College Campus Shootings

College life is hard enough as is, but now college campuses are becoming more and more dangerous and something needs to be done. Students should be able to enjoy every minute of college life without fear of something awful happening to them. College students face dangers of shootings, mugging, burglary, and sexual assault, among other things. College campuses are more dangerous than ever and if colleges don’t take action soon, kids will stop going to college out of pure fear. Taking preventative measures to assure that these things do not happen is the most important part of making college campuses safe for students. In order to prevent such dangers, campuses must keep guns off campus except with select faculty and security guards, keep sidewalks well-lit with “blue light” security systems spread throughout campus, and take action to prevent sexual assault. Mass shootings are terrible tragedies that can and should be prevented in any way possible. Perhaps the best solution would be to implement gun control laws for the entire country, but until that happens there are actions that we can take to be sure students are safe from gun violence on campus. Currently there are 10 states that allow anyone to carry a gun on campus, including Arkansas, Georgia, Oregon, and Texas; and 23 states that leave the decision to ban or allow guns up to each college or university, including Arizona, Indiana, Maine, Ohio, and West Virginia.
