In the beginning, (according to Chinese Mythology) the heavens and earth were one. The universe was a big black egg and after 18,000 years it split. The light part floated up and became the heaven and the turbid matter became the earth. In heaven King Guo Xin (King in charge of Earth) hated King Fang. He announced that whoever cut off and brought him the head of King Fang could marry his daughter, the princess. King Guo Xin’s dog, Pan Gu, heard of the news and cut off the head of King Fang then, he brought it to King Guo Xin. King Guo Xin ordered that Pan Gu got some fresh meat, but he didn’t eat it. He only slept for three days. King Guo Xin was confused and asked Pan Gu if he was doing this because he wanted to marry the princess. Pan Gu …show more content…
Chaos first produced Gaia (Earth). Then Gaia produced Ouranos (Heaven) and the two of them together produced the first generation of Titians. In this generation there were six boys and six girls making twelve total. A titan from the first generation (Hyperion) produced Selene (the moon), Eos (the dawn), and Helios (the sun). Another titian from the first generation (Lapetus) produced Ephimetheus, Prometheus, Atlas, and more. All of these titans procreated together to make gods and goddesses. Rhea and her brother Cronus (also titans) produced to get six (out of the twelve) Olympians. Cronus ate five of his children out of fear that they would one day over power him. Rhea (pregnant with the sixth child) feared that he would do the same to her last baby so her parents helped her go to Crete where she had baby Zeus and hid him in a cave. Rhea returned home and made Cronus think he was eating Zeus, when really she had just wrapped a stone in a blanket and fed it to him. Years later when Zeus was a grown man, he came to Mount Olympus to start a war against his father, but before doing so he made Cronus coughed back up his siblings and together they fought. After winning the war, Zeus became god of the sky and ruler over the
It all started with Uranus and Gaea. They were the first God and Goddess. Gaea is the Goddess of the Earth. Uranus is the God of sky. Another name that refer to Gaea is Mother Earth. Uranus and Gaea First children are called the titans. They had 6 titans, which are boys. They also had 6 titanesses, which are girls. The titan had ridiculous amount of strength. One of the titans was named Cronus. Uranus and Gaea had 3 cyclops children. There names were Lightning, Thunder, and Thunderbolt. The cyclopes are strong smiths. Then Uranus and Gaea had a 3 generation of kids, which were 3 sons. They had 50 heads & 100 strong arms. Uranus put the cyclops and 3rd generation of children into Tartarus. Gaea told her Titan kids to help her and kill Uranus for sending there other kids into Tartarus. Gaea told her children, who ever chooses to kill there father get the title lord of the universe and also free his siblings. Cronus said he would, but his father fled before he got the chance.
Zeus was the child of the Titans, Cronus and Rhea, and was the youngest of all his siblings. Cronus , Zeus’ father, had been warned that one of his children would overthrow him. Cronus knew the consequences, for he had overthrown his father, Uranus. To prevent this from
Both Kojiki and Greek mythologies describe common belief in the creation of the world, in which gods give birth to another to form the world. In Kojiki, two of the seven gods who came into existence, Izanagi and Izanami give birth to many nature deities, creating the world. But because Izanami gives birth to too many deities, she dies while giving birth to the fire deity. In result of her death, enraged Izanagi kills the fire deity. In contrast, Greek myth describes the creation of the world with the four gods who came to existences, Gaea (earth) Chaos, Tartarus (Hell), and then Eros. Gaea asexually gives birth to Uranus (Sky) and marries her son. She then bears three types of gods; the Titans, the Cyclopes, and the Hecathonchires. However, Uranus repels at the monstrous creatures and sends Cyclopes and Hecatonchires down to Tartarus (Hell). Frustrated by Uranus’s action, Gaea forges the first sickle, gives it to her youngest son Cronos, and have him punish his father, Uranus. Once Uranus returns to make love to Gaea, Cronos emasculates him. Here we see the similarities in the creation of the world by birth and death of God by the hands of another god with fury.
Zeus was birthed by the Titans Cronus, the god of time, and Rhea, the goddess of female fertility. He was the youngest of six siblings, which were all consumed by his father, who out of his fear of one of his children overthrowing him, “swallowed every child Rhea…[had given] birth to” (Gods, 2017). He was able to grow up without his father devouring him since his mother and Gaia had tricked Cronus into believing
Out of Chaos, came Earth and Sky, and the very first gods. In this story, life came from nothingness-a void. From the Void there then came Darkness and Night. From Night came the Light and then Day. Earth, named Gaia, brought about Sky, known as Uranus, and then after lying with Sky, she birthed Ocean, along with the giants and Cyclopes, and immortals. Hesiod's story is similar to the Bible in that it describes children falling from grace and having to deal with the consequences and fallout. Also like the Bible, where Eve is the cause of the fall, it is a female-the "mother" who causes the same problem in the Theogeny. This mother gets together with Chornus, her son, who cut his father Sky's insides out of his own body. In the Bible, the Father has great love for his creation, but in Hesiod's story, the father hates his children, who he called the Titans. The Titans were the parents of the Greek gods of Mount Olympus, thus beginning the line of gods that rose from chaos. There is a similarity, though, in the hatred of the father of the Theogeny and the rebellion of the children that stemmed from this feeling, and the great flood of the Bible and the Epic of Gilgamesh, in which the children were punished for their disobedience by an angry Father or
An origin story is an account of how a culture, a people, or a fictional character came to be. Many of these cultures have their own ideas of how the universe was created. For example, it is written in the Jewish bible that God created the heavens and the earth. This is the origin story from the beliefs of the Jewish people. Chinese and Greek Origin stories are very different, but are slightly similar as well.

In the beginnings only Chaos existed, then from there on Gaea, the earth mother, came into existence. Then she willed for a man to accompany her, and then Ouranos suddenly appeared. They got married and had twelve kids, the titans. Then she had kids again but they were ugly! She loved them, the problem was Ouranos did not. He got mad and threw them in the depths of tartarus. When Gaea herd she stopped dead and threw a temper tantrum. Then she could not bottle up her feelings any more. She swore revenge while her titan kids felt bad for her. Then it it was time for her revenge. Kronos, the smallest and most power hungry volunteered to do the dirty work, but he had a plan. Gaea and Ouranos had dinner together and suddenly Kronos appeared
Heras paents were two gods named Cronus and Rhea. After living in fear of one of his children growing up to displace him, just as he had done to his own father, he decided to swallow them shortly after birth. Besides the monarchy politics revealed by the story of Yu, the myth also shows what marriages are like in the early ancient Chinese society. “After Yu had toiled for thirty years he had reached the age when, according to Confucian tradition, it was proper to take a wife.” (p88 Christie, Anthony) Yu met his wife by following a prophecy that lead to sovereignty. Yu’s wife Nu-chiao turned into a stone when she is pregnant. After nine months of transformation a boy Chhi was born. Unlike Chinese feudal tradition after Qin dynasty, a man as great as Yu only has one wife and one child. It shows that monogamy is the dominant culture during Yu’s time.
In the beginning, the universe was a black egg where heaven and earth were mixed together, and in this egg was contained Pangu. He felt suffocated, so he cracked the egg with a broadax, and the light, clear part of the egg floated up to form Heaven while the cold, heavy part stayed down and formed Earth. Pangu stood in the middle, and he and the egg's two parts grew and grew until he was nine million li in height.

That is until Zeus came along.
