When you play a wind instrument you have to place your mouth in a certain way and blow a ton air. You have to blow your air as straight as possible, almost like a laser beam, through the instrument to make a good sound.
Band and choir are very different but not as much as you think. The best part for both choir and band is hearing the finished product. For the concerts both choir and band sound great. After spending a little time with the choir or band, you start feeling like everybody is one big family. Both of these musical activities require a lot of practice and skill, but you are always trying to blend your voice or instrument with the whole ensemble to make it sound better.
These musical differences are what help others become who
Austin Peay State University has over 100 organizations on campus. Within those organizations countless showcases and performance are held weekly for the student population. During this semester two popular performances help were the Generation of Disciples Gospel Choir’s showcase and the Footloose Musical help by the theatre and dance department. Each organization displayed different genres and styles of music. G.O.D gospel choir dedicated their show to a pop style while the Footloose cast exhibited music in the genre of jazz and pop mixed. As an attendee of both performances I have to say I enjoyed the musical better. Footloose was produced in 1984 and modernized in 1998. The music was constructed by two music creators named Tom Snow and
Like any stringed instrument the player must be able to easily adjust the height of the strings, tune their instrument for pitch, and know how to check and adjust the pegs. They must also know how to change the bridge of the instrument and what the effects of changing the bridge will have on the music quality and tone.
As a High School Senior, I can look back and say that marching band requires as much effort as any sport. Spending hours in the blazing hot sun learning how to keep your knee up high and march correctly. Spending twice as long in the band room playing the same song over and over until it's right and until you memorize it as your teeth hurts and lips become numb. Learning how to push, how to chant, march high, and give it all you got when you think there's nothing left. It requires you to expect more of yourself, to want to do well and succeed.
I have truly loved the two years, and counting, that I have spent participating in the Phoenix Girls Chorus, PGC. In PGC there are five different levels of choir. From least to most experienced the choir levels are: Melodia, Harmonia, Dolce, Bella, and Cantabile. Last year and the year before I was in the Dolce choir and this year I promoted to Bella. In order to promote to another choir you must complete all the theory book requirements and master a special skill, such as sight reading.
Marching band is a great activity. I get to have a lot of fun while performing for marching band. I get to work hard for an amazing goal. Marching band is place I can feel really accepted.
The fundamentals of performing between both schools have more in common than the practices and rehearsals, it is just more intense in high school. While in eighth grade show choir we had one big long mash up song full of about three separate songs all by the same person. In high school there are five independent songs each by different artists with various styles too. On the other hand, the choreo involved does have a great deal of correlation. In high school during each song there are partner and individual sections, as well as parts in which focus more on the guys than the girls, and vice versa. This
Marching band isn't just a group of kids finally getting outside for once to run around a football field and blare random notes out of their instruments or spin flags. It's not just an activity or a way to pass the time. It’s not about getting all the medals and trophies or making it to State. It's more important than that. Marching band is a family that brings people together and helps people to grow.
I participate in marching and concert band. As for concert band I have participated in it for 3 years, and i have only been in marching band for half a year.I enjoy being in both ensembles because it gives me a chance to make beautiful music and connect with my fellow band members. Most of the reason I’m even at where I am is because of my bad instructor Mr.Barz.
I have been in choir four all four years of highschool and I became a Choral Union Officer my junior year. It was a tough decision to take this role because at the time, I was also the PHS Dance Team Captain. Being a leader in two huge and important things in my life was hard, but choosing to lead one was the toughest decision I had to make. The schedules highly overlapped and I was forced to pick one or the other. I stepped down from being the captain of the dance team so I could focus on being an officer for choir. Of course stepping down was devastating, but I do not regret choosing choir. My junior year was the most eye opening year for me, where being a choral leader not only allowed me to become a better chorister, but a better leader
I have been involved in music for as long as I can remember. I sing, play the clarinet in the band and I am learning to play the piano. I am a section leader in choir and band, and I have a lot of knowledge about music theory and choral music. Music is a big part of who I am, and that is why I chose this topic as my project. I also plan to pursue this as a career in the near future, and I feel that this project will help me to prepare for the many requirements this career holds.
There’s a bigger song emerging from the music wing this year, but even though the women’s choir has more than doubled from the 36 girls in the fall of 2012 to the 82 girls enrolled this fall, choir director Elliot Kranz said that teaching that many girls at one time isn’t any different than teaching any other ensemble. There are just more girls.
I have been involved with band since I was in middle school. Throughout the years I have played many instruments, but I played tenor saxophone the most. Band put me in several leadership roles in high school. I was section leader for two years, drum major for one year, and jazz band lead player. Each one of these gave me good lessons, but being drum major was not only the most challenging but also the most rewarding. Being a drum major
Flute players also have to have more control through their breathing. Since they don’t have a reed they have to control how much air they let out and keep it at the same tempo throughout the entire piece. That’s not to say that playing a saxophone is any easier. More of the focus goes on what the player is doing with their lips for saxophones. Since they have reeds they have a little area where the air will flow through, so players have to make sure that they don’t allow ay air to seep out of their because the smallest mistake will leave them sounding very out of tune or not make any sound at
Music is something that everybody can relate to and feel. In any honor choir that I have been to, I always hear that, "Music is an international language." It's true, because anyone can relate to music based on the chords, notes, and energy of the piece. This winter I went down to the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks and sang in their honor choir for high school students. We sang a piece called "Lullaby" by Joe Miller which is about
This school year I did something new by trying to do band for the first time. In band I play the trumpet. I have to use a school instrument, because it is really expensive to rent a ammo instrument having to pay each month. My band class is my 4th period, and we stay in there for 55 minutes. I really wished that I did not pick band, because it is really boring and we don’t get a lot of stuff also everybody gets in trouble all the time. In this semester it is kind of fun because we are going to be out of school very soon. What’s the most favorite part about band is We get to play new songs, and that we get to play majors and minors. What’s the most terrible part about band is waiting for people to get ready and pay attention, and also people
