I request permission for your child to participate in a child observation project that will be used for my class project in the upcoming weeks. All information will be confidential, and alias names will be used. Please let me share some information with you about a child observation assessment and what will be involved with this process in the classroom. The purpose of this assessment will be to select the appropriate curriculum for your son, identify what he has already learned, and to determine if any special needs need to be met. I will be observing your son in his natural surroundings in the early childhood classroom by doing so this provides a familiar place where the he is comfortable in exploring the various areas of the classroom,
Jackson appeared withdrawn, and was somewhat embarrassed before stating that he did not do well in school. Jackson knows that he can perform better in school. When the other children began to tease Jackson, he was ready to fight some of them. This is typical behavior for Jackson, and is also a pattern of disorganized attachment. Children with a disorganized pattern in infancy tend to show disturbed patterns of relationships, subsequently, their relationships with peers can often be characterized by a “fight or flight” pattern of alternate aggression and withdrawal. Jackson’s coping skills when upset, threatened, or embarrassed is fight, unless the person is physically bigger than him. If this is the case, Jackson uses flight to cope, and seeks his grandmother for protection and comfort.
Throughout this course of study in Child Development 04, Observation & Assessment, I choose to be observed a child enrolled in a State Infant/Toddler Program School called Galen Clark Preschool, and the child will be presented as D. D is a 4 years old boy. The main idea of this portfolio is to observe and assess child D’s development and growth by using the measure of the DRDP. The DRDP (2015) focuses on the child’s behavior, knowledge, and skills. To capture a child’s behavior, the DRDP incorporates observation in natural settings. The pediatric observation assignment allows me to observe not only about the children but also about myself. While doing this assignment, I have observed myself that I can understand the theories better when I can able to apply them practically. The developmental theories I have learned in class are reflected in this process of observation and documentation. Also, the observation assessment tool, Hawaii Early Learning Checklist helped me to observe specifically about developmental signs of the child of the assigned age range. Together with the knowledge I already have and the assist of HELP Checklist, I documented the skills, and patterns of development of the 30-months-old-preschooler-boy Isaac.

This study is intended to document my observation of a child between the ages of 2-5. The small child I observed is a 4 years old male. Family arrangements consist of the mother being the primary caregiver of her son. Since the child is not old enough to consent to my amateur study, I have received permission from the mother and father. The method used in this clinical report is a naturistic observation in which I went to the family’s household where I recorded his behavior for an hour.
I went to a family day care that my sister’s friend mother works at. I made sure to get permission from her and the parents of the child I observed. I arrived at the place around 12 p.m., I saw two caregivers and three children. There were two girls and one boy, one was a 1-year-old girl. The other girl was 3 and the boy was 4 years old. I observed a 4-year-old boy who is Hispanic/Latino with short black hair and light brown eyes. He has a light skin color, loose ear lobes and had casual clothes (gray shirt, blue jeans and normal sneakers). I asked the caregiver if she knew his weight and height, she said that he is 38 inches tall and weighed 32 pounds. It was my first time meeting him so I was surprised by how clam, but upbeat he was. I did get one child out of three who was anxious of me, the rest were mostly curious about me. He is bilingual, he spoke mostly English with me, but Spanish with the caregiver. He
Child development is an amazing thing to watch in the way that children interact with one another and how they perceive the world that surrounds. While doing our research of child development we began to observe a group of kids ranging the ages 1 – 12. During these observations we noticed traits such as attachment, comfort, and love. In early April, I traveled to Wautoma, Wisconsin to observe a fourth grade student that attends Parkside Middle School. I observed a nine year-old male student during the first three hours of his school day. Within these three hours he attended his daily classroom morning meeting, followed by two electives; physical education and keyboarding. This seemed to be the less structured part of the day and during this time he tended to act out and seek attention. Examples of this would be talking out of turn during the share time in his morning meeting, refusing to stand and say the national anthem, and continuously making different noises during the teachers lessons. All children are different in their unique way. The goal of this assignment was to observe different children in an uninterrupted environment. Although all the children observed were the same age, they all acted differently during their observation. The differences in the way we react to different situations are what make us human. These differences can be explained through the theories that different psychologist have developed over the years. Some children react better to things like praise from a teacher or being able to be creative in the activities that they are participating in.
Subject “Chris” is a 7 year old middle class Caucasian male. Observation is taking place in the child’s home over the course of two separate afternoons. Chris is a friendly and well spoken child who is small for his age. Chris is the youngest child in his family and both observations take place while his siblings are home. In each case one or both parents are absent.
For this project, I observed my mother's preschool class and the three children which she baby-sits on weekends. Most of the kids that are in the preschool class were three years old, but there was one five year old. The kids I helped baby-sit were two twin three year old girls, and one five year old.
At the snack table “L” was sitting and eating cereal. And “A” was playing with the stuffed animal. “L” got up from the chair and grabbed the toy from “A” and threw the toy across the classroom. “A” started to cry. The teacher saw what happened and went over to them. And she said to ”L” is throwing a good thing. And she made “L” go pick the toy up and bring it to “A”.
