Extra-curricular activities are other school movements that allow students to participate and develop their aptitude in other aspects, like sports, student government, and talents. In school, a lot of students also excel in extra-curricular activities other than the academic aspect. There are some who are capable and knowledgeable in nature, aside from focusing in their academic performance, were also participating in various extra-curricular activities. However, there are also some students who are too focused in their extra-curricular activities that they forget to give time in their academe. In this paper, we will determine the effects of having too many extra-curricular activities in the student’s academic life. Students can’t have constant priorities. Sometimes students are much more interested in their extra-curricular activities that they give more importance to it than their studies. Since students can have freedom to show their skills and talents in doing extra-curricular activities, they often get to their practice even if it already interfere in their regular classes. For example, in athletics field, a basketball practice can also …show more content…
It is hard for students to attend their class or study since sometimes it is having a conflict with their extra-curricular activities or when students have a free time, instead of studying they spend it to do those extra-curricular activities. This is inevitable especially if the student loves sports so much. Also there are times when extra-curricular activities have important schedules that students cannot miss even if it is already finals week. For example, when it comes to sports, there might be a competition and you need to train. Another is, when it comes to journalism, there is a need for a lot of time for interviews and doing research. Students still have to interview news resources and validate every information gathered for an unprecedented news article or news
Extracurriculars are there for students to enjoy activities other than their academics, but it is also a way to shows that they can focus on education and outside life at the same time. Some students do not take school seriously enough. Coming to school might just be a way for athletes to participate in the sport they want to. Not every students has exceeding academic skills, however, anyone can succeed if they just try. Being able to multitask will behoove the students in the future. Undergraduates tend to separate their school and outside life. Older adults do this as well; but instead of school, it is work they have to worry about. During exam week, students will want to study and it will take away their eating and sleeping time. Eating and studying is a vigorous way to
When students participate in extracurricular activities they learn lessons and concepts of leadership, teamwork, organization, analytical thinking, problem solving, and time management. In high school if a student wants to do a sport or other activity they will pick the activity that they like and enjoy. This is the kind of decision making skill that could help determine the type of career path for a student. By participating in extracurricular activities youth can find something they enjoy learn to use this in a career. “Participating in certain extracurricular activities having to do with the field that the student is interested in could help them find a job. If someone is looking at a resume for a potential employee, and they see they have experience or interest in what they are looking for, they will be more likely to hire that person” (Massoni). Having been apart of a particular extracurricular activity can be a positive influence in a job resume. This will cause students to find a new ambition in a career. Even on college applications these activities will affect if a student will be accepted, and in some circumstances many activities can earn a student thousands of dollars in scholarships (Massoni). Extracurricular activities can benefit students in teaching them long term commitments. When youth participate in
Some activities may require an attendance of once a week, while some require three days a week. Activities that requires strong commitment, such as soccer and basketball, are not only time consuming but are also physically and mentally draining. For example, a student maybe required to attend training for four hours a day and three times a week. By the time the student returns home, he would be extremely tired after attending school for six hours followed by strenuous four hours of training. Furthermore, the student would have to spend another one to two hours completing assignments that are due the next day. Hence, teenagers would not have any time to sit back, be relaxed and be bored as they would be busy trying to balance the limited amount of time needed for both studies and after-school
If a researcher wants to determine if a student who participated in extra-curricular activities in high school will have higher grades in college than a student who didn’t, they could see the cause and effect that extra-curricular activities has on a student’s college studies.
Play less and study more! Due to global increase in competition, kids today are forced to achieve very high grades or secure very high percentages. Students are so worried about grades and position that neither they have anytime for themselves nor for any extracurricular activities. They suffer from several disorders such as depression and emotional disorders. Academic subjects and extra-curricular activities complement each other and develop a well-rounded, socially skilled, and healthier student. There are so many possible extra-curricular activities that each student can choose one those appeals to him or her personality. Extra-curricular activities help to develop the whole student
The students that won't be playing sports may not pay attention as much as they did before. If they still want to do something else we have academic clubs that the students can join and it can can help them pay attention more
Most students can find it hard going to several practices a week and also find time to keep up with their studies. Time management can be very difficult and stressful. Also, athletics tend to overtake schoolwork because of the pressure from teammates, family members, coaches, and the stress of getting a scholarship. (Sports: How much is too much?)

The time demands related to their sport makes it difficult for student athletes to completely devote themselves to their academic pursuits. After a long day of practice and training or even an athletic game, it is difficult for the athlete to have enough energy to put forth his or her best effort on his or her academics (Sharp & Sheilley, 2008). When teams have an away game during the week, student athletes may not return back to campus until 1:00 or 2:00 in the
For the longest time it has been known that student athletes often miss classes. Moreover,
High school varsity team practices usually last up to two hours. For student-athletes, this is valuable time that can be used for homework, projects, studying, and other important school-related activities that are graded by professors and teachers. Grades are important in high school; they help decide one’s class rank, GPA, etc., which is needed for multiple college applications. Students who do not have time to study or finish homework will suffer a decrease in their grades. They are required to put in extra work in order to keep their grades up and ensure they have time to complete their school work. Being a student-athlete requires organization and time management. It is difficult to keep track of one’s schedule and assure he or she is at every practice and game and he or she has time for school work. However, it is possible. Numerous athletes are able to succeed in playing several sports at once and staying caught up in school. For example, there are college athletes that have school work for their majors that they need to finish in order to graduate and earn their degree. Student-athletes in college tend to be some of the most intelligent individuals at the universities. These individuals are role models for student-athletes in high school that lack the ability to manage time well and stay
A lot of students think that they have to spend the whole time studying, and they put themselves in isolation, but they end up with bad grades. I used to play soccer when I was in high school but when I moved to college I thought playing soccer will distract me, but I was wrong. Playing soccer in high school was helping me to clear my mind which helped me to focus when I study. A lot of students do not realize that doing activities while studying in college will help them to improve their grades. Doing activities like having a part time job, playing a sport, or joining a club help the students to clear their minds. In the other hand there are students who are unable balance their working time and studying time, those students should stop working because their grades will go down. Each student should have activities outside the school but when these activities affect the grade the student has to leave these
School-organized sports are organized within a students study curriculum. There is little to no evidence to suggest that schools would allow students to skip their classes so that they attend to their sports commitments. Rather, programs are made to suit both the academic commitments of a student and their sports requirements. There is no denying that a balance may lack at some point where sports competitions may require extra commitment but not to the extent that a student would
It is important for adolescents to participate in extracurricular activities. Student who participate in these activities improve their academic scores and social life. Extracurricular activities can also help reduce many peer pressure related problems. “They enrich the lives of the students, their families and our communities. These activities create well rounded children who learn what their interests and talents are because they have been exposed to such opportunities” (Extracurricular Activities, Blogadmin). For most adolescents extracurricular activities should be required among what they do outside of school.
