Challenges and Solutions for a Successful EHR Implementation Project

Abstract
Despite of the benefits of electronic health records in medical practices, some healthcare providers are reluctant to implement of this project due to many barriers and limitations such as usability, technical ability, cost constraints, standardization limitations, and resistance of change. The main barriers to adoption of EHR systems for healthcare providers and strategies of the successful implementation project have been identified from various healthcare articles and research studies. It is important to recognize challenges and solutions for a successful EHR implementation which can help providers use EHR systems for improving quality of patient care. The aim of this paper is to understand barriers to EHR implementation, to identify solutions and to plan for a successful implementation project.

Introduction
An Electronic Health Record (EHR) refers to patient centered record that allows access instantly and securely to healthcare providers. EHR system is designed to accurately store patient clinical data including patient’s past medical history, allergies, diagnoses, medications, treatment plans, laboratory test results, etc and displays a broader picture of a patient care.
