Advocacy
There are many different topics of advocacy one could focus on. While researching different topics, I looked into activities and other information regarding advocacy ideas. I felt most compelled reading about child hunger and poverty statistics. This information was almost overwhelming and I felt as if I needed to know more in order to advocate for those who need it or for those who do not know about this topic. With this, I was hoping inform others of the topic such as parents and family members. I was also looking to help the young children in my room learn about this topic, appropriately.
Being an advocate, I was looking to spread the word on child hunger and “feed the fight” against child hunger. I wanted to explain the facts,

I learned about advocating for a cause as well as getting others involved in this cause. As for my classroom, I worked with my students. We created “plates of nutritious food from ChooseMyPlate.Gov. I allowed the children to create their plates and talk about how they liked these foods we were learning about. We talked briefly about how “some friends do have these foods.” I then told them that is why we have the food in the classroom (food drive donations). This is for those who do not have food at home or need more food cause they are hungry. The kids were excited to help create the posters and the food drive box. They asked more questions about the food “other friends do have.” Those in my class were wondering if they had “cookies or ice cream.” I told them we have to work together to help those who do not have these foods. They were excited. Some continued to draw pictures of their favorite foods later that day. The children wanted to give them their drawings. I was happy to try to help the children understand this topic on an appropriate level. I felt nervous at first, trying to explain it. But the children really enjoyed talking about helping …show more content…
I am confident in my ability to work professionally and with others in order to advocate for a specific cause. I was able to communicate with parents, families, children, and other professionals in my field. I became more involved with my professional career as well. I will be working with the food drive in the future. I also feel confident in my ability to express topics and communicate with parents as a way of advocating on a professional level as well. Professionals in Early Childhood education can advocate for a variety of topics from child hunger, poverty to developmental domains and school activities. There are many different ways to get involved with Early Childhood Education. This project has changed my views on my personal advocacy ability. After completing this project, I feel as though I have new interest and abilities in advocating for those in need, more importantly in the Early Childhood Education field. I am excited to see what the future holds in regards to my own advocacy in Early Childhood
Identify the issue – advocacy begins with a problem or issue this could be environment, economic, social and other factors
By completing this module you will learn about the limits to the advocacy role and
Preschool teachers have not been given the credit they deserve, with lots of people over looking their importance. Being a preschool teacher is more than just watching a couple of kids for a couple of hours. This field requires a lot preparation and behind the scene work that put into the job, so it really is not as easy as it may seem. Preschool could possibly shape the rest of their academic lives. At this level of school the children learn their basic building blocks for learning that they will use forever. That leaves parents with big expectations for the teacher. And for the teacher, they will have to set goals, have a plan to reach those goals, and for the most part
The United States is known as the wealthiest country in the world. But, there are many people that can't afford to buy food for their families, many are also homeless. “While hunger affects people of all ages, it's particularly devastating for children even short-term episodes of hunger can cause lasting damage."(“Child Nutrition Programs") Child hunger in the United States is caused by poverty, unemployment, food insecurity, and food shortage; however there are many solutions to this problem like FRAC strategies, food banks, summer feeding programs, and backpack feeding programs.
A. How many of you are worried about where your next meal will come from? Are you unsure of how you’re going to purchase next week’s groceries or what you will be feeding your children for dinner tonight? This probably isn’t something most of you think about from day to day. When you are hungry, you eat. It’s easy for you to grab a sandwich, order a pizza, or run through the drive thru when you are on the go. However, there are many families, not just in other countries, but here in the United States as well, that are going hungry every day. According to kidshealth.org, a child dies from malnutrition and related causes every 6 seconds.
I later realized that I should try to get some of my friends and classmates involved too. l started out my junior year. One thing our teacher tried to teach us was the acts of random kindness. After practicing random acts of kindness throughout the school, I mentioned the idea of volunteering a couple of hours with the Angel Tree. I also encouraged our school’s Student Council to help. The club adopted two angels. By doing so, this gave the students the desire to want to volunteer again the following year. This year, we had Beta club, student council and two dual credit classes, a total of 40-50 students, volunteer at the warehouse for 2 days. Some even came back during Christmas Break and volunteered at the Distribution Day. Not only is it important to lead and serve others, but one should also encourage those around him or her to serve others as
As an early childhood educator I believe each child is an exceptional unique individual that needs to be provided a secure and loving environment in which they are able to grow emotionally, physically, socially and intellectually. My longing is to help each and every one of my students explore their creativity, understand their emotions and learn self-regulation along with social skills and the best of academics that I can possibly provide. The role I have as an educator is to guide my students while allowing them to explore their curiosities about the world around them and academics to blossom while teaching respect and caring for others.
Imagine it's the 30th century. Imagine every person in the us obese and sick. Imagine the doctor's office filled with people just because of food. Now imagine the rate we would be losing people just because of diabetes. Now if every kid were to grow up with a healthy childhood then this could be avoided. Using the Healthy Hunger Free Kids Act is a great way to get your kids on track with a healthier life. It improves kids nutrition and focuses on kids weight and obesity. It also makes life easier for thoses who are less fortunate and can't afford healthy food.
Through working with 0-2 year olds it has provided me with opportunities and experience to acknowledge children’s needs by finding ways to communicate through body language. By having opportunities to extend by knowledge via different courses has allowed me to extend my knowledge. Although I have gained a
It was difficult to read that countless millions of federal dollars and many of our country's most successful efforts to halt the spread of childhood hunger and starvation have recently been withdrawn. And as a result, this problem of childhood hunger is not getting better but is actually getting worse. The most recent estimates compiled by the USDA in 1999 indicate that 36.2 million Americans live in food-insecure households, which means that their access to adequate and safe food is limited or uncertain. This too is very disturbing information.
Most people in the United States today are unaware of the increasing numbers of child hunger throughout the country. Today, a staggering one in five kids struggle with hunger in our own country (Francisco 18). Not only does it affect their concentration and grades in school, but also their overall health. Over 1.02 billion people in the world are considered to be malnourished, and hunger and malnutrition is the leading cause of child deaths, which accounts for 6 million children each year (Nah and Chau). When most people think of children and families going hungry, they think that it is just a problem in other countries. However, there is an increasing amount of children and their families in North Carolina
The NAEYC statement on developmental practice indicates change and continuity and change in the early childhood education field is vital due to the fact that their main commitment is excellence and equity. Nevertheless, all new knowledge gained over time has been advanced and increased. This means that with understanding, it has allowed us to revise and refine ideas for promoting children's development and learning. With developmentally appropriate practice, meeting and enabling the children are required. This means that teachers should get to know them well and push them to reach goals that may be a challenge but are achievable for them.
The thought was by working with children at an early age it would provide them with the tools and encouragement to embrace life and find meaning for their own lives. This is a worthy challenge, however now I see the need to seek an active role on the macro level. Assisting people in embracing and cultivating their personal skills and qualities is exciting but without equal access and fair opportunity these same children could be doomed to an inevitable fate of being stuck in the system. There must be a change in people’s mindset regarding genuine poverty and the true struggle of American citizens, from the forsaken Native American reservations to the old mining towns in rural areas of American to the impoverished citizens in both urban and suburban America. These changes will not manifest until policies and laws are changed. It can only happen when people unite with a solid strategy to dismantle the personal kingdoms created by corporate America and the government, replacing them with a commitment to implementing programs and services that eliminate some of the inequities of the
This web page's goal is to introduce the visitor to the problem of world hunger and provide ways to access more information through books and other web sites. The page was created as a final project for an Environmental History class held at the University of Vermont spring semester 2000.
Throughout my course work I have learned how essential Early Childhood Education is to the proper growth and development of young children. Without quality care young children can be limited socially, emotionally, and cognitively. Personally, my reasons for choosing ECE as my field of study has matured into responding to the need to provide quality professionals that produce quality care to every child regardless of ethnicity, ability, culture, or gender. However, looking back on my prior experiences I have worked with children in all capacities within my community. I have coached soccer of various ages, taught Sunday School, ran preteen Bible studies, and taught character building classes for young girls. Even though these experiences motivated me to enter this field, I now see child development from a totally different perspective.
