Common Core Curriculum

Another way that the Common Core has its problem, is with the politics. The Common Core is only dealing with confusion of this and must be brought to attention by everyone, not just the educators of schools. Regular exams assess these lessons, and allow states to measure their progress against each other. While Christie and others claimed they are ditching Common Core, a closer look reveals that this is not quite the case.

Common core cirriculum is a federal program that is pushed by the federal government in order to make standards in the American Education System. Common core damages our children 's education system. Common Core is destroying the American school system by doing the following: pushing standardized tests on students, defunding schools that do not support common core or test too low, and miseducating students on an everday scale.

I am assuming the role of a principal and I am questioning the support of the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) within my school environment. Based on the information in Issues in K-12 Education Case Study Document 5, there are numerous issues concerning CCSS that a principal must consider for their school to be successful. These issues include: federal jurisdiction over curricula, the time allotted for implementation of federal standards, the impact of test results on professional development and teacher evaluations, and the possible elimination of other essential educational resources when implementing standards. The issues affect all stakeholders and their concerns regarding the process, content, fairness, funding, assessment, and gaps in achievement need to be addressed.

The Common Core State Standards (CCSS) initiative is a plan to restructure the educational system in the United States and provide students with a high-quality education. Many states have adopted and are implementing these standards. In our fast changing world, different skills are needed to do the jobs our society has to offer. Upon completion of high school, these students need to be equipped to either enter the workforce prepared to meet the demands of their employers or to enter college prepared to take their education to the next level in pursuit of careers. The CCSS will increase in depth and difficulty from kindergarten through grade 12.

Ultimately, Common Core is not the education our children need. Students need a mixed curriculum of learning, with the intention that they will recognize what their passions are, and not just how well educated they are in general subjects. Having knowledge in these subjects are extremely important, however only emphasizing on certain subjects narrows the child’s ability to learn more. The Common Core standards prevent students from that excessive knowledge they would have, and only focuses on how well they can think on a test. Despite the elaborate plan Common Core presents to raise the educational standards in our nation, these same standards will diminish the student’s individualism, as well as inflict stress and anxiety on the child’s

The Common Core State Standards are a state attempt to create strong educational standards. The standard are created to ensure that students in the country are learning and grasping the information that are given in the classrooms for them to succeed academically. The Common Core plan included governors and education commissioners form forty-eight states and the District of Columbia. They wanted to make sure the standards are relevant, logical and sequential. For content all subjects must have critical-thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills. Some positive aspects of this policy is that it prepares our students for a competitive global jobs. It can provide national connections in education. Designed to shape the best standards so that all states will be taking a step ahead in education. These standards had been created after extensive research by professional educators for excellence in education. The CCS focus on what students expectations of learning, and achievements. Educators do not need to worry that the standards will make their jobs look redundant because they are in charge of creating lessons to teach their students the content and skills that the CCS demands. The teachers do not feel that the standards are one-size-fits-all. Some negative aspects of the policy are that is a program created by solely the government. As an administrator, introducing and implementing common core standards will produce challenges for all stakeholders. “A well-documented finding from studies of organizations of all kinds is that their members resist change” (Lunenburg & Ornstein, pg. 186). As a change agent, I will be faced with staff members who are resistant to change because they may view it as threatening. The ability to fail as a change agent is another challenge. If the change initiatives are not implemented correctly, this may cause the implementation to become a disaster.

In 2010, the education system in the state of Arizona began to change. The Arizona State Board of Education adopted new standards for school districts to follow and abide by. The new standards known as Arizona’s College and Career Ready Standards (ACCRS) began to be implemented by schools statewide by early 2013. The purpose of the new standards is to be a set of benchmarks (standardized tests) for students of all grades to take and meet as they move through the Arizona school system. The state of Arizona believes that a “consistent framework to prepare students” is through the increased advancement of language arts, social studies (history), science and mathematics.

The Common Core State Standards (CCSS) are a set of academic standards in Mathematics and English language arts. The standards are an outline of what students should be able to do at the end of each school year. These standards began as a goal to standardized learning objectives across the country, so students everywhere receive the same education no matter where they live and to close the achievement gap (Funk & Wagnalls, 2015). They apply to grades K through twelve. The achievement gap is widely criticized for being in favor for white students, because they have access to higher quality of schools- even in public schools. Poverty stricken schools are filled with poverty stricken children. This is partially because of location and districts, and other reasons, such as money. Children with families of higher income can afford a higher education, or live in a higher end county- which means higher end schools and districts. This eliminates learning gaps between state public schools by applying uniform expectations; this way if a student chooses to go into a college out of state there will be no worries concerning entry knowledge levels. The author’s purpose is to challenge the criticism that it has gotten over the past years by millions of parents and teachers. This article examines the different ways it helps a child overall. The information I want to include is that it builds cooperation skills, it help with creativity and all that. The core curriculum at Army War College and elective experiences are interconnected and supportive in many ways. The JLASS elective is much in support to the Theater Strategy and Campaigning Course (TSC) and European Regional Studies. The Executive Branch of the United States Government and the President has the powers that can influence many things one of them is our Education and the Common Core law that had taken in to effect back in June 2010. Even before the Common Core States standards were, official dozens of states had adopted the standards.

Let us take the math problem seven times seven, what does it equal? Seven times seven equals 49 and we know this because during our years in the school system, whether public or private, we are taught the multiplication table in lower elementary. For a student in the public school system, as of 2010, seven times seven does not equal 49, it equals 14 as well. It is a lengthy process to explain, but according to Common Core, if you can prove it, it is correct. This is one of the many reasons students in mainstream public school settings are struggling with simple equations, basic structure of the English language, and a firm grasp on when historical events occurred. The Common Core curriculum holds a bias against individuality in intelligence, it looks to level the playing field instead of allowing people to be challenged. This curriculum has caused much controversy and some states such as Indiana, Alabama, and others are starting to secede from the Common Core due to its pressure to succeed, equality of intelligence, and over complication of the educational system.
