College Admissions Essay: My Multiple Aspects In My Life

I have lived my entire life in the shadow of the Boulder flatirons, surrounded by the city’s ‘hippie’ culture and diverse population. My life experience and worldview have been shaped by my own background, but by the diverse life experiences of the people who I interact with as well. I come from a tight-knit, well-educated family. Eight of my parents nine siblings live in Colorado, so my entire childhood was spent in the company of my extended family fostering a deep sense of love, community, and unbounded support. My mother is an elementary school teacher, and from a young age, she passed onto me a great love of learning. My entire life, I was given the resources to succeed and excel in academics. School is an extremely important part of anyone’s life, and I have the opportunity to attend New Prague High School. Here I have been able to strive academically. Over the years I have tried my best to get good grades, on both my tests and report cards. I have taken my education very seriously. I do this by getting all my work done on time and having good grades and maintaining my GPA. Over the years of attending high school and trying to improve my education, I have received a few academic awards. One award that I have received was student of the month for math.

As a candidate for membership into the National Honor Society, I already possess the quality of scholarship. I have received First Honors every quarter since Pre-K3 when I first started school, and I earned high average each year. I maintain my high average in school while joining other organizations, and participating in other activities. Also, I have been taking regular and honors courses while in high school. While an elementary student at Kingsway Christian Academy, I participated in each of the Academic Challenges. I was also the recipient of the Science Fair Award, the President’s Award, the Excellence Award, and many other academic achievements during my school career. As a junior, I am now a member of the Yearbook Journalism Staff and I look forward to having a successful Yearbook year.

There have been labels placed upon me throughout my life. Some have stayed with me while others have dropped off. Without these labels ruling how people see me I feel like I would be more free to do things than I am now.

i try my best to show great leadership with in my dance studio. im am one of the oldest, which brings great responsibilty. I hope that the little girls see me as a role model, one who is repsectable, always try my best and never back down from a challenge. My biggest influnce i try to give is to never give up. even if you cant get it then there,with practice and dertermination anything can be down. within the past three years, ive been a assiatant/ student teacher under A Step Above. Watching the girls grow throughout the year is a wonderful sight,and being able to contrubute to the growth is a reward.

I can define myself as many things, as can many other humans in the world. I am a woman, I am a sister, I am a daughter. I am a violist, I am a student, I am a friend. Throughout my life, I find myself inspired mostly by those around me, holding myself to a standard that will help make their lives a little bit better.

Last year, I received a commendable G.P.A of 4.4. This proves that I not only take difficult courses like Honors and Ap classes, but also contribute great amount of hard work and dedication to overcome those challenges and succeed. Other than my transcript, I received man recognition for my academic achievements. I attended many Honor Rolls and received Academic Letter Award every year. In addition, I also participated in competitions, like Junior Math Leagues, Science Fair, and NHD(National History Day), to test my knowledge in academics. I competed in the Science Fair and won first place in school division. In NHD, I have received first place in school, district, and state competition. By participating in these competition, it motivates me to strive higher. Lastly, I am a member of NAHS(National Art Honor Society), NSHS(National Spanish Honor Society), NMHS(National Math Honor Society), and Tri M Music Honor Society. Academics have been my primary strength throughout my high school career. Since Grade 9, I have maintained an average over 95%, thus receiving Silver Medal every year; my final graduating average will most likely be 96.2%. My scholarly success is illustrated in the high number of subject awards I have received - ten awards in three years. In addition, I have competed in various math and computing contests, such as the Galois, for which I placed first in the school, and the AMC 12B, as well as the University of Toronto Biology Competition.

I am greatly honored to be among the elite group of students who have been considered to be chosen as members of the National Honor Society due to an exemplary demonstration of leadership, scholarship, service, and character. To be chosen, one must show that they have attained all of these qualities through their hard work in school, as well as in extracurricular activities, and are continuously striving to improve both their school and their community. I believe that I have exhibited all of the required characteristics that define both a scholar and a leader to my teachers, coaches, family, peers, church leaders, and members of my community.

Other areas that I exhibit leadership qualities are through babysitting, volunteering though the Delta Dental Foundation, and acting in the play “Treasure Island.” I believe that by babysitting I exhibit leadership qualities such as; being dependable, being able to delegate responsibilities, being able to communicate with the children and their parents, and having a positive attitude. This is because in order to successfully watch children and keep them safe it is important to not only be in control, but to have earned the respect of the children you are watching. Within the school and community, I demonstrate many qualities of leadership. To help promote school activities, last winter and spring I participated in the production of the musical by set painting. I am a leader when it comes to multiple things. In my choir, I’m the section leader for the baritones. In group projects, I often take charge of planning the project in order to ensure that it gets done in the best way possible. One of the most notable times I took a leadership position was when I volunteered with a group of my NHS peers at the Hot Chocolate Run in downtown Chicago. As more and more people began to finish the race, the lines where we were serving hot chocolate became really hectic and crowded. I decided to take leadership and usher people into different lines, as well as tell everyone to have their tickets ready when they got to the counter, even though I was not told to do that. With so many ways to describe who I am, I think I will start off with the basics. I am a college student that attends Drake University. I would identify myself as hard-working, responsible, and persistent. At the beginning of the term, I identified myself as how I felt in the moment with answers such as tired, hungry, and bored. Yes, those were traits I identified myself within the moment, but now I try to look far and beyond the present. I want to identify myself as someone who strives to achieve everything she ever wanted, including graduating from college, with honors and getting involved within the college community. I want to be able to identify with things that have meaning and substance that I have always strived for including being determined and self-reliant.
