Ethics is the moral principles that govern a person's behavior or the conducting of an activity. It is the moral values that a person believes in. The way that a person interacts with others. The golden rule of treating others how you would like to be treated. Having good ethics is a basis for having a successful business.

First, it is important to define ethics and how its components play an extensive role in our society. The term ethics is defined as “Moral principles that govern a person 's behaviour or the conducting of an activity.” (Oxford); ethical decisions are the ones that per se determine whether or not murder is wrong. What are ethics? Why is it important? Ethics can be defined as “the discipline dealing with what is good and bad and with moral duty and obligation; or “a set of moral principles (Merriam-Webster, 2017)”. The reason ethics is important is because it gives us a basic understanding the difference between concepts and situations that are considered right or wrong. We as humans have learned a set of values and beliefs that tell us what is considered right and wrong, there are times when situations change and the standard of ethics changes, but generally it goes according to our beliefs and what society considers to be right and wrong.

According to the New Oxford American Dictionary, ethics is defined as “moral principles that govern a person’s or group’s behavior.” Therefore, in an ideal world, ethics should play the ultimate role when making a decision. If ethics are the principles which guides one’s behavior then, ideally, all decisions should be made entirely based on ethics. Unfortunately, such is not always the case.

Ethics, also know as moral philosophy, is a branch of philosophy concerned with the study of questions of right and wrong and how we ought to live. Ethics involves making moral judgements about what is right and wrong, good or bad. Right and wrong are qualities or moral judgements we assign in action and conduct. Ethics proves us with a way to make more choices when we are uncertain about what do in a situation involving moral issues.

Ethics refers to a system of moral standards that guide the decision for human conduct of what is right and wrong based on everyday life situations, usually in terms rights, obligations, benefits, fairness, or virtue. Ethics is used as a formal guideline for conducting business in order to minimize pain to the greater number of people as a whole. The principles of ethics come from the knowledge and understanding of the word of God, the Bible. It tells us how we ought to think and behave toward one another considering first, how we want to be treated. Limiting our understanding of climate change to primarily the human causes and effects disregards a major tenant of the ecological values of Catholic Social Teaching: creation is good. When focusing on the human side of climate change we often ignore that all of creation requires our aid. Creation is a blanket term that encompasses literally everything, including humans, plants, animals, inanimate natural objects, and human-made goods. All of creation’s components are negatively affected by climate change. However, this approach tends to be very overwhelming. It is nearly impossible to worry about and advocate for all of creation at once. Thus a more specific view is needed, and an anthropocentric one is easily applicable. When we consider the effects climate change has on humans and work to mitigate them, we are indeed responding to many of creations needs but through a less oppressively overwhelming lens. For example, an clear advocacy path in trying to help those affected by constant flooding would be to correct institutions that lead to rising temperatures and the melting of the polar ice. Polar bears are seen starving to death as they tread on the foreign iceless land. The earth’s ice, most commonly seen in Antarctica, begins to melt due to the rise in temperatures, rising sea levels as well. High temperatures affect the dry lands of California as deadly wildfires are produced throughout the North and South and have also taken the lives of people. All of these dire issues and more have gone viral through news broadcasting and the culprit of these devestations leads back to climate change. However, the source of climate change is ultimately the human race. The movie earned several awards including an academy award for best documentary and gore later received a noble peace prize. The movie discussed several different topics of great concern to global warming; such as permafrost, climbs in temperature, extinction of species, drought, and fatigue to name a few. Four writers in five different articles discussed the three topics of greenhouse gases, climate change, and causes of global warming. These writers are writer and scholar Bill McKibben in “Think Again: Climate Change” and “How Close to catastrophe”; William J. Broad, writer for the New York Times in “From a Rapt audience, a call to cool the hype”; writer for the Cleveland Plain Dealer, Kevin O’Brien, in “Global Warming? I won’t be losing any sleep over it”; and Alan Zarembo, staff writer for the the Los Angeles Times, in “Game over on global warming?” All though the articles explain some different topics from one another, only one of them disagree with gore on the causes for global warming being humans, they all agree that there will be impacts to the environment, and all of them believe that greenhouse gases are one of the primary causes for global warming.

Ethics are moral principles or values that govern the conduct of an individual or a group.It is not a burden to bear, but a prudent and effective guide which furthers life and success. Ethics are important not only in business but in academics and society as well because it is an essential part of the foundation on which a civilized society is built.
