In the world we live in today we are exposed to many religions. Two of the many are Buddhism and Christianity. Although they are religions worshiped by many they are very different. Such as, what is worshipped, how to achieve salvation and the thought of suffering. These are some of the aspects that make these two religions very different.
In the Christian religion, it is believed there is an omnipotent being known as the Lord. Also, in this religion Jesus, the son of God, is the foundation of Christianity. “faith itself was belief in Jesus as the Messiah and Son of God.” (Cunningham, Oakley &..) We pray for them to guide us through life. Both of them are divine in the eyes of the church and many others.
In the Buddhist faith, it is believed that Siddhartha, the Buddha, was not divine but a regular human being. Buddhism is more about the Buddha’s teachings and living lives based on them. It is when one is at their lowest points when they realize all the good there is, the good God gave us. Jesus also suffered as it is told in the Bible and Apostle’s Creed when He was crucified. “I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate.” It was after this that he went to Heaven. So, like the Son of God Christians too suffer to earn their place in Heaven. Buddhism is quite the opposite. Suffering is avoided in this faith. The founder of Buddhism “Siddhartha… wanted to find out the cause of suffering and how it could be ended.” (Marchant,4) The Buddha found that desire was suffering. Once one didn’t desire anything there would be no more suffering. That is how the followers of the Buddhist faith live by and when they become enlightened with no desire is when they may reach
