In life there are days which will completely shock an entire nation, days such as April 18th, 1906 or September 11th, 2001. These types of days contain a rare power and have the ability to change the direction of whole countries. On December 7th in the year 1941 just before 8 a.m., a wave of change swept the nation, when a swarm of Japanese fighter descended on Pearl Harbor. This attack would create a sequence of event that would change the world, and expose a necessary evil. Michael J. O’Neal provided an overview of the attack and the chain of cause an effect that would follow. What caused Japan to attack Pearl Harbor and how did end? The attack on Pearl Harbor was devastating, and it was executed without remorse for human life. It placed a blemish in the United States history books as a day from hell or as Greg Hope stated the “date which will live in infamy” (Hope, 2016, Para. 2). When the thousands of red and white colored planes revealed their presents of the horizon and began the assault on the American naval base at Pearl Harbor near Honolulu, Hawaii thousand would be dead by the end of day. The Japanese bombardment lasted just over two hours, but would create a grave yard in its aftermath. The Japanese successfully destroyed nearly 20 American naval ships, which included eight massive battleships, and more than 300 American fighter plans. The United States of America lost more than 2,000 navy sailors, and another 1,000 soldiers were wounded during the
On Sunday morning, December 7, 1941, at 7:55 AM the Japanese Empire led a surprise attack on the US Naval base Pearl Harbor in Hawaii, that would leave millions of Americans in shock, and heartbroken. Before the attack, the United States kept a low profile on International affairs, and concentrated on the domestic affairs at hand. This tragic moment in American history forever remembered. It is a mournful day for the American people, although, for the Japanese Empire it was an honorable day, one they would call a
“Yesterday, December 7, 1941—a date which will live in infamy—the United States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked by the naval plus the air forces of the Empire of Japan.” The bombing of Pearl Harbor was the start of America’s entrance into the Second World War. Just before 08:00 on the Sunday morning, hundreds of fighter planes descended onto the naval base incapacitating almost 20 naval vessels along with over 300 airplanes. The attack on Pearl Harbor also killed over 2,400 Americans
On December 7th, 1941 Pearl Harbor was attacked by Japan. On this horrific day over 2,400 Americans were killed by the bombs that the Japanese had dropped. A month preliminary to the attack, Japan sent a plenipotentiary to Washington to arrange the nation’s expansions in Asia. Although if the United States didn’t accept this aggression, Japan was ready to launch a surprise attack. President Roosevelt launched bombs to the Philippines between the Japanese and Dutch oil fields, before they had sent the plenipotentiary. The bombing of Pearl Harbor was over seven hours long, they were 353 Japanese fighter planes, torpedo planes launched bomb. They were a bombing blitz that destroyed 188 U.S. aircraft, had sunken 4 U.S. Navy battleships, and killed more than 2400 Americans with an additional 1,100 injured.
“Our military thought that they couldn't get to Pearl Harbor, that it was too long a journey from Japan to get there, and they proved us wrong”- Jerry Bruckheimer. This quote helps explains that the United States thought that Japan could not get to the United States.
The bombing of Pearl Harbor was a very startling attack that altered American history. It is a significant moment in American history that will not be forgotten. This confrontation happened between America and Japan for different reasons that are presented in this paper. America and Japan had weak negotiations and communications, which led to the attack on Pearl Harbor; however, America reacted on the attack effectively. Because of these circumstances, the rival led to the bombing and destruction of Pearl Harbor, America showed the world how tall and proud it can stand after a silent, sneak attack; however, America may have been knocked down, but ultimately not defeated.
It was a day full of ongoing horror that was covered in the media unlike any day before it.on Dec. 8, 1941, one day after the bloodiest attack on U.S. soil by a foreign country, news organizations attempted to make sense of it all. Far removed from the future 24/7 news cycle, the correspondents of the era had only bits and pieces of information from the Japanese assault on Hawaii and did their best to put it into a broader context. Looking back on the articles on the 69th anniversary, the stories are often unclear about exactly how the attack on the Pearl Harbor Naval Base happened. What was evident, however, was that it was destined to bring about another world war. Its conclusion remained unknown.
During the early 1940’s, World War II was upon the United States of America. After the attack on Pearl Harbor, the U.S. was ready to go to war with The Empire of Japan. During this time, many U.S. citizens grew great hatred toward anyone of Japanese ancestry. People began to become paranoid and treated any Japanese person with great disrespect. All of this started with the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. After the attack, many Japanese people were sent to concentration camps. Many of them were either put in jail because of their race, or just because they refused to go to the concentration camps. This also happened in David Guterson’s fiction book, Snow Falling on Cedars. After the attack on Pearl Harbor,
At 7:55 AM on Sunday, December 7, 1941, hundreds of Japanese warplanes, launched from aircraft carriers far out at sea, attacked the American Pacific fleet anchored at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. The attack took a terrible toll: eight battleships, including the USS Arizona, three light cruisers, three destroyers and four other naval vessels were either sunk or damaged. One hundred and sixty-four American aircraft were also destroyed. Most hadn’t even gotten off the ground. And 2,403 Americans, servicemen and civilians, were dead. Nothing like this had ever happened to the United States of America before.
On December 7, 1941, the Japanese bombed the United States naval base at Pearl Harbor. This bombing killed many Americans, destroyed one American battleship, and capsized another. A total of twelve ships were either sank or beached, and nine more were damaged. The attack also destroyed and damaged
The attack by the Japanese on the U.S. naval base at Pearl Harbor in Hawaii was during the time of World War II. The Japanese attack was a surprise to the U. S. because many Americans had been killed and injured. The Japan’s military hoped to cripple the United States Pacific Fleet in order to

The United States of America entered World War ii when Japan bombed Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. The attack on Pearl Harbor was when Japan bombed Pearl Harbor one of America's naval base. When Japan bombed Pearl Harbor it was a tragedy that forever impacted our nation.
Do you remember the infamous moment in history called the Bombing of Pearl Harbor? Forevermore, the Bombing of Pearl Harbor will remain a conflict that will be remembered for eons, decades, centuries, or even longer. Obviously, the American and Japanese Army forces joined in the war, where it took place in the Pearl Harbor, U.S. Naval Base PH (Pearl Harbor, Island of Oahu), and the Hawaiian Territory and began on 1941 December, 5th. Frankly, Franklin Delano Roosevelt has said this famous speech toward us that was pronounced, “Yesterday, December 7, 1941 — a date which will live in infamy — the United States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked by naval and air forces of the Empire of Japan.” Surprisingly, FDR made another quote to the Americans in order to not join the presence, “We must be the great arsenal of democracy. For us this is an emergency as serious as war itself. We must apply ourselves to our task with the same resolution, the same sense of urgency, the same spirit of patriotism and sacrifice as we would show were we at war.” FDR didn’t want the Americans to fight back against the Japanese, but because the Japanese were becoming more serious in bombing and started doing it on the Americans property, that caused the Americans to fight back.
December 7, 1941 was a day where everyone in the U.S was listening intently to the radios when the news informed everyone that Pearl Harbor, Hawaii was being attacked by the Japanese planes. it was a devastating day for Americans everywhere waiting on the edge of their seats for something of good news, but there wasn’t any. Pearl Harbor isn’t known for its beautiful scenery, but for the bombing the Japanese lead because of anger and power killing and wounding 3,000 civilians and soldiers. America and Japan did have hate for each other for many reasons, but what made the Japanese angry was President Franklin D Roosevelt cutting off their resources, Japan wanting to have the biggest strongest Naval force and FDR knowing head of time that Japan was on their
Shortly before 8am on Sunday 7 December 1941 , the first of two waves of Japanese aircraft launched a devastating attack on the U.S. Pacific Fleet, moored in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. The raid, which came with no warning and no declaration of war, destroyed four battleships, leaving an additional 4 damaged in merely two hours. The attack destroyed 188 US aircraft, killed more than 2,400 Americans, and injured another 1,200 . Although remembered as “the day that will live in infamy”, the exact reason behind the attack on Pearl Harbor still remains unknown. Some believe that the Japanese were galvanized by Germany to attack the United States because of the assumption that the United States would be unable to concentrate all of its resources toward the fight with Japan. Germany desired assistance in the fight during World War II and, because of that, nearly guaranteed the United States’ defeat if Japan attacked. On the other side, it is believed that the Japanese prompted the Pacific war with the attack on Pearl Harbor in order to eliminate their primary competitor for resources in the Pacific and fulfill its destiny of creating a “greater East Asian co-prosperity sphere” .
