exam in May.

Administrative records at the University of Saskatchewan yield information that illustrates this change in the faculty. Archived information shows that Jean Bayer, formerly the librarian and secretary to the president of the University, Walter Murray, replaced Reginald Bateman upon his enlistment within the 28th Infantry Battalion on October 26th, 1914. Following his death in 1918, Bayer became a permanent faculty member. Sandra M. Gilbert, Professor of English at the University of California, notes in her essay ‘Soldier’s Heart: Literary Men, Literary Women, and the Great War’ the idea that as men left to fight in the war, women on the home front “seemed to become, as if by some uncanny swing of history's pendulum, ever more powerful.” From 1917 to 1920, the University of Saskatchewan saw a rise in female instructors; increasing in number from two to fifteen. This shift in the involvement of women is indicative of the gradually changing notion that the role of academic instructor is a primarily male
I was so incredibly excited when Neal Dougherty began talking in class on Thursday because I was on the wait list for his 306 classes this spring. Sadly, I did not get in, but I was so thankful he came to talk to the class! Hearing about the digital artwork Neal and Dax have created is exactly why I wanted to do the Bridging Disciplines Program in the first place. Graphic design and 2D artwork is one of my passions in life and it is inspiring to hear from people who have been so highly successful in this digital art world.
During the course of this semester; the variety of writing styles and essays assigned to me in my communication skills class encouraged the development of my writing skills, as well as provided me with more self-assurance in my abilities. My writing, research, and presentation abilities enhanced through practice, determination, and the understanding I gained during this course. With every single writing assignment, I learned new innovative approaches and skills, which enhanced my abilities to improve my thoughts logically, enabling me to write more clearly, and to organize my papers more effectively. At the beginning of this semester; despite the fact that I already knew the terminology MAP: message, audience, purpose; I never really
I could not fathom the thought, much less move so far away from family and friends at the path you have chosen. I suppose at the moment when this all took place of leaving your love ones to travel a far distance, who could have known how stress affects the mind and body. Having read the (GAS) section, consisting of the three stages, I had no clue of all the side effect and how detrimental stress is. Knowing the wear and tear this has on our body is nerve racking.
Technology is a helpful tool for teaching the writing process, and Marchisan and Alber (2001) concluded that writers can be taught to write using the writing process approach paired with tools of technology, direct instruction, and committed well-trained teachers. Graham, (2008), Graham & and Perin (2007a), and Rogers & and Graham, (2008), agreed that technology makes the process of writing easier and often provides very specific types of support. Word processing provides at least four advantages: (a) revisions are easily made, (b) publishing is professional-looking, (c) typing provides an easier means for children with fine motor skill challenges to produce text, and (d) word-processing programs have software programs, such as spell and stylistic checkers designed to reduce specific types of miscues. Other tools are speech synthesis (i.e., the writer’s spoken words are transcribed to electronic text) and word-prediction programs (i.e., the computer program reduces the key strokes by predicting the writer’s next word). This is helpful for students with difficulties with spelling and the mechanics of writing. In addition, outlining and semantic mapping software can aide with the planning process, and the use of computer networks and the Internet can help to promote communication and collaboration among writers.

Throughout the semester, I have gained skills necessary for understanding and utilizing logic while writing. I am now aware that for any writing to be scholarly, it must possess an introductory section, a body and a conclusion section. Further, I am now able to understand as well as utilize most of the basic techniques useful in pre-writing, revision and editing. Through writing the “downloading from torrents” paper, I acquired skills in word processing, sentence elements, and punctuation. Further, I developed some special skills in writing a website analysis which is a critical aspect in contemporary learning as argued by Flateby (p 182). As the semester folds, I believe that I have gained the prerequisite skills in writing and critical thinking. However, I need to improve much on some of the common problems in writing that seems to disturb me especially grammar.
In writing it’s important to have an understanding of what you’re trying to convey for your audience in addition to how you you will present your ideas. Effective communication extends beyond having well organized writing expressed in complete and coherent sentences. The style, tone and clarity of writing must also be considered, as they are constantly changing relative to the audience. Again, analyzing one’s audience and purpose is essential to successful writing. Appropriately, when choosing the most effective language, it is important to consider the document objective as well as the reader. In essence, this idea of effective use of language has been the overarching theme of this online English course. Each writing assignment
