Walmart case study
To start of my case study, I’ll give you a brief history of Walmart’s background and what they do as a company, I will reiterate some of their contributing to society. I’ll also touch on some of the information I learned in the article and my take on it. Per the case study article Wal-Mart is the largest retail store in the United States, and is larger than any other retail chain in the world. Currently Wal-Mart operates over 4,150 retail facilities globally. Also, the company is the dominant retail store in Canada, Mexico, and the United Kingdom. in 2011 Walmart faced a lawsuit dubbed “Dukes vs Walmart” Betty Dukes, a Wal-Mart greeter at a Pittsburg, California store, and five other women filed a class action lawsuit in which they alleged that the company 's nationwide policies resulted in lower pay for women than men in comparable positions and longer wait for management promotions than men. The certified class, which in 2001 was estimated to comprise more than 1.5 million women, includes all women employed by Wal-Mart nationwide at any time after December 26, 1998, making this the largest class action lawsuit in U.S. history. My take on this is that I feel she did the right thing by taking Walmart to court woman deserve to be treated with respect and deserve equally pay as everybody else, she stood up for all woman out there, I’ve being able to witness my cousin who was 8 month pregnant be treated disrespectfully by Walmart she was eight month pregnant advised by doctor to stop working because it too strenuous for her body even after she provide a doctor note to Walmart and there management they would still call her in to come work, which I think is very wrong and messed up, they even threatened to fire her at times.
With Walmart being a high-performance organization Walmart strategic goal is to dominate the retail market and retain their customer and gain new customers, they do this by offering low price by selling at the "lowest price." Walton outlines that the essence of successful discount
