Climate change is an environmental and business issue that has gained more and more attention from society nowadays. The meaning of it seems to be not as easy as its name indicates which is merely a difference in climate. NASA (2011) reports, “Climate change, therefore, is a change in the typical or average weather of a region or city… Climate change is also a change in Earth 's overall climate. This could be a change in Earth 's average temperature, for example.” Therefore, climate change in our world has various effects in our life, which, for example, like extreme weather, global warming, higher sea-level and etc., do really affect our daily life and production process. Understanding what the climate change is, and why these changes …show more content…
Business plays a vitally important role in this issue because it has been a major contributor to carbon in the atmosphere. Though climate change could be caused by thousands of reasons, like natural factors, however, scientists think that the recent phenomenon of global warming can 't be explained by nature alone. “Most scientists say it 's very likely that most of the warming since the mid-1900s is due to the burning of coal, oil and gas...This burning adds heat-trapping gases, like carbon dioxide, into the air. These gases are called greenhouse gases” (NASA, 2011). The industrial production which needs tons of fuels and other raw materials burned is an enormous source of greenhouse gases which might be the most core factor of causing climate change.
Business is also influenced by climate change in return which is changing the landscape of business. Businesses that depend on water, like skiing industry, bottled spring water industry, the oil industry and etc., are affected by climate change because these industries need a constant and steady supply of water including different forms, for instance, snow. “Climate is an essential resource for tourism, and especially for the beach, nature, and winter sport tourism segments. Changing climate and weather patterns at tourist destinations and tourist
According to the IPCC (2007), climate change refers to a change in the state of the climate that can be identified (e.g. using statistical tests) by changes in the mean and the variability of its properties, and that persists for an extended period, typically decades or longer. It refers to any change in climate over time, whether due to natural variability or as a result of human activity. Studies suggest that the global climate has been warming and will probably continue to do so. Thus complicated process drives an array of effects, from distinct events like extreme weather to long-term impacts that vary by location, intensity,
Climate change is the altering of ordinary weather patterns around the globe because of excessive greenhouse gas emissions, particularly carbon dioxide
Climate change is a real phenomenon that is occurring throughout the world and causing problems that stress and cause a variety of problems and issues in society. Some effects of climate change are rising sea levels, increased average temperatures, loss of ice sheet cover, hotter more recurrent droughts and changes in precipitation. Climate change and land degradation have affected the Sahel region of Africa by causing a decrease in arable land and this will lead to conflict and cause millions to become climate change refugees.
When you hear the words “climate change” what comes to mind? Probably weather and the changes. Many of us watch the news or use an app on our cellphones/electronic devices to keep an eye on the weather for the day, week, or even the month. But, there is actually a difference between weather and climate. Weather is actually “the changes we see and feel outside from day to day. It might rain one day and be sunny the next. Weather also changes from place to place” (Dunbar, 2014). Whereas “climate is the usual weather of a place. Climate can be different for different seasons. Different places can have different climates” (Dunbar, 2014). This paper will focus on the ins and outs of climate change, specifically focusing on what climate change
To understand climate change you first have to know what climate change is. Climate change is a change in the statistical distribution of weather patterns when that change lasts for an extended period of time. Another thing you must know is how climate change is effecting where we live. For example, in some regions the sea levels will increase and some will decrease. Droughts will increase compatible to how California right now if not worse. This being if the heat continues to increase at this rate heat stroke will become a serious
Climate change is a challenge facing our planet right now. Long-term effects may develop as a result, causing threats to natural resources, human health, and the economy. The concern is rising with the amount of carbon emissions and greenhouse gases in our delicate atmosphere.
Climate change can be defined as a long-term change in weather environments that include wind, precipitation, and temperature. The direct result of climate change can lead to a change in weather patterns that can last for extended periods of time (Climate Change Summary). Climate change may also be referred to as a change in average weather conditions, which could lead to an increase or decrease in extreme weather events. Recently climate change has been recognized as a problem around the world, while other groups believe climate change is made up of fictional data. Climate change is an ongoing problem in the scientific community, but society has not fully accepted the principles of climate change.
Climate change is defined by Dictionary.com as “A long-term change in the earth’s climate, especially a change due to an increase in the average atmospheric temperature” (“The Definition of Climate Change”). Climate change can be separated into four categories which are: evidences, causes, effects, and solutions. These categories help to find out what climate change is and how we can stop it.
Climate change is a change of environment patterns. In specific the change was obvious from the mid to late 20th century. The reason of the dramatic change was due to large increased levels of atmospheric carbon dioxide produced by the use of fossil fuels. We as people can barely or see no change at all. But the truth is that our Earth is warming little by little. Minor changes in the average temperature of the earth can transform to massive and possibly dangerous shifts in climate and weather. Global temperatures have been on the rise, Earth average temperature has by 1.4 Fahrenheit over the past 100 years, and temperature is projected to increase 2 to 11.5 Fahrenheit over the next century. Again as we can see the evidence of climate changes such as increasing of temperatures, changes in precipitation, consequence in more floods, ice glaciers are melting, and oceans are warming. (‘United States Environmental Protection Agency,” 2014) As those changes take place in our Earth, it becomes more challenging for us humans, and creatures around the planet. So as we understand, the managing of climate change is important, because it will create awareness on the role of science, as well the role of humans, the effects of climate change, and the adaptation of climate change.
Climate change refers to a change in the composition of the global atmosphere over time. It is a change in climate patterns, which includes temperature, precipitation and winds. It can occur either due to a natural process or as a result of human intervention. Just a few added degrees to the Earth’s climate can jeopardize the environment if it does not have enough time to adapt. This can result in
Climate change is an increase in the Earth’s average temperature. It’s a massive problem because of the disastrous effects it can cause and has caused. The current effects and proof of climate change include ocean acidification, more extreme weather events, melting glaciers and ice sheets and warming oceans (NASA). Almost 97% of scientists also believe that climate change is due, at least in part, to human activities that pollute the atmosphere . The evidence that shows climate change is occurring and is due, in part to human activities is overwhelming. However, people still deny it’s existence, hindering those who want to look for solutions. Climate change is very real, whether you choose to believe it or not.
These days one of the most important of debates is related to the climate change. It has been realized that the climate change has been there since years and there is a need that changes are made for the better rather only discussing the changes taking place in the environment. A number of changes that can combat against the much debated climate change have been proposed but one of the main facts on which many would agree is that there is a need to make policies that can effectively help in combating and reversing climate changes (Kessel 2000). The debate of climate change highlights the main reasons, causes, as well as the consequences of the climate change. These reasons can then be used to design policies that can help in the reduction in the greenhouse gas emissions that play one of the most important roles in increased climate change. Associated factors along with greenhouse gas emissions include population growth, energy usage and economic growth. One of the main facts that need to be highlighted here is that greater human influence can be found related to the negative changes seen in the climate. However, one main question that is asked by the climatologists is the measure of the human influence on the climate. In these cases, it is important to analyze the percentage of human influence that has taken important part in the climate change.
The 1760’s marked the start of the industrial revolution- but it also marked what is believed to be the start of human influenced climate change. Climate change refers to the changes in global or regional climate patterns. Usually the topic of global climate change is dismissed as a nonexistent problem or a non-human influenced issue. But the impacts of global climate change pose a current and future day threat to human advancement. Climate change will bring with it changes in regional weather patterns, sea level rises, and stronger storms. The changes of global weather patterns will bring with it some of the most devastating effects.
The automotive industry designs, develops, manufactures, markets and sells motor vehicles. It is one of the most important economic sectors by revenue. Climate change in the automotive industry is both a threat and an opportunity in business. In the auto industry, climate change plays a big role. Pollution and global warming is one of the biggest issues and discussions held on a daily basis. Almost all car makers have taken action over this issue and have made “green” cars in order to protect the pollution. Climate changes can also affect business operations when it comes to natural disasters. Let’s say an auto manufacturing company in Indonesia gets hit by a bad storm that causes major flooding. This business will be affected by this and lose money in the process. Yes, there are insurance policies but it is a third world country and not every business has that there. Climate change and topography play a big role in the automotive industry.
Climate change is the subject of how weather patterns change over decades or longer. Climate change takes place due to natural and human influences. Since the Industrial Revolution (i.e., 1750), humans have contributed to climate change through the emissions of GHGs and aerosols, and through changes in land use, resulting in a rise in global temperatures.1 Increases in global temperatures may have different impacts, such as an increase in storms, floods, droughts, and sea levels, and the decline of ice sheets, sea ice, and glaciers.
