I used my many different techniques for my papers throughout the term. Some of the techniques and methods were more helpful than other techniques and methods. I excelled at some method that James D. Lester recommended to try and I failed at some other methods that she recommended. They were some methods that I haven't grasp yet and can definitely work on in the future. It is always very helpful to know a little more on the subject that I am about to be writing about and having a little bit more knowledge while I am writing. Also, doing some formal research usually leads me to find some arguments and examples that could help support my case and to make the case that I am discussing a little bit stronger argument. I usually do some research by reading books, reading articles online, finding statistic information, and some scientific research and other things. After doing a little of research on the subject, I make a plan how I am going to organize my paper. I decide where I am going to spread my points to support my case, which examples are weak vs strong then afterward I decide which example I am going to use in each paragraph and evaluate if it is appropriate for the paragraph. "Constructing a Research Paper" is a unit from "Academic Writing for Graduate Students" was a third edition written by John M. Swales and Christine B. Feak, and published by the University of Michigan in 2012. This book mainly focuses on how to prepare international graduate students to write academic papers. This book consists of a total of 8 units, of which unit 8 explains how to construct a research paper (Swales & Feak, 2012).
When you hear the word “process,” what comes to mind? I immediately envision an assembly line. On the assembly line are people following the same steps over and over again to produce a final product. When writing, we do the same thing; however, we do it in a less stringent manner. We start with research and then follow the steps of the assembly line until we produce a final product, a written paper. Throughout this examination, I will discuss three of many steps in my research process for last weeks written assignment.
When writing a paper it can be very difficult unless you break it up into sections. When I had to write my first paper I felt like a man on a desert island all alone without a clue on how to do anything. But with the help of a few teachers they taught me how to survive on the island of writing papers. What the teachers taught me was that just like everything in life it needs to be taken in steps. The steps they taught me still apply to the papers I write to this day.
As students preparing for a successful career field we will all find a time when we need to effectively communicate on paper. Some of the challenges that I face in my writing is developing my thoughts into organized, presentable sentences. One thing that I am able to do well is having the creativity to generate the thought process without much planning. I do not have much need for brainstorming or outlines in order to get ideas flowing. This has its detriment to my writing, however. Since my ideas flow so easily, I have had a tenancy to miss some of the key points of assignment outlines. To mitigate this, in the future, I will need to ensure I make adequate time available to prepare for assignments.
This book helps in ways writing are important when becoming a better writer and will help you navigate through papers you don’t have the desire to write. An important point to remember when writing a paper is to incorporate their thesis. Your thesis will tell the reader where you stand on the subject and what the point is of the paper. When stating the thesis, you also have to state what the opposite opinion would be by summarizing. Stating both views and starting with a hook can grab the reader’s attention and also keep the reader’s attention. Templates in They Say/I Say can come in handy when figuring out how to incorporate or state what others have to say. The writing process has taught me a lot about the different steps I should take while writing a paper.
During this second semester, I learned about many techniques that enhanced my writing. What I learned this week from reading is to look at my writing situation and focus on the key elements (like purpose of your writing and the audience). I also have a habit of overthinking what to write and it sometimes takes me longer with writing which results in errors. I am learning to just write and go back and proofread my writing. If I have second doubts about my writing I will ask someone else to review it. When writing you has to discover your purpose and what you would like to accomplish in writing. Also know who your audience is; when writing a paper a person must know the audience that they are writing for.
This semester there has been several writing strategies I have learned. Most of the writing tips are useful to me; however, my paper’s still have awkward sentences. Before I submit any essay, I will use the editorial tips I have learned this semester. My writing has vastly improved. Now, I am a stronger writer than I was in years past.
I recently adjusted pricing for 2H 2016 due to PGM adjustments and updated the pricing sheet for Autocar. I sent the new 2H 2016 price list to Autocar May 1st, 2016 (60 days before it takes effect).
