1.1 Introduction
Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) is the system that assists organizations in the smooth running of their businesses in a proper way. Lack of management support is one of the major cause of failure in implementing ERP and poor selection of ERP vendors, because every vendor says they can properly implement ERP but not all can successfully do the job. Cloud based Enterprise Resource Planning is the technology that can be used to access organisations resources from anywhere, and anytime (real time) and update the database as the transaction is taking place. This study aims to come up with the framework to be used for implementing cloud based Enterprise Resource Planning in transport business sector in Zimbabwe, that will go a long way in helping gain trust from the management on the safety of data in the cloud. Evidence is there to support that cloud based ERP is slowly becoming the center of all government systems is the government want to operate transparently and corruption free. The current economic resuscitations in government operations require government agencies to become innovative and transparent in all their operations, so that it will be easy to attract direct investment from international investors. Enterprise Resource Planning is a packaged business system or software that provides business solutions. These business solutions include processes that automate and integrate different processes of the organization and share common data across the enterprise (Shang and Seddon, 2002).
Enterprise resource planning is a balanced software solution which is used to manage a company’s resources. It includes various modules for the numerous departments in a company. These include HR, Marketing, Sales and Distribution, Material Management, Production Planning and Finance and Controlling. The ERP system provides transaction codes which perform predefined operations on the entered data set. A large number of different operations can be executed using the ERP transaction codes. Thus, this saves time spent in calculations and assimilation of data.
