The second beast And behold, another beast, a second one, resembling a bear. And it was raised up on one side, and three ribs were in its mouth between its teeth; and thus they said to it, ‘Arise, devour much meat!’ Characteristics of the beast. Regarding the second beast, we should consider the following: • The beast resembled a bear – that is it looked like a bear and it had the character of a bear. • It was raised up on one side. • Three ribs were in its mouth between its teeth. • It was commanded to arise and devour much meat. A second one, resembling a bear - That is, after the lion had disappeared. The bear was a well known animal found in Media, a mountainous, cold and rough country, covered with woods. Its character is very much different from the lion or any other animal for that matter. There must have been a very good reason why the bear was chosen to represent the second kingdom – the one that would succeed the lion-kingdom. Bochart[4] says the bear is distinguished mainly for two things, that is its cunningness and its ferocity. Aristotle[5] said that the bear is a greedy, silly and foolhardy animal. In Hosea 13:8 God said to Israel: “I will encounter them like a bear robbed of her cubs, and I will tear open their chests.” Writers on the natures of beasts say that none is more savage than a she bear, when bereaved of her whelps [Jerome].[6] Another example of the bear's character is found in 2 Sa. 17:8 "You know that your father and his men are mighty men, and that they are enraged, like a bear robbed of her cubs in the field.” According to the great King Solomon, there is only one thing worse than a bear - “Let a man meet a bear robbed of her cubs rather than a fool in his folly” (Pro. 17:12). The characteristics of the second kingdom, therefore, would be things such as ferocity, roughness, fierceness in war, especially when provoked. One would expect to find that its actions would be less noble than that of the first kingdom. It would be, in other words, more severe in its treatment of those that would stand up against it. This kingdom would apply a mixture of brutality and savage cunning in its dealings with other nations. And it was raised up on one side - The

I believe a good reader is what makes a good writer. But because I lost my interest in reading, I’ve struggled with writing throughout the years. It wasn’t that I had trouble learning new skills but because I was pushed away from what I wanted to learn, so I decided to pursue other interests. Despite being eager to learn, my writing suffered due to my lack of interest in reading, however my skills in writing have increased as my drive to read has rekindled.
In 1997, while bow hunting in the Ocala National Forest. I saw two large male bears eating grubs and one of them caught and begun to eat a Cotton Tail rabbit. They were approximately ½ mile from each other. It seemed like the very second that the bear with the rabbit tore it apart, I saw the other bear lift his nose to the air and was at a full run and was to the other bear within a minute. The first bear was bigger, but the second bear seemed to be hungrier and quickly took the remains of the rabbit away and out of sight. Thinking that it was a waste of time to remain in the area I returned to my jeep to head back to camp and get some lunch for myself. Upon reaching the logging road that lead to my jeep, I found large bear prints within my

This is a character profile of Cole Matthews, the main character in “Touching Spirit Bear.”
The man thought that something was knelling and hunched over on the side of the rode. When the car slowed down, the driver took a closer look at the figure on the passenger side of the car. The driver was no more than six feet away from the beast of bray. The sighting lasted for about 45 seconds and then stated to clearly saw a beast with grayish, brown hair, fangs and pointed ears. His face was long and snouty, like a wolf. The man saw how big and powerful the chest was on the beast. The arms of the beast was strange. The arms were jointed like a man would be and there was something in his palms, completely like any animal that he had ever heard of. The arms were muscular, and the creature seemed to have human-like fingers with claws on the ends. The driver did not notice any sort of tail but did say that its back legs were behind it, like a person would be if kneeling.
When Cole Mathews was sent to the remote Alaskan island he viewed it as a game, but it isn’t. Upon arrival Cole started off by burning down his shelter by using the white gas for his lantern and a match, which doesn’t serve him well in the long run. He has also encountered the Spirit Bear many times in the first few days and he even created weapons to try to kill it. After trying to throw a homemade spear at the Spirit Bear from point blank a lopsided match occurs between Cole and the suddenly ferocious bear. The Spirit Bear beats Cole to the edge of death and leaves Cole desperate to survive on the ground. Cole fights to survive by scrounging up anything he can find to eat, he starts by eating worms from the wet soil and slowly progresses.
Ben Mikaelsen's self- realization novel Touching Spirit Bear is about a boy named Cole. Cole is a 15-year-old, whom others see as angry and evil. They do not understand Cole is only using his anger in the wrong way. The only people who understand Cole are two men, Garvey and Edwin. They recognize the pain of having anger. Cole is banished to a remote island in Alaska after he attacks a boy named Peter sending him to the hospital. Cole changes on the island helping himself and others along his quest to self-realization. A lesson Cole learns throughout the story is anger never leaves, but it shapes one for the good or the bad; it is all a choice.
Following the introduction of the statement, a figure that can be identified with the likes of Jesus or even God himself, finds one of His creations in a desert, “In the desert, I saw a creature, naked, beastial”. The creature is alone, in a secluded
When most people hear the word black bear, they think about the cute little cubs, running around and playing with each other, and not what makes them such intriguing animals, considering they are only found in North America, and are the smallest of the bear family.
From behind her, Hulga heard a loud grunt. She turned and found herself face to face with a gargantuan bear. Weakened and tired from her journey, Hulga looked in the bear’s eyes with a sense of hopelessness. Certain the bear would kill her, Hulga thought about how rude she was toward her mother and regretted that she hadn't appreciated her mother’s love for her. While she thought, she could feel the bear’s damp nose inspect her face before it suddenly turned and walked away.
What if the beast was not an animal, but reflected us within our actions and words.Sometimes something we are scared of isn't an object or even a living thing. It could be ourselfs without us not even knowing what we become.Power and imagination can sometimes lead to very bad endings. In the book Lord of the flies By William Golding this allegory talks about kids on an island discovering the true beast. Also in the t.v series The Twilight Zone: “Monsters Due On Maple Street.” By Rod Serling, this sci-fi episode of many is about a whole street getting crazy, pointing fingers at one another because they think that one of them is an alien, and are there to take them away.
He moved quickly and quietly as a fox over the fresh powder from the blizzard, dodging trees and fallen branches protruding from the ground. The air was crisp and the figure could see his breath as he ran through the shrouded forest. His heart was racing, for he feared for his own life as he pursued this large beast. As he ran, the man noticed something, it was an animal that had been slaughtered by the beast. He examined the corpse closely, the stench of decay was very prominent as he got closer. He determined that the monster was close by, so he continued to follow the tracks, this time even more cautiously and considerably slower than before. He came to a clearing where a river was surging forth. This river was very wide and the pace it
