Have you’ve ever felt in charge of your college destiny? You just knew your college application would capture the attention of that Ivy League university, but all of a sudden, wham, boom, bam! Your bold confidence was blindsided and your college world took a nose dive. If you’re experiencing, or you’ve ever experienced, a fuming ticking point, a college wit’s end boom-bam, turn loose the panic button, and take a deep breath. I have great news: Jesus is with you, and you’re not alone. Everyone in his or her college life has experienced, or will experience a type of wits end meltdown. My wits-ends season helped me to understand that I was at the right end: my wits end. This humbling right place is where I had given-up my dependency upon my college degrees, human intellect, or a Mr. or Ms. Fix-it mentality. Consequently, our wits end moments get God’s attention and demonstrates that we stand flatfooted to usher in His Will. This place was where I landed, at the final stage of my wit’s end season. I also learned six unforgettable lessons listed …show more content…
He gets upset when you put your college desires ahead of Him. He made His Word clear in Exodus 20:3: “Thou shalt have no other gods before Me” (Exodus, 20:3). Did you know that whichever idol (what you worshipped) you put before God (i.e., academic success, career dreams, employment, etc); He uses what you put before Him to discipline or correct you? For instance, if your idol is to put your college degree first, God will use your idol to pull you into Him. Let’s think, if you’re exhausting your energy to seek employment, and nothing is happening, what do you think would happen if you apply all your options to lay down your idols, and get close to God, first? I learned from the writer the reference section in my King James Bible that, “A lot of people link idols to material images, but an idol is the main spot (or position) it holds in a person’s life, which means, any person, anything, or any desire that prevents your total yielding of an unreserved “yes” to the Lord, may be defined as an
I cant believe that I am finally a senior in high school it seems just like yesterday I was beginning high school. As I begin my final year I am beginning to realize that this year I will be faced with many responsibilities and will make tons of memories. But I hope that I am able to make my senior year the best yet. Through this final year I hope to have passing grades in all of my classes, to win pep rallies, and to have perfect attendance.
God of the Old Testament is a God of election. Throughout the Old Testament we see God choosing whether to bless or curse people. Youngblood explains this through Jacob and Esau. Both were from the same father yet he chooses to bless Jacob who was younger than Esau. Election removes pride and boastfulness in humans and puts all of us on the same level waiting for God’s will in different ways. Youngblood than brings out the aspect of the covenant. Since the beginning of the time, God made covenants with the people. Through these covenants, God portrays that he always keeps his promise, and he is fair, and trustworthy to all who honor God.
Favoritism plays a large role in the god’s motives to help the mortals. Humans are simply pawns the gods use to amuse themselves, but each god has preference when it comes to who they help and who they deceive. The divine each have their own special qualities to lend to who they
Many students are so overjoyed to fly the coop and go off to college that they have a hard time remembering that all education, not only college can be very challenging therefore “let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up”(Galatians 6:9) . The shock of it all can cause very negative reactions on people of all ages from partying all the way to simply procrastinating. Excitement is an amazing feeling but keeping it at bay can be a serious challenge.
When life gets good, glory can get in the way of things. Even as I finish this book, I wonder whom I will meet and help because of this. However, God’s Will for the last twenty-one chapters has everything to do with Him and little to do with me.
God does not make mistakes, and this devotion, unfortunately, reminds me of my bad attitude displayed at Sunday’s Women’s Day service. I was just in a bad mood and the sisters noticed it. I had to repent and ask God to forgive me and deliver me from this dark place I found myself occupying.
We know that our labour in the Lord is not in vain – the only dream that comes to the lazy person is unrewarded fantasy. Unless he follows Solomon’s practical wisdom from his words – “From the fruit of his lips a man is filled with good things as surely as the work of his hands rewards him.”* Proverbs
A true worshipper trusts the judgement of the gods above their own and cares not to take the chance of offending one. Loyalty against faithlessness implicates itself in not only relations, but beliefs. On the contrary, Telemachus declares “this is rapine; and by the eternal gods I beg Zeus you shall get what you deserve” (II. 152-153). “The eternal gods” are the key words.
Freshman 101 is a class adapted from the parrot program (Fay & Medway, 2006, p. 226). The parrot program was designed for college students at Cornell University. Freshman 101 is the first of its kind in the state of South Carolina and the first to extend Parrot’s college program to high school freshmen (p. 226). Each two-hour intervention class contained 25 to 30 freshmen students. The objectives of the class were to have participants understand the definition of acquaintance rape and the frequency that it takes place along with South Carolina’s laws regarding rape (p. 226). Students also learned about mixed messages associated with verbal and non-verbal communication and how to clearly state their wants and desires (p. 227). Communication,
The relationship that God has in our life as a saved Christian is authority. God has authority over our life because he is sovereign and all-mighty. In Romans 12:1-2 we are told that we need to present our bodies as a living sacrifice to God. That is also a form of worship, because God sent his son to die for out sins we need to present our bodies as a living sacrifice to God. It can be easy as a college student to focus more on school then God. So while at college I should use my time as worship. The Bible says we are created as a holy temple, so while at college everything I do should be devoted to God. I often do things and think how can this be used to glorify God? I am studying right now to be a teacher and through these studies one day
In The Odyssey, Odysseus has numerous encounters with the gods in person and through divine intervention. This affects his journey home and the actions he chooses to take in the future. Throughout the epic poem, Odysseus learns that by listening to the gods he makes a lot more progress on his journey home. We experience similar situations with God on our faith journey. Every person and culture has their own unique relationship with God, but those closest to Him will always be the happiest and most successful.
There are many gods that either get in the way of
The personalities of the gods are as broad as there are stars in the heavens, and as such the ways that these gods interact with mortals vary. The purpose of gods intervening with the days of man comes down to two things, good or bad; there are gods who are caring and loving towards mortals while others view man as pawns which they can use for their own personal agenda. A few gods that capture and exemplify the various personalities of the gods can be found in Ovid: The Metamorphoses of Ovid and Homer: The essential Homer: Selections from the Iliad and the Odyssey. Although the ways man and the gods communicate and get each other’s attention are different, there are reoccurring and overarching themes such as desire, and loyalty that make each intervention between gods and mortals similar.
In order for gods to enact their divine plans, they often use mortals as their pawns, either using them as prophets or putting them through suffering to test their faith. However, those who blindly follow deities become nothing more than puppets. They lose all sense of individuality, free will, and agency, becoming nothing more than husks of their former selves only to fulfill some selfish materialistic or spiritual goal that is promised by a deity. In a sense, they sacrifice a majority of their humanity in pursuit of this paradise, but do the ends justify the means? No, to lose these virtues robs humans of their ability to forge their own destiny instead of letting a deity hold all the cards. Even though there are harsh punishments for
My first semester of my first year at Glendon College is soon coming to an end with only two papers and one final exam left to write. As I reflect back on the semester, I recall telling myself at least once a week that I wanted to drop out of school, followed by many breakdowns, crying fits and calling defeat. The past few months, haven’t been at all easy for me, I have thought many times I wasn’t intelligent enough to be in university, I was disappointed with some of the grades I received and I was constantly engulfed in a swarm of stress. Despite all these tough times, I have had many good one’s as well, I have made new friends which are now integral to my everyday life and I have enhanced my knowledge to a new degree.
