Coming to college has shown me information and knowledge I never thought I was capable of learning and it will be knowledge I will use for the rest of my life. I came to college last year for my own personal growth and to expand my horizons. I thought about what I wanted to do after high school and continuing my education was number one on my list. I’m here simply to better my future, expand my knowledge, increase my potential, and learn more about myself. I want to make my family and myself proud by completing college and getting a degree. Bettering my future and making sure I have the information to be able to do my future career is my top priority because it’s the only thing I have continually been working for since the 9th grade. Expanding my knowledge in these courses that will soon get me to the school I need to be at is a compelling reason for me to stay motivated enough to wake up in the morning and push myself to come to school. I hope to increase my potential and develop into …show more content…
We help one another, support each other, and the amount of love my family shows each other is unreal. I have a huge family and since I live with my grandparents I’m always exposed to their support and commitment for me to be successful in college. My family and I are always involved and surrounded by our culture. We go to ceremonies, powwows, dances, burnings, and participating in healing rituals. A strength I have from my culture is my family. Our culture makes my family stand taller and be proud of who they are and where they come from. The connection from my family and culture empowers me to be better in school and my life, it empowers me to graduate school and finish with grades I’m proud of, and it empowers me to come back to my tribe and inspire and prepare our younger generations for what’s to come and to push through even when things get rough. There is so much strength from my family and my
I do not understand why we would control who could attend a community college in the first place. The community college is a resource that serves communities and the four-year university system in many different ways, from continuing education to general education classes community colleges cater to the needs of every student to a degree. To think about limiting this resource is to deny someone an education and that is not how the U.S. was founded. Granted we are working towards free higher education through programs like the Tennessee Promise, but college is obtainable for the most part through financial resources that students have available. College is often times a barrier enough for students, but to begin limiting it to certain groups

Growing up, college has always been drilled into my head as not only an option but rather a requirement that must be fulfilled in order to achieve a sufficient lifestyle, or even better, a successful life filled with many accomplishments. As I grew up, the idea of attending college grew on me as I worked hard in my classes, striving for As but knowing that it was okay to make mistakes sometimes. Attending a college preparatory middle school made my dream of attending college a most viable option. As I learned more about the hundreds of colleges around the world, many caught my attention, but I knew that I would have to set the bar high for myself in a world full of colleges dominated by predominantly white scholars and low expectations for students of color.
Looking back at my introduction letter from September I have noticed that I have greatly improved in my essay writing and study habits. I still think that I could study a little harder for vocab quizzes. There are not many obstacles in my way other than sometimes I do not study at all, which of course causes problems. I believe memorizing the roots of the vocab words is very helpful to me if I forget a word's meaning. On my vocabulary quizzes I usually get around a 75. Also my paragraphs have been really good and well written even though I could definitely improve on my transitions. On my essays I usually get 90 and above.
Since that first day of their freshman year seniors anticipate a change from dependence to self-reliance, looking forward to becoming independent, no longer reliant upon others but upon self and soon the symbolic movement of the tassel from student to graduate will change everything. College is a time for adventure because you find yourself taking risks, learning to grow, and surrounding yourself with like-minded people. Three necessities that everyone needs to truly experience college.
It seems that today's day and age education is everything. From the time you enter elementary school they tell you “college is important,” and you are pressured about “what do you want to be when you grow up?” Entering high school it really hits home. There are college visits, applications, due dates, and many other college preps to do before you even graduate. Now, I have always been one to enjoy school and try to learn something new every day, but it became my only chance when I was medically discharged from the US Army almost a year ago.
A student's job is not done after the end of the day. Coming to school in the rain stinks because of all the traffic that occurs just trying to get into the school. It sucks getting your clothes wet and being cold when the shivering winds blow. When you accidently step in a puddle and now your shoe is wet for the entire day is the worst. Your socks get all soaked and mushy with each step you take. Your clothes get drenched and smell bad when you get into a room.

Now that I have been through half a year of high school, there are many things that Freshman should need to know coming into it next year. The most major thing is that this is taken way more serious than middle school because this actually counts toward something. Next they should just do their work because if they don’t then they will struggle to bring their grade back up. Also, they need to listen more to what the teacher is saying because it is crucial to know how to do something on a project or homework. Last, is to just not be scared or nervous coming into high school because it isn’t difficult, we have all been through it so there is not anything to be nervous about.
Entering college, I have at least four years of classes ahead of me. I will take classes I will be genuinely excited to take, but I also know I will take classes that I will not be as thrilled about. Whether it is a class I will be excited about, or a class I will be dreading, it is ultimately my responsibility to do well in those classes. Although some professors are indeed better than others, their skills and abilities, or lack thereof, should not hinder my ability to receive a quality education.

Ever since I can remember, I have been motivated to become as educated as I could. I love school, and I have put every ounce of myself into absorbing everything I could and making the most of my experiences. As I move on to college, it is my goal to maintain my passion for learning and use all of my experiences to grow as a person.
