The theme of “Technology” and topic of “Artificial Intelligence in Society” was chosen as I found it very intruding because I grew up being exposed to all sorts of technological and electronic equipment. I have always been interested in technology and I have always tried to keep up with its rapid advances. My target audience is teenagers between the ages of 16-19 years of age. From previous knowledge, I have found that the term artificial intelligence is commonly misinterpreted and tied to robots who

You no longer need pages of blue prints to follow. This device will store all your instructions and can be easily altered at the touch of your fingers. [Touches face of board].
MR. SMITH [Mr. Brown quietly]: You know, that could make your job easier. Imagine no more papers and being able to see what the building will look like without drawing it.
MR. BROWN [with a slightly louder tone]: Buh is ah flat piece ah plastic with no knobs! I accustom to readin my blue papers an using meh good ole t-square when I hadda change ah error.
PROF. GREGORY: Any questions about the Architects’ Worker?
[Mr. Brown stands up from his seat to address the professor.]
MR. BROWN: Wa bout we old peeps? We doh know how to wok dem kinda smart techno ting.
[Mr Smith covers his face and slouches on his chair]
PROF. GREGORY [raising his eyebrows]: I beg your pardon sir? Would you be courteous to repeat your sentence?
MR. SMITH [whispering to Mr. Brown sternly]: Brown! Speak properly!
MR. BROWN: Err...What about us older people? We don’t have young brains. We’re too old to use that.
PROF. GREGORY: Well sir, if you are uncertain that you wouldn’t be able to use it, I can assure you that you will be able to.
MR. BROWN: Well what makes you say this? Why can’t we just use newer T-Squares and sharper pencils?
Artificial Intelligence is the taking over of machines to do tasks that would normally require a human to do. The idea of artificial intelligence has been around for years, appearing in movies and television shows to show what the future might bring. Artificial intelligence is becoming closer to a reality and now society must question if it should have a role in society. Artificial intelligence has many flaws at the moment making it impractical for use until society can address the issues facing it like the loss of jobs and how to control the use of AI.
Communication embodies the ability for one to convey a message through the use of verbals (words) and non-verbals (behaviours) in a process to compare, transmit and interpret messages. Garside and Kleiner (2007) portrays communication as sharing thoughts and feelings with other people. For this process to be effective the message should be transmitted with "maximum accuracy and minimum effort" (Garside and Kleiner 2007) with "mindfulness" (Burgoon, Bieger and Waldron 2002) from both parties. Mindfulness requires the sender and receiver to be alert to "the content, situation and sequence of verbal messages, as well as the paralinguistic cues, gestures, facial expression, body movements and cues produced by the physical environment that
When someone brings up the term “artificial intelligence”, a variety of connotations tend to arise, connotations that often are unfair or unrepresentative of the true real-world applications of such a term. Due to the incidentally fear-mongering nature of the media, artificial intelligence can refer to something as basic as a robotic arm in a factory, as well as the implied extinction and/or enslavement of the human race as caused by robo-revolution. As of today, however, when applied in the world of modern technology, artificial intelligence is defined as any innovation that performs a task usually completed by humans. Of course, with this definition, artificial intelligence holds the potential for both societal harm and benefit, and its fate
Humans are becoming more technologically-efficient every day. New inventions and innovations are constantly being made. The Internet is becoming more “reliable” every day. However, how much do we really get from the constant advancement of Internet use and smarter technology? Should we look at their contributions to the world as a benefactor or a curse? The common effect of “artificial intelligence” in the technology we use every day is examined by two brilliant authors, Nicholas Carr and Jamias Cascio. In Carr’s article, “Is Google Making Us Stupid”, he explains the effects of the Internet and technology in our society and claims that the overuse of technology is dangerous and can affect how our mind operates. Jamias Cascio, on the other
The advancement of technology has changed tremendously to the point where everybody depends on it. Technology can be utilized for personal use, education, isolations, relationships and so much more, where in Reclaiming Conversation by Sherry Turkle, discusses how detrimental technology can be through her studies and others sources. In chapter, Four chairs, Sherry Turkle mentions how the utilization of machines is influencing humans negatively. Therefore, the use of artificial intelligence is unsuitable for children and adults.
Compared with two population of aboriginal and Torres Strait islander people and non-indigenous people, ATSI were more than three times higher to have diabetes or high sugar level (Taylor, et al., 2013). Moreover, Australia bureau of statistics reported that with the age growing and more remote areas, the population of diabetes are increasing. There are 39% people in ATSI suffer diabetes at the age of 55 years old and over. (ABS, 2013).

What’s the first thing you think of when someone says, “Artificial Intelligence”? The Terminator? Perhaps the Matrix trilogy? Ever since the inception of the computer, science fiction has brought us scenes of super-intelligent computers who want to take over all of mankind. In reality, Artificial Intelligence is still in it’s infancy, and has done much more good for humans than bad. Over time, people’s perspective of AI has changed drastically. We have gone from thinking that AI will take over the world and obliterate mankind to thinking about all the benefits we can get from AI. The change in people’s perspective lately towards a more positive view of AI has boosted the production, sales, and advancement of home automation and AI, making
Society today is greatly influenced by technology and the impact it has had within the past 20 years. One of the largest breakthroughs, though, is Artificial Intelligence (A.I.). The technology associated with A.I. has greatly developed in the past years, and is only making devices smarter. When someone mentions technology, or even the technological breakthroughs the world has gone through recently, many people go straight to smartphones and computers. A.I. is often overlooked, or put into a general category of "technology". Yet, artificial intelligence is something that should we not be so quick to dismiss, and should be something that gets people talking and even excited for what the future holds.
The first class that I think is helpful for my internship was Communication 101 course. Communication 101 is a public speaking class; it helps students to develop their public speaking skills and to build their confident of their speeches. In the communication class, I had learned how to calm my nerves down before my speeches, and also learned how to speak clearly and professionally in front of people. In this internship, I have two jobs rotation that I often need to interact with customers; which are Front Desk Department and Operator Department. Since I took the communication class, I know how to control my feelings and emotions. Therefore, it does help me a lot while I am working with the customers because I got the opportunities to show
The University of Massachusetts has long been considered “the affordable school where you can get a decent education”. Of the many majors that are offered, the largest is the Communication major. Yet, despite this fact, many of the students that join the major seem uncertain or disappointed in their choice. Why is this? Why is the most popular major also the one with the worst reputation? There are a multitude of reasons, but this article will be focusing on three in particular; lack of direction when it comes to courses, problems with marketing, and lack of support from the college staff.
Artificial intelligence (AI) is one of the most breath-taking topics in science and technology fields today. While the time frame of its real emergence has long been the focus of debates, the moral concern of such a practice is a more urgent question for the human race to answer. Authors and pundits from Mary Shelley in 1818 to Stephen Spielberg in 2001 have expressed their views on this problem already. British computer scientist Alan Turing was asked the question “can machines think?” half a decade ago, after
In today’s fast paced technologically savvy society, everyone wants the most advanced technology, this thirst for the next big thing is what makes technology fields the fastest changing and growing sectors. In countless movies, television shows, and novels, there is a representation of a humanoid character that is in fact a machine functioning and learning new skills with artificial intelligence. The problem with these shows is that the representation of modern day artificial intelligence is largely skewed, these machines have personalities and emotions making them relatable to humans when they are still just a very elaborate computer program. Artificial intelligence is the cognitive ability to solve problems, recognize patterns, and have
The production of technology has come a long way over the past few decades and is changing everything society knows. New advances in technology and artificial intelligence have been implemented all over the world, and it is becoming more and more evident every day. The consequences are becoming apparent, and yet societies continue to focus their attention primarily on new inventions and improvements to various forms of technology. There are common misconceptions when it comes to developing advanced technology and artificial intelligence. The topic is highly controversial as society must decide whether the production of artificial intelligence be accelerated or delayed. Additionally, how much should the government be involved in regulating artificial intelligence production. Society is already beginning to experience detrimental consequences as production continues to advance beyond control. Technology changes us and causes us to act more selfishly and ignore the harms that come with these advances. This idea is relevant not only in society today, but additionally in the works of The Veldt by Ray Bradbury and The Gernsback Continuum by William Gibson. When it comes to the debate on whether to accelerate or delay the production of artificial intelligence, the potential harms considerably outweigh the benefits, making it advised to be precautious and delay to prevent society from becoming corrupted by new advances in technology.
Artificial Intelligence is a topic within the public media that has existed for decades, but is now a concern due to the reality of human advancement and innovation in the field of science and technology. Many people believe that computers will become self-aware or sentient and view humanity as a disposable resource and gain supremacy. Reasoning that research on the technology should halt and not become more advance. Whereas others believe they will help catapult research and the economy forward, supporting the operations and innovations the technology offers. The complicated and divided solutions to the debate aren’t obvious, but there are more benefits to improving artificial intelligence than there is stopping it. Therefore, the negative effects people believe will occur can be resolved.
