APRIL 6 2016 Microsoft's Chabot experiment has been the uprising subject of controversy. The Chat bot, Tay was supposed to learn from young people on Twitter and post friendly emoji-filled tweets, however with only 16 hours in the real world turned her into a racist bigot. Allowing many people to draw lines between Tay's outburst in racist comments and artificial intelligence that is determined to overthrow humanity in sci-fi stories. According to a science officer, Jennifer Harrison, Tay is a reflection of how future artificial intelligence could go wrong, however she strongly believes that artificial intelligence can not be singularly held responsible, she claims that the biggest danger of future AI will be how its misused by humans.
Neil Postman, a firm protester against technology, begins his argument in The Judgement of Thamus with a parable about a king rejecting an inventor who incorporates writing into their society; the king, Thamus, is steadfast in his belief that writing’s future burdens will outweigh its immediate success. Postman argues that technological discoveries change the way we think, manipulating our culture and our understanding of the world. He states that the primary difference between computers and humans is the ability to self-learn - but what happens when the human race conquers that barrier with technology? Artificial Intelligence is often referred to as the "field I would most like to be in" by researchers in other sciences (semanticscholar.org). It is not only prominent in subfields like reasoning and logic, but also in precise tasks like playing chess, proving theorems, and diagnosing diseases. The short-term benefits of Artificial Intelligence depend on who controls it, while the long-term benefits of Artificial Intelligence depend on if we can control it at all. One example of this is when the stock market index had a quick, but massive crash, losing nearly one trillion dollars, which is “a prime example of the dangers of Artificial Intelligence manipulating stock” (Loubriel). Although human stockbrokers managed to shut down the system and prevent a complete economical crash, once superintelligence is achieved, there will be no way to terminate any AI processes. When it comes to using Artificial Intelligence, one should be able to recognize their limits in doing so. In the story Marionettes Inc, and the movie, Ex Machina, both mediums displayed a clear and concise message about Artificial Intelligence, that is, when you create or utilize an AI robot with human-like qualities, there is always a possibility that it may turn against their rightful owner or creator, and will ultimately lead to their downfall.
Microsoft's A.I hasn't been exactly hip with the Twitter crowd since it got its own account last week. Technology like LA is unknown, this is the main fear concerning weaponized Artificial Intelligence (AI).
In the book Neuromancer by William Gibson, the technology and violence shown by the people and AI demonstrate that with the progression and evolution of technology, the cruel nature of humans progresses and evolves with it, and vise versa. This shows that we should be weary and careful of letting our technologies evolve too fast until we depend on technology too much for bettering our lives and get controlled by AI 's for their own interests.
I, like many others, have seen countless big screen renditions of the fantastic premonitions of cataclysmic hostile robot takeovers or wholesale nuclear warfare due to AI, which sometimes appear to be terrifyingly realistic future possibilities. But humans are just as capable of causing this dystopian future-- the difference is that we focus on the tremendous good that humans can do rather than fixating on the potential dangers.

I chose to watch this TED Talk done by Sam Harris because the topic is one that was interesting to me. He is a neuroscientist and philosopher and the purpose of this speech was to bring awareness to people about the potential dangers we could face with artificial intelligence in the future. He talks about how as we keep progressing and creating better technology we will eventually create artificial intelligence that will surpass us, and likely destroy our society. He goes into a few different ways this could happen, and asks his audience to try to think more about the subject and how we can prevent our destruction.
