Where Do Religious Beliefs Come From?
There are many areas and places from which religious beliefs originate from. To answer this question with one specific answer is unreasonable so reasons will mostly be specific to a certain situation. In many situations religion and beliefs stem from the people or setting closest to them such as their family or global positioning. Going in deeper to that, the beliefs themselves had to have come from somewhere or something.
Religious knowledge systems is an area of knowledge directly related to the question at hand. One of the most obvious places people adopt their religious beliefs is from the religion itself, that being the places of worship, practices, etc.. and stems from of Judaism. The major difference between the two religions is that Christians believe that Jesus is the son of god while Jews do not. Christianity also believed that Jesus rose from his tomb on the third day. It is not known what the origin of this different belief is. Some say that there was use of hallucinogenic mushrooms in the early stages of Christianity so, it is possible that Jesus rising from his tomb could have been due to the effects of psychoactive substances. On the same line of thought this belief could have also stemmed from heatstroke or other ailments caused by intense weather conditions being that the origin of Christianity and Judaism is Israel, which is mostly desert. Besides that belief, the morals and beliefs of the religion early on could have been adopted from a leader of some sort. It could also possibly come from a person preaching the things that they wanted, while also making a story to back the things that they were pressing for. Along with that, the Bible, along with other texts, are not written in the same language of their original copies. That being said, there could have been paraphrasing in the translation process or the translations could have been completely off. But, due to it being the most sold book in the world, its ideas and teachings have been adopted into our way of life and what we think is right. Westerners most likely chose to stick with said beliefs because they made sense to them or it was the cultural norm that surrounded them. This is why reason and emotion are two very powerful ways of knowing because when reasoning out what is right, people have their own feelings towards things so emotion comes into play.
