Cell phones have become a major part of peoples lives and in modern society. Cell phones are current in society, adults to small children have cell phones. A debate on cell phones in school is occurring more and more. Do students deserve to have their cell phones for use during instruction time or school hours? Research states that cell phones are no benefit to students in school. Others claim to state that cell phones are in fact, beneficial to students and will not damage the learning environment for students. These arguments have been more plentiful in schools all over the country. Some schools have decided and ruled out cell phones, but other schools are still tied up in the debate. Cell phones will simply make it easier for students to cheat and be dishonest. Cell phones can distract and interrupt students and their class. In modern society, everyone pays attention to their cell phones and nothing else. Students are no exception to this, they will spring for their cell phones after every ring, vibrate, or notification. It would be very difficult for students to pay attention and learn. With text and social media, students would rather be occupied with their cell phones, then learning. Cell phones are major interruptions in class and to the students. For example, a student may have their phone set to silent mode, which is most likely, and it rings in the middle of class. In this situation, the cell phone will not only interrupt the student, but the student's entire class. A cell phone cannot just be a distraction and interruption to the student, but also can be an interruption and distraction to the classmates. If students are allowed to use their cell phones in class, they will use them to look at non educational, which another distraction. Another problem that comes with allowing cell phones to be used in school is cyber bullying. Cyber bullying occurs online, usually it happens on social media, text, or emails. Cyber bullying is when one person says hurtful things about an another person over the Internet. Bullying also occurs a lot in schools also. Cell phones would
First, cell phones cause students to do badly on their work. If they are focused on their phone instead of what they're learning, they will not know what to do. This leads to lousy grades on homework, daily work, and tests. Having lousy grades lead to failing classes. Failing classes does not look good to colleges. This ripple effect could cause some students to not get into the college of their choice and it all
Some can argue that cell phone use during school is highly uncivilized but it's extremely useful in many different ways and in different scenarios.Instead of viewing cellphones and other gadgets as negative additive distractions , we should view the positive side of celluar devices. Cell phones can help resolve issues and help make the school environment much easier, however do believe there should be restrictions , for instance not to use a phone while the teacher is having a discussion or teaching lesson. If a student can obey these rules and not use it in a disrespectful manner , then there should not be any issues. Cellular phones should be allowed in schools for threatening emergencies, to avoid double standards between teachers and students and most of all to help students with research purposes.
Cell phones are distracting in school and disrupt learning. Students should always be giving their teacher their undivided attention. Cell phones in school create problems and they affect students’ grades. Although some may claim these reasons to be true, they are undeniably wrong. The proponents of cell phones should not be allowed in school argue, “We know for a fact that the use of cell phones on school property around the country has led to a number of problems around safety.” This is wrong because cell phone use on school grounds is only beneficial to individuals on and off school property. Cell phones do not necessarily prevent problems, but they do help in times of emergencies. They promote safety in situations such as school shootings or hostage situations. The proponents of cell phones should not be allowed in school also argue “Student’s whose minds wander during a lecture or discussion may find the temptation of texting instead of listening hard to resist.” While this is true, it is up to the student to pay attention. However, texting instead of listening is the same as doodling and not listening, or playing on a school issued laptop even after being told to put it away. It is up to the student to restrain from texting in class. The more schools put an emphasis on no phones in school the more
Allowing students to have their cell phones out can allow them to be able to go on the internet and look up answers to a test or class work. They could text another student and ask them for answers. Also, allowing students to have cell phones in class, can make a chance for cyber bullying to happen. A student that may not be friends with another classmate could capture an embarrassing moment for the student and post it to allow all of his friends to see it. Students could video or take pictures of a teacher during class which could get the teacher in trouble. Allowing cellphones in class will more than likely just cause lying and
Thirdly, cell phones are just another item, and banning them makes them more irresistible to people, especially teenagers. "As a student, I understand that cell phones are distracting while a teacher is trying to help the students--but at the same time, I believe they become even more distracting to the class as a WHOLE when teachers make a huge deal out of trying to take a phone away or punish a student for having a phone out."(Answer.yahoo.com-2009)Cell phones could be one of the 5 distractions-talking, playing, throwing, devices, and physical actions. With cell phones you're making less distraction to the class because you’re not disturbing anyone but yourself and that’s a good
One reason why cell phones shouldn't be allowed in class is because students use cell phones to bully their fellow classmates or to bully a teacher on social media . A quote from "12 Problems Caused By Students With Phones" by Jon Akers says one reason why phones shouldn't be allowed is that there is "Bullying or harassing other
Today, we would like to discuss why cell phone use should be allowed while in school and how allowing cell phones during school hours can
One reason of why phones should not be allowed in school is because it causes too many distractions in class. Some children tend to forget to turn their phones of in class. Sometimes, theirs phone might ring, which causes the whole class to lose their concentration. They can also get in trouble for not following the rules. Students many sometimes use theirs phones to text during class time. They might text their friends or anybody else. For example, Snapchat. Snapchat is one of the most used world wide media in the world. Lots of children have those nowadays. Instagram Facebook, and Twitter are also some of the things that these teens use to text during class. Games cause distractions also. Many girls and boys play games in class instead of doing their work. That can cause their grades to fall dramatically.
Should cellphones be allowed in school? Well, this is a controversial topic. There's two sides to this argument and many parents and teachers demonize cell phone usage in school, parents complaint to teachers to ban cellphones, that their kid is using his phone too much and the teachers blindly follow suit. Without even looking at the advantages of having cellphones, for the sake of their jobs they just put the ban. This punishment hurts even those who can use their phones responsibly. Why should the people who can control themselves have to be punished because their are people who can't. After doing my research I’ve come up with 3 strong reasons as to why phones should be allowed in school. Now, I already know me ranting about cell phones won't have any influence over this decision of the district, the message will just fall into deaf ears. Here we go anyway, the first reason as to why phones should be allowed is that they prepare students for a real world job. I personally think cell phones help than hinder learning, and I hope you do too, but if you don't. Hopefully this essay can change your viewpoint on this age old debate.
Many teachers believe that cell phones don’t belong in a classroom because there are several disadvantages. An example maybe a student who uses a cell phone in class has no intension in listening or paying attention to the teacher. This student has a short attention span who cares about socializing more than his/her education. Cell phones can be very disruptive; they can invade people’s privacy and can also be used as harassment or bullying. The usage of cell phones is creating a huge problem particularly when they are used in school.
Examples to support this would be one, students could use them for languages like google translate or any other language and translation apps. Second we could use them to do homework or classwork outside since we cannot bring computers outside of the classroom, and during lunch you could finish late assignments. Third students can use phones to update homework and use calendars and reminders about assignments. Even though I agree with having cell phones in school I can see why people could disagree. For one cell phones can be a way to cheat and socialize during a test, but if we did have phones on during class there would probably be ground rules and teachers would pay very close attention. Also phones could be a distraction and students might have an urge to play a game or go on social media while a teacher isn't looking, but if this were ever to happen the student would probably have a punishment. Also during school students would have to close off other apps and wait till after school if the teacher didn't trust
First off, cell phones in school can be used as a learning tool. Many teachers think phones in class can be a disruption and ban use of phones.Teachers take advantage of teens who refuse to turn off their phone and put it away. Mia Dalta, a student from Mason High School says “ using technology in everyday life is not that new to us because we grew up using technology.” I believe she is correct to say this. We are all comfortable using cell phones because that is all most teens know is “technology”. The teachers are making class more interactive by using phones as clickers to answer questions, provide feedback on students progress, and also to collaborate on group projects and capture teacher's notes. This can be useful for teachers and students. While a student is working in a group the teacher can comment and the student can then work and be more efficient. I observed that when phones are out in class, most students are successful and more efficient. The best part is all the information we could ever need to be successful
The cons of having cellphones in schools is that they are distractions. Cell phones have twitter, snapchat, facebook, texting, tumblr, etc. In article #1 “Along with many applications available on a cell phone, an important one is that of texting. There is no guarantee that a student will not text during class hours.” When students text in class they are losing their concentration on their academics. Also when the students accidently leave there ringer on and get a phone call or text in class, it distracts the whole class. Cell phones in school is also a target for prank calls, inappropriate pictures and videos, using the internet to cheat on tests during class, and jealousy because some may
Cell phones can be very disruptive and distracting, especially during a class. In the blog, “Can Cell Phones Be Educational Tools?”, a student pointed out that with internet, students can go on their phones during class, pretending to be doing work. With these devices, it is very easy to hide what you’re doing and the teacher can never be 100% sure that their students are doing what they are supposed to do. If phones were allowed in the class, during tests students could use them to cheat by either looking up answers or texting another student. Cell phones are small, handheld objects that can easily be hidden. Any ringing or vibrating from texts or calls would disrupt the entire class, making it hard for them to actually learn. According to a poll conducted by Common Sense Media, 50% of teens feel that they are addicted to their phones and 80% check their phones hourly. If half of the teenagers ages 12-18 feel that they are addicted and more
Students should be permitted limited use of mobile phone while attending their schools. Not all students use their mobile or cellular phones while at school; many do. Not all students who use their cell phone in school are using them during class. Students and educational staff come down very hard on students for using cell phones during class session, in many cases, justifiably so. Yet, there are instances when mobile phone use during school is not a distraction or threat to the students' attention and education.
