I hope your life is better than mine at the moment. Hopefully, you and Jeremiah are still together and you’re finally happy for once in your life. I hope you still have family picnics in the park ,and lay in the bed with your husband as you both tell each other about your hopes and dreams, while in your pajamas and fuzzy socks over a glass of chocolate milk and teddy grahams, like you used to do back in your younger days. I know you’re excited about walking across the stage in the spring, and finally graduate from college in the top 3% with honors and your receive your doctorate at age 25. I have come to realize that this is an advantage, really; it keeps you on your toes.” ( Smith ). When I first arrived at Brunswick Community College, I did not have a for sure plan on what I wanted to do with my future. To be honest, I was not really that concerned about my future. But after a month or two passed, I couldn't help but feel... off.
The biggest challenge in life is being yourself in a world that tries to make you like everyone else. Conquering the greatest plains on earth, and solving the devious mysteries of mankind is what I consider living life. Working a 9 to 5 like an average joe was never an option for me. My vision is what makes me different. My drive for success fuels my work ethic because I do not want my children to experience pain and suffering. I want my life to be the pinnacle of perfection for other people. In my life I’ve been through many trials and tribulations. At the age of 4, I lost my closest friend, my father. It changed my perception of the world,I noticed there were greater opportunities available in life. Things far more superior than what’s going on in my own town, state, or country. If I wanted to obtain greater opportunities in life I would have to excel at the smaller things first.
My personal goal as a student at the University of Phoenix is to obtain a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management within the next two years. This goal is very important to me because of the impact it will have on my family, work and personal life. In my family it will set a positive example for my daughters, grandchildren, and youngest sister. My family has been a source of support throughout my years in college as I have pursued this degree while maintaining a full time job. Obtaining the degree will be an accomplishment not only for me but also for my family who has given me the encouragement to reach my goal. I would like for my grandchildren to remember their grandmother as a strong and educated woman.
One of my academic goals is to get the best education possible at Allan Hancock College before I transfer. I will accomplish this by always paying attention to all my teachers and do all my work and most importantly make school my number one priority. Another academic goal that I have is to transfer to Cal Poly or Long Beach and obtain my Master’s degree in education. I also want to graduate with honor and with a 3.5 GPA or above. I decided that I wanted to be a teacher because I like helping people out and also I enjoy working with kids. I selected these goals because my economic background is not the great, most of the money that my family makes goes to the rent and daily expenses. We live in a small apartment and we are a family of five; we don’t usually go out and eat at restaurants only in special occasions.
As a child and even as a teenager one tends to make dreams and set goals for life. On occasion these goals are far stretched and sometimes even fairy-tale like, we tend to see life through a rose-colored glass, not taking into account the many sidetracks life throws our way. At that stage in life our goals tend to be less focused and somewhat unreachable. However, the process of growing up, or maturing, tends organized and center our goals, we learn to make compromises and set goals for our goals. There are different types of goals, short term and long term. I have learned to separate the many goals I have into three main categories: family, professional and personal.
