n my opinion, I believe that they are both intelligent, but in different ways. Carter James is really calm, learned everything on his own, and actually thinks on what he is going to say. On like Edward Cole, he’s educated, and doesn’t care on what he has to say. They both have great minds, but expressed differently. Edward is based of on money which leads to him not caring. I feel like they are both smart, but Carter is more smart because he learned a lot of things on his own and he just loved history. History leads to a lot of knowledge because you get to learn about many thing that happened in the past. He’s more of a self-reliance man because he relies on himself to get past anything. Edward Cole is more of a guy who was educated, but often shown like he wasn't. Edward has lots of money which often depends on. Due to money, he doesn’t really care about others, but himself. Money is the outcome of his education, but that all he has in his life. At the beginning of the movie, could you label Edward cole a bully? Why? I could label Edward Cole as a bully, because he didn’t care on what he said to others. He just expressed the way he wanted and didn’t care on what others thought of it. He often disrespect and showed this kind of rudeness to others, he made statements like “kiss my ass” and other rude comments. He would just blur anything out without carrying. Edward Cole doesn’t really cope with anyone, so he lets his mind speak out loud. He didn’t care about his thoughts
Edward Scissorhands explores how difficult it can be to fit in. To what extent do you agree?
The parents, Judy and Ed Boone, of Christopher surely have their differences. Though in some ways they do appear to be similar. The two have displayed selfish characters. We've discovered in the book, miss Judy Boone has abs an affair with her neighbors husband and starts a life with him. You can find out on page 60, when Christopher and Mrs. Alexander talk about Christopher’s mother.
The film, Edward Scissor Hands, by Tim burton is a modern day fairy-tale, which is an entertaining film. However, the film is a much deeper and far richer film which includes many very important themes and messages for the audience. Individuality is extremely important when it comes to the character Edward. Edward and Kim show how much love is valued in their neighbourhood. Individual growth plays a part of all characters in the film and how much people can change in a small amount of time.
One of his strengths is that he is strong and he just loves to get in trouble. He hates to be called champ. Cole has a very strong will. He has had some experience with fighting, he fought a lot of kids in school, he recently just beat up a kid named Petter. Cole hates his parents and is afraid of his father. Apparently his father beats him when he does something wrong, or gets in trouble. So far we don't know all Coles weaknesses but he hates being touched, called names, and hates getting told on. On page 15 of Spirit Bear it says why cole doesn't want to be called champ, it says, “”quit calling me champ,” cole mumbled “that's not my
Throughout history, pride and determination have motivated people to do amazing things. In The Devil in the White City, Erik Larson proves that pride and determination aided the creation of The World’s Columbian Exposition.
The novel, East of Eden, by John Steinbeck references to the bible quite a bit when describing some of the characters. Steinbeck refers to the story of Cain and Abel, two brothers who lived in peace until Cain slaughtered Abel. One day the two boys were to offer sacrifices to god; Abel offers his best lamb and Cain offers grain to god. God prefers Abel’s gift over Cain’s and in a jealous fit of anger Cain murders Abel. After this God comes to talk to Cain about what he had just done and in doing so he banishes Cain to “the land of Nod, east of Eden”(Genesis 4:16). Steinbeck uses a few Cain like characters throughout the novel to illustrate the reality of humanity; jealousy and favorability shapes our society and the way people act. There is no place to escape one's baser nature besides death’s home; steinbeck shows this through Cal Trask, Charles Trask, and Tom Hamilton.
The film ‘Edward Scissorhands’ by Tim Burton is a story about a lonely boy with a unique disability: scissor hands, it follows Edward as he experiences life outside of his isolated home and through his hardships of dealing with prejudice and people treating him differently. It also follows him when he makes judgments of others wrongly and shows the consequences to both parties from those decisions made on them.
Tim Burton, the director of Edward Scissorhands, draws inspiration for his work from fairytales and children’s stories. He has always had an affinity for the darker elements of these stories, which is made evident in the film Edward Scissorhands. The film’s main character is a man named Edward who has scissors for hands. Later, it is shown that he was a metal figure brought to life by his inventor, an elderly man who dies before he is able to give Edward human hands. Edward lives in a mansion on a hill on the edge of town, all alone, until a woman named Peg finds him and bring him to live with her family. Edward immediately develops an attraction to Peg’s daughter, Kim, though she has a boyfriend. Towards the end of the film, Kim tells Edward that she loves him, and Edward seems to be completed. However, Edward struggles to conform to society, and eventually is forced by the members of the community to return to his mansion, isolated from any human interaction. The film combines a make-believe character, as often found in children’s books, with elements of a horror film, like suspicion and violence. The film features several flashbacks throughout that elaborate on Edward’s past and show how he came to be. Burton uses these flashbacks to grow the audience’s understanding of Edward, explain events, and emphasize themes.
Cole Matthews is a fifteen-year old teenager from Minneapolis. He is a baby-faced person with dirty blonde hair, and he is considered big for his age. Cole is a generally rude person and he doesn't care what other people think about him. For example, on page three in the book Touching Spirit Bear states, “Cole Matthews knelt defiantly…” Cole might not seem
The first reason they are both smart and achieve outstanding results. Smart can help people solve problems easier and faster. Sometimes, some smart people think the adventure is not so hard to be done. Chris McCandless was a clever student. “In the third grade, after receiving a high score on a standardized achievement test, Chris was placed in an accelerated program for gifted students” (Krakauer 99). “Chris was a high achiever in almost everything that caught his fancy. Academically he brought home A’s with little effort” (101). His mother found that he had a talent of being a capitalist. For example,
Bullying is when a person or group frequently harms someone who is weaker or more vulnerable then themselves. They do this by means of physical, verbal, or mental abuse. Bullies can be male, female, young or old. The nature of a bully depends on many factors such as sex, age, and past experiences. Depending on the nature of the bully, their actions can have many negative effects on others. Bullies display many characteristics such as aggression, rivalry, and competitive behavior. Bullying occurs in many different places, a good example is in the novel The Lord of the Flies. Jack, the antagonist in this novel, displays many characteristics of a bully. Many children have been
Have you read Wonder or Summer ball? They are both amazing books. In the story Wonder, by R.J. Palacio, Julian is a big bully and in the story Summer ball, by Mike Lupica, Lamar is also a big bully. Both Lamar and Julian are big bullies because they bully the main character, and not only the main character but also other characters. The first reason I think they are both bullies is because they both bully the main character in the book they are in.
He has a bad personality. He's rude to adults and he has a mentality that very one should be scared of him.On page 7 it tells how he beat up a boy named Peter.”After school ,Cole cornered Peter outside in the parking lot. With anger that
Throughout John Steinbeck’s East of Eden, a common theme is the character’s internal battle between choosing the path of good over the path of evil. Primarily, the evil trait applies to the characters whose names begin with ‘C’, as a homage to Cain, and Cal is no exception. His naturally evil nature causes him to develop feelings of hatred toward himself, because he fears that he will end up making the wrong decisions. However, he does seem fond of Aron and tends to put him first to show his compassion. Due to his own insecurities about which path he should take, Cal actually resents his brother.
John Hughes's The Breakfast Club is one of film history’s most iconic and renowned movies and is a cornerstone of 1980’s pop-culture. The Breakfast Club showcases five unique high school students who all unfortunately find themselves imprisoned in an all-day Saturday detention. The students go as following: Claire (a pretty girl), Brian (the nerd), John (the bad boy), Andrew (an athlete), and Allison (the strange, goth girl). These students come from very different backgrounds and social settings which proves to spark many conflicts between them as well as with their supervisor Mr. Vernon. But through this conflict they find similarities between themselves, and after spending nine hours locked up together, they find resolution within themselves and with their new friends. Psychology can explain why this happened as well as what caused other events to occur. This paper will examine four different psychological phenomena: stereotypes, conformity/normative social influence, ingroup versus outgroup/superordinate goals, and the various causes of attraction.
