In The Crucible by Arthur Miller, John Proctor, the protagonist, is a farmer in his middle thirties. The author gives little to no detailed physical description of him, but from Proctor’s speech, we can still picture him as a strong and powerful man who is able to keep every situation under the control, the kind of personality which earns him deep respect and even fear from the people in town. On the other hand, Abigail Williams, the antagonist, plays an inferior role as an orphan who has no social status in a place like Salem. Over the course of the play, John Proctor is absolutely awakened and transformed by Abigail Williams. In the end, he overcomes the crucible by releasing himself from his guilt of
Burris Ewell is from Part One of the book To Kill a Mockingbird written by Harper Lee. Burris comes from the shunned family known as the Ewells, who are well known to live in dumps. He gives no attention to his appearance described by Scout Finch to be, “the filthiest human I had ever seen” (Lee 35). Scout later describes his appearance as, “his neck dark gray, the backs of his hands rusty, and his fingernails were black deep to the quick. He peered […] from fist-sized clean space on his face” (Lee 35). Burris then can be thought of someone who lives like an animal with his father not caring. Burris overall is an ignorant and rude person from Maycomb County without a family in a way that does not teach any manners to him or his siblings.
Arthur Bauer was hanging out with his friend Erik Fisher. He knew that he would be unpopular if he did not obey Erik. Recently, Arthur even killed a man named Luiz Cruz. He always hated to carry out these evil plans, but he felt forced to do it to protect his status. The first thing that Erik got Arthur to do was to make fun of the death of his old friend, Mike Costello. “Ha! Do you remember the picture of his face! Priceless!” Erik laughed. “Pretty soon we’ll get to see the close up!”
In the introduction of the book, he goes through his own life and what he has gone through to get where he is in the present. He is a journalist turned novelist, and met many people and challenges on his way. The introduction is very technical with not much of a storyline like most fiction novels. In many instances, he alludes to the face of India as being happy and prosperous in opposition to the normal lives that most Indian people lead.
Abigail Williams is the most manipulative character in The Crucible. Her disposition allows her to threaten, lie, and act to get her way. After the girls were caught in the forest dancing, singing, and participating in charms, Abigail threatens all the girls to say and go along with the witchcraft accusations. If they said anything she would deal with them, like she dealt with the chicken. The purpose she started all this was to get Elizabeth Proctor, John Proctor’s wife, dead. Abigail wanted to be Abigail Proctor, she wanted to marry him, but Elizabeth was in the way. This was one step closer to getting Elizabeth executed and one step closer for Abigail to be John’s wife. The final step into getting the court convinced that Elizabeth was compacted with the devil was when Abigail was

Rivalry can be playful and good natured, but it isn’t always this way. Rivalry and competition can help individuals grow as a person, and help them to develop into mature adults. Competition can be a motivator to do better. It can also lead to vast destruction, and severed friendships. Rivalry in this case is unhealthy, the overall outcome of the story proves this. Finny and Gene didn’t really have a ‘healthy’ rivalry or competition. Their relationship wasn’t healthy, and it eventually leads to the death of Finny. In “A Separate Piece” by John Knowles the rivalry between two friends turns unhealthy very quickly. The competition and rivalry between the two friends is destructive, it destroys their friendship,
Do you remember when you were a specific age or have you discovered a time in your life? Where you looked at individuals and saw them for who they are and what or who they could be? It’s like you never bothered to see someone else purpose in life. So you start to question yourself for the reasoning of their presence. Think about a time in your life when someone just wanted to see the good in you and wanted you to live up to your full potential. Sylvia’s character in, “The Lesson” by Toni Cade Bambara represents Sylvia's transitioning from her childhood to adulthood. It is motivated by Miss Moore's Lesson where the process of the growth is demonstrated through Sylvia’s life experiences which later makes her realize she needs to grow up.
