The Thread that Runs So True is about the experiences of one man by the name of Jesse Stuart. He tells you of when he was an educator in rural Kentucky in the early 1900’s. As an educator, Stuart learned the values of getting the students involved in activities and competitions using the form of games or play. As a principal he learned that it takes the parents and members of the community to be involved in with the learning environment in the student’s home and in their community and school. When he was a superintendent, he found out the negative impacts on teaching and learning of wrong interference, lack of money, and of course the political conflicts always seemed to get in the way of educating the students. Mr. Stuart wanted for all students to have a great education by good and dedicated teachers. By having well taught teachers in the classrooms, the students would thrive in the best ways toward their education. He tells of how he handles situations and how situations handled him. The Thread that Runs So True full of characters. We have the main character which is Jesse Stuart, and then we have several supporting characters throughout the whole story. Two characters that really warmed my heart were the old man and woman, Uncle Amos and Aunt Effie. I loved how genuine they were. These people were good to Mr. Stuart and treated him like he was their own son. Jesse Stuart went to live with Uncle Amos and Aunt Effie after he left the home of the Conway’s. He ended up milking their cows to help them out. When it came time for him to pay for his room and board, they only charged him 12.00. The sad thing is that when he left they played music and danced for him, so he would remember them. Whoever would forget Uncle Amos and Aunt Effie. Another great supporting character in this book is Helen Kirsten. She was a teacher/ librarian from New York City. She was odd and different. She was hired to be a librarian and a part time English teacher. She ended up being a full time English teacher. Mr. Stuart really liked her because she influenced the students to write with passion and poetry. He was so impressed with her that if she wanted to stay she had a job. Mr. Stuart
Mr. Rose presents many descriptive vignettes of teaching professionals in his life who have influenced him both positively and negatively and whom he has retained for emulation or distinction. These characters in his life include teachers from grammar school throughout his college experience. All have in one way or another left a considerable imprint on his recollection of school and learning.
Darcy is the main character, Jamie is Darcy’s sister and Hakeem is Darcy’s boyfriend/ ex boyfriend, Tarah is her best friend. Copper is Tarah’s boyfriend and Liselle and Brain are brother and sister. Now you know everybody in the book. Every character in the book plays a very special part in it. They make the plot special and unique in its own way.

In chapter 5, Reforming America’s Schools, I learned many things that affect me as an educator. An important fact that interests me was that there are four goals that schools should follow. The first one is academic, including a broad array of knowledge and intellectual skills. The second one is vocational, aimed at readiness for the world of work and economic responsibilities. The third one is social and civic, including skills and behavior for participating in a complex democratic society. The fourth one is personal, including the development of individual talent and self-expression. This will affect me as an educator so that I can follow and do my best to complete these goals. Now I am aware of what should be done in a classroom.
The most admirable character in the book is Katie. She shows kindness to all, even the prostitutes who live near their apartment. When she works in the cafeteria, the other workers come to her with their problems. She remains gentle and concerned with doing the right thing, even though life for her is a constant round of work. Rhonda Haus started her career in the secondary school system where she has seen and been a part of many changes. She gave a unique perspective into Regina Public Schools and highlight the systems specific goals along with their successes and failures. Underlining it all was her message to put the students and to provide the best education for all kids. These goals were measurable and attainable. Kaylan Gazda spoke about the elementary school system and her experience in a variety of grades and schools. Her time in an experimental classroom and in another country provided many challenges. However, those challenges and obstacles made her a better teacher for her current job in a split classroom. Jordan McFarlan was able to provide insight in process of building a new program in a high school from the ground up. He was able to list challenges he faced and ways to respond to those challenges. Jesamy Unger presented what is was it is like to be a student taking education and the lessons she learned throughout her journey. She gave us useful advice for our field experiences and the tip that not everything you need to know about being a teacher will be taught in school. As principal of TWH, I feel it is vital to keep the urgency focused on academics. It is my belief that if we set students up for challenging and engaging classroom instruction, discipline issues will start to lessen. However, my teachers will feel supported and respected, and that will be communicated regularly to our students and school community. “…leaders treat others fairly, equitably, and with dignity and respect—and they establish the expectation that others in the school community act in a similar manner” (Murphy, 2006).
Despite the many challenges I face daily, remembering that I significantly influence the lives of each my students will help me in becoming a better teacher leader. Reason and Reason (2011) states that a mission will not come to fruition without ownership and ownership cannot be stimulated without consistently reminding everyone why they come to work each day. It is my mission every day to transform lives in my classroom and school environment. I have chosen a career in education because I believe that it is one of the most important functions performed in our culture. I believe that teachers individually and collectively have the ability to not only change the world but to improve it.
Some of these characters play a major role in the plot while others represent a group of people that is discriminated, because of race or gender. George and Lennie are the main characters, which makes them most important to the book’s content. Their friendship and dream about having an own farm are most valuable for the story, since the plot is based on these factors. Crooks and Curley’s wife are on the other hand just as important as the previous characters, but they are more important for the linking between the book and The Great Depression than to the actual plot. These characters reflect how the society looked like in the past, which creates a perception of reality. For example, Curley’s wife has no name, which signalize her powerlessness and position on the ranch. This character does also represent a segment of American society that is discriminated against because of gender. Crooks symbolizes people that is discriminated because of race. Twisted Threads by Kaylen McFarren is a story about an assassin, Marito. Marito has last mission to complete to acquire her freedom from the life of being a sadistic, hostile assassin. But the mission is not death. Having the victim wandering in the corridors of a luxurious ship, Marito has only 10 days to murder the victim. It all becomes a jumbled mess when people start getting killed by an anonymous person. The journey is twisted up even more when someone is hungry for Mario's blood because of a secret that Marito has no idea of.
Although I have had many different types of teachers, there are two that stick out more than any others. The first was my third and sixth grade teacher. She was the best teacher I ever had. The second was my seventh grade teacher. She was the worst I think a student could have had. Both, these teachers had very different teaching styles and very different out looks on teaching. To be an effective teacher the teacher must respect the student and be willing to go the extra mile to help the students learn all they can. In this paper, I will discuss the effectiveness of these two teachers and how their teaching styles differed.
The principal must have knowledge and understanding of effective communication strategies when collaborating with staff, educators, and students (O 'Connor & Jackson, 2017). The teacher’s morale is ultimately impacted by the principal 's open-line of communication; therefore, the school environment affects how the principal is perceived by the teachers and staff morale can influence student learning. However, the principal should focus on developing a collaborative relationship among the teachers, which foster new ways of exchanging view points and ideas (Whyte & Karabon, 2016). The principal plays a major role in how effective the vision or goals are followed by subordinates. In other words, how the perception of the principal ethical and values are aligned with the teachers. Hence, collaboration in schools is, the result of teachers and principals working together for the end results, which are student’s high achievement in learning. When the skillful principals and the sagacious educators “walk the talk” effective leadership and the strategic guidance is a must in the collaborative community of succeed.
