Mankind has shown an interest toward the existence of a higher being since the beginning of our time. All around the world, people formed religions and adapted ideas from other races. The Abrahamic religions were born in the Middle East and they are Christianity, Judaism, and Islam. I will be discussing the faith traditions and cultures of Christianity and Judaism. Why did a split occur between Christianity and Judaism? Why were they unable to compromise and become one faith? How are they alike? How are they different? Christianity: the religion began after the persecution and death of Jesus of Nazareth in 30 A.D. The Greek root of the word Christianity directly translates to “the anointed” (Comparison Table). Christian denominations include Orthodox, Protestant, and Roman Catholic. There are many sects but those three are the main branches. Christianity is based all around forgiveness. They believe that Jesus and God are merciful and that mankind were born sinners – “original sin” (BBC Religions). The death of Jesus Christ was the birth of the Christian faith. People are considered Christians in morality as long as they repent to the Lord and live through his teachings (other than the physical act of baptism). Christians believe that it is never too late to repent, no matter what deed was done and if repentance occurred within a person’s last breath. Eternal happiness in heaven is achieved by living a Christian life. The idea of Satan in their faith is very prominent as it
Often times in our society we take one another for granted and treat each other with cruelty. Some of the times our best communication with one another is constant war, fights, and brutality to one another. Religion on the other gives us the opportunity to set aside our differences and come together as one. In order to do that we must believe religion works and set all concerns to the god or gods. Religions have become beneficial because it make things certain but also to put our uncertainty to the superior. Which means god will provide. Another way you or others can see this being affective is putting trust in the god and god’s. Back in the Early Middle Ages moving to the Dark Middle Ages, life was brutal and not choosing what religion you belong to makes it even harder for the individual. You had to believe and set aside your difference with religion.
Christianity, Judaism, and Islam all have similar origins, development, beliefs, and sacred texts. Contrary to popular belief all three of these religions share more common ground than one would think. The differences are present of course, but the similarities help one understand where all three were derived from and why. All of the religions share the common ground as to the knowledge of Jesus Christ, the belief of monotheism, and “ethical standards required social justice for individuals and for the community” (144). Judaism is the oldest religion out of the three, then falls Christianity, and lastly Islam.
All three religions believe and worship the same God but they do it in different ways. Judaism happens to be the oldest religion today but they don’t have an official creed. They aim to teach you about God, the Messiah, human beings, and the universe which makes Jewish beliefs very important to them. But it is important to understand that being Jewish is more of a race and culture than it is a religion. Some Jewish people may have no interest in Judaism. Judaism has some similar beliefs with Islam and Christianity but they are more different then similar. Islam is the second largest religion in the world and they have 1.2 billion adherents. All of the adherents know about the “five pillars “of Islam which represent the framework for a responsible and good life. Islamic people believe that they are here on earth as God’s servants to create a moral social order. They believe it’s all a test for humans to prove if they can choose from right and wrong and make good decisions. There isn’t a certain sin not to do, it’s just trying not to fall under the temptations of all the bad things in life and God will be with you as long as you are attempting to be good and stay on the correct path. Christianity shows their faith differently than the other 2, they like to do baptisms when you are a baby or when you become Christian and become a believer. They like to have Sunday gatherings and read scriptures from the bible and have group prayer and singing.
Religion is a set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature, and purpose of the universe. In today’s society there are many religious lifestyles people stand by. Popular ones consist of Christianity, Hinduism, Judaism, Islam, and Buddhism. When looking at Christianity and Buddhism it is easy to identify some major differences. For instance, both the religions were started and founded by different people and in dissimilar ways. A second one would be what they believe in; number of deities, and what they base their knowledge around. The people of this religion believe Jesus, born of a virgin mother, and died on the cross for our sins, and resurrected three days later. Followers of Christ believe that Christ was God’s son and the true Messiah, sent to earth to free us from our sins through salvation. Achievement of Salvation by believing in Christ’s life, death, and resurrection. When a person reaches salvation, they are safe from the grasp Hell and will spend their afterlife in heaven with God. The Holy Bible, a book created by Jesus’s followers, explains Jesus’s life and teachings. All Christians believe the Holy
The term “myth” is often associated with stories that are considered to be false. In the context of religion, however, the term, “myth”, describes any of the tales that are accepted by a given religion, and these stories are usually treated as historical fact by followers. The Abrahamic religions would likely agree that most of the myths in their sacred texts are indeed historical facts. There are parallels between the three Abrahamic religions: Judaism, Christianity, and Islam that should be recognised. The similarities are greatly apparent in the myths that are described within their holy books: the Torah, the Bible, and the Quran, respectively. This paper will compare the myths of creation; the great flood; the prophets: Abraham, Moses, Jesus and Muhammad; and the afterlife as they are viewed by the three religions to show that their individual myths have more similarities than differences.
Many times people got into fights, end friendships, and become even violence because of some disagreements on matters of faith or religious. Sometimes knowing more about other religions might help people avoid conflicts between each other, and eventually might lead to living together peacefully. The most famous three religions -People of the book- are Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. Judaism is the oldest organized religion in the world; however, it only has 14 million followers around the world most of them centered in North America and Israel. Christianity, came after Judaism and have two billion believers around the world, and that’s about one third of the world population. Finally, Islam came after Judaism and Christianity. Even though Islam came afterwards, it spread quickly around the world, and today there are around 1.3 billion Muslims around the world. There are many differences between the two religions, but when a person puts them side by side there are three major differences that pop out at them. Those differences are, who each religion worships, the sacred text of the two, and finally the idea of life after death or the afterlife.
