1. Describe the skills or attributes you believe are necessary to be an outstanding teacher.
As a graduate of Ball State University, I have lived and learned about the skills and attributes necessary to be an outstanding teacher. A key component of my elementary education program was the Interstate Teacher Assessment and Support Consortium Principles or InTASC principles. These principles lay out what I believe to make up an outstanding teacher.
An outstanding teacher understands “how learners grow and develop, recognizing that patterns of learning and development vary individually within and across the cognitive, linguistic, social, emotional, and physical areas, and designs and implements developmentally appropriate and challenging learning experiences.” Every child is different. With these differences, it is important to understand, grasp, and apply developmental knowledge when teaching in the classroom. Developmental appropriateness should be assessed on a case-by-case basis. It is the teacher's role and responsibility to know the methods and patterns of learning in the classroom and to know that these methods and patterns are different for each child. This core understanding supports the teacher so they can go on to design meaningful and authentic instruction.
An outstanding teacher uses “an understanding of individual differences and diverse cultures and communities to ensure inclusive learning environments that enable each learner to meet high standards. Every
In the book, Ten Traits of Highly Effective Principals: From good to Great Performance, McEwan discusses the facilitator in chapter 4 (2003). She describes the facilitator as a leader with abilities to build strong relationships with parents, teachers, and students. One principal in the book, Bill, thought the students would learn more if their teachers are understanding, caring, and genuine as opposed with students who were taught by teachers that were not. This idea was tested and their findings were placed in a book entitled, Kids Don’t Learn From People They Don’t Like (Aspey & Roebuck, 1977). The results of the study described the book perfectly.
Outstanding teachers posses the following skills and or attributes: The ability to adapt to any changes that may occur, The cognitive skills to think quickly and logically, The virtue of patience to handle the repeating of information for those students who may not catch on quickly and finally The passion of teaching others to be better learners and the ability to listen and analyze the emotional, physical, and mental state of the students . Truly good educators remember that the image they exude is the example that is set forth for their students. A teacher provides high expectations for the students as well as his or her self to creates a positive atmosphere.
In my personal opinion, I believe that there could be many skills and attributes that could be redeemed necessary in order for a person to be considered an outstanding teacher. Like for instance an outstanding teacher would be known for portraying diverse qualities like passion, leadership, classroom management and content knowledge. A teacher has many roles throughout the school day, therefore requires various qualities that would redeem them as an outstanding educator. Throughout the school day, outstanding teachers are known for being able to accommodate the academic, social, and emotional needs of all of their students.
A teacher needs to be flexible and adaptable due to schedule changes, adapting lessons, gaining new students, adapting to various behaviors and various academic levels of students. A teacher needs to be assertive when advocating for the needs of their students, themselves and for their peers. To be outstanding you have to have compassion towards your peers, your students and their families. A teacher always need to be prepared for their day including designing lessons, creating materials, writing IEP's, knowing students levels, handling any behavior, that anything can happen and always have extra work. A teacher should be able to Multitask, you have to wear lots of hats in this field such as a mother figure, nurse, friend, disciplinarian, enemy,
While there are many ways to be an outstanding teacher, every high-quality teacher should, in my opinion, have these skills and dispositions:
A fellow educator would hear these answers as examples of the teacher’s ability to engage students in every lesson, her desire for all students to succeed, and her competence in subject matter. Although an outstanding educator exudes many other characteristics, these three qualities are essential for one to be considered an outstanding, high-quality teacher.
I believe there are many skills and attributes that are necessary to an outstanding teacher; one’s ability to keep students engaged, the desire to see all students achieve, and knowledge of the content taught are attributes of an outstanding educator.
The teacher uses the understanding of differences in individuals, cultures, and communities to ensure inclusive learning environments that enable each learner to meet rigorous standards.
I learned all the important aspects that a teacher needs to have to be excellent, from the passion to work with the children to how organize the environment to facilitate the learning; also how to collaborate with families, colleagues, to research and increase constantly own knowledge personally and professionally. How to use strategies and create a curriculum that will keep children engaged and challenged in their thinking.
There are several important qualities that any outstanding educator or teacher should have. Any educator in any situation should gain the respect of the students by first giving their students respect. It is an endless cycle and it would make life easy. The teacher should also have a great rapporter with the students. It lets them know that the teachers does care about them and that is invaluable, children do pick on emotions very quickly.
What makes a teacher outstanding goes far beyond their content area knowledge. They will wear many hats throughout the academic year, acting not only as a teacher, but also a mentor, cheerleader, and coach. An outstanding teacher is approachable and tolerant, they are their not only to teach, but to build valuable relationships with the students, parents, and the community. Additionally, they are life-long learners who instill the love for learning into their students while continuing to grow themselves. A superior teacher will continue to grow learning not only from peers but their students as well. While every student may not love Shakespeare, an outstanding teacher will ensure students make text-to-self connections needed to keep them engaged.
The teacher uses understanding of individual differences and diverse cultures and communities to ensure inclusive learning environments that enable each learner to meet high standards.
Just because someone is a great nurse, does not mean they are a great nursing educator. I believe the greatest qualities of an outstanding educator are passion, patience, flexibility, and the willingness for personal and professional growth.
All teachers should act in a appropriate way with everyone they meet, this includes their learners, colleagues, parents, and other professionals, this means that the teacher will be competent, ethical, will be trustworthy, reliable and committed. Teachers should strive to put their learners first, be approachable, and keep up to date with their own personal development, and
Teaching is a difficult occupation. Teachers play an important part in training children, teenagers… So, a good teacher must have some special qualities. They are: knowledge, creation, confidence, empathy, sense of humor and passion.
