In what way does Ramadan seem to reject Western thinking, and in what ways does he embrace it?
Ramadan seems to reject the Western thinking because in the sense that he strongly opposes to the idea that “ whatever is western is anti-Islamic,” that means "Islam has nothing in common with the West" while the law of Islam is to respect social life and participate in building a good society. He opposes the thought of being sensitive, oppressed by self-protection and withdrawal and attempting to integrate oneself on the margin, or as a minority: “ no withdrawal, no obsession with identity.” He also disagreed with the United States and other countries that have discriminated against Muslims after 11 September 2001 event.
Ramadan agrees with Western thinking because a small number of Muslims have separated themselves from society by negative actions and ideas. These people need to change their religious views. He accepts and defends the idea that western Muslims must be intellectually, politically, and financially independent while rejecting all form of paternalism and
Those are a couple ways that can help you out and how it helped out Europe. Also it document 4, it helps you understand more of why the main cause is nationalism, about how they think they will win. The United Nations is one of the most well-known international organizations in the world. It tries to serve the task of maintaining international order by promoting international collaboration throughout its 193 member states and various agencies. The United Nations facilitates order by the coordination of international security, international law, economic development, human rights, social progress, and trying to maintain world peace. Overall, the United Nations has failed to deliver on its main objectives which has resulted in the organization having little to no power. The United Nations’ shortcomings are evidently shown through the United Nations Security Council’s (UNSC) unsuccessful prevention of international conflicts, its organization’s ignorance towards human rights crimes, and the little to no authoritative power that the organization possesses in resolving conflicts as a mediator.
Islamic studies has become a subject of strategic importance in our multicultural society. With all of the political upheaval and ever present fear of extremism and terrorism in the world today, it is essential to promote the understanding of Islam and the role Muslims have in the contemporary world. To do this, one must first have an understanding of the culture and religious tenets surrounding Islam, compare and contrast these beliefs with Christianity and Judaism, and discuss how the perceptions or
The last aspect to point out in more recent times compared to the crusades and colonialism is the cold war, and how that has and will continue to impact the opposing views of western and Islamic societies. According to Samuel Huntington, the cold war the world was separated into the First, Second and Third Worlds, and he sees divisions are no longer relevant and it being “…far more meaningful now to group countries not in terms of their political or economic systems or in terms of their level of economic development but rather in terms of their culture and civilization.” Distinguishing people in the correct way can help further people understanding of the cultural and educate people enough to not fall into such prejudices and stereotypes. Huntington believed that there will be more conflict between the two societies in time to come. One way he expresses this is by the post-cold war conflict in the Persian Gulf, and Caucasus and Bosnia, now although these were not full-scale war between the civilizations, it still involved many “…elements of civilizational rallying, which seemed to become more important as the conflict continued and which may provide a foretaste of the future.” With that, it is notable to see all the differences that has risen recently between China and the United States in such areas
At the end, subjective conclusions will be made about whether transition itself is worthwhile. Each reader is welcome to draw his or her own conclusions. Whether transition is worthwhile is a question that will be approached from the people’s point of view and it will rely on comparison between Bosnia’s economic performance and the living standard in the country before and during transition. It will also consider future estimates. Political events that affected the process of transition will be taken into consideration because of their enormous relevance. Hopefully, the conclusions will be unbiased and provide important considerations relevant to Bosnia’s future.
In “The Need for Understanding the West” the author talks about the necessity for Arabs to learn and adopt Western ideologies and societies to have a better future. Khashan praises Europe for their open mindedness, stating that this aspect of European society is responsible for them becoming the economic and the political focus of the world. He also talks about the failures of Arab societies from foreign perspectives and also discusses how Arab nations are viewed as failures by other nations due to their lack of successful leaders, and for not having a behavioural system that encourages hard work, punctuality, and human rights. Finally, he asks Arabs to take a few notes from the West as a step toward modernity, but not before they resolve their
At this time, Austria-Hungary and Russia were both trying to take over Balkans in the South East Europe. There were many groups in the Balkan such as Bulgarians, Romanians and other groups that were looking for independence. Serbia’s nationalistic feeling back with Russia because Serbia desired to form one big nation with all of the Slavs in the Balkan. However, Austria Hungary didn’t let Serbia extend their territories as they anti these movements. The efforts to create a Slavic state would bring out a war. “The case of Serbia was even simple, they fought because they were attacked…Serbia would lose is existence as well as independence” (Fromskin p.277). Finally, Austria took over Bosnia and Herzegovina. These area Serbia also wanted to extend their border to. Serbian and Austrian then hate one another. The Serbians wanted to take away Bosnia and Herzegovina from the Austria Hungary, Austria-Hungary Serbian stops the effort from Serbia. In which later led to the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand. In time, The Russians came in to support the Serbians and the other alliances joined in for a full World War also know as the First World
Schlesinger utilizes this portion of his work to identify the ideological origins of the United Nations and to detail the intricacies of the organization’s foundation. He begins his discussion of the UN by outlining the political movements that led to its establishment. Schlesinger includes this analysis in order to illustrate the extent of humanity’s experimentation with international governance and law. The discussion attempts to determine key differences between the United Nations and its predecessors (Schlesinger 2003). Schlesinger then examines the negotiations which took place between the Allied Powers as World War II drew to a close (Schlesinger 2003). These negotiations resulted in the formation of the international organizations which structure global society today.
The animosity among Catholic Croats, Orthodox Serbs, Moslem Bosnians, Orthodox Macedonians and Muslim Albanians, led to Yugoslavia’s wars of the 1990s. Nonetheless, there were some hopeful elements and countervailing examples of humanistic values and peaceful coexistence prevailing among people of these ethnicities: the efforts of Yugoslav politicians who were attempting to address disputes through negotiation rather than violence, the steps taken by the United Nations to stem the violence, the actions of particular individuals to stem the violence, the friendships between people of different ethnicities that existed before the wars and persisted as they were going on, the friendships between people of different ethnicities that were built
I think it relates to the article of Witt (Discovery and Conquest). There are plenty of misconception about Islamic World in the Western world. We are invaded, conquered, and blamed, and I think history is not taking our side. We are known as people of the dark ages but in real Muslims brought civilization to the European world. Father of European world civilization was a Muslim named Averroes. I would really recommend reading about Islamic Golden Age and I am sure it will wipe all those misconceptions. Lack of knowledge and one-sided view of history has brought up these misconceptions. As a Muslim, I will never accept it. Frankly, I am not religious. It is just because I am known Muslim, and my family members are all Muslims. I want to stand
Yugoslavia was once a prosperous and industrial nation, but that all changed after Tito’s death, which led to the fall of the Yugoslav economy and the clashing between the indigenous people. Yugoslavia was center for commerce and trade throughout the middle east and Europe. Tito, the president of this time, was the main reason behind that. Tito governed the country with an iron fist, not allowing any one ethnic group more leeway over another. Tito’s death turned all of this around. The rise of the republic leaders especially the Serbian leader lead the way for ethnic battles among the country and the lack of government rule also lead to a downhill spiral
Tito’s government, while deservedly less notorious than Stalin’s, was not able to achieve much economic success, and after his death the country’s centralized leadership began to fragment. Tito was replaced with a collective presidency, but this system began to fall apart due to economic troubles, specifically
Arab unity, Lewis demonstrates, is now an oxymoron. Today no single Muslim polity exists, and this is part of the problem, or identity crisis, which the Islamic world faces. For many centuries there was one Islamic community united by one ruler. Even when that community splintered into various states, there was still a discernable unified state. No longer however. It is this divided and unstructured body that now is seeking to find its way in the modern world. Resentment, disorientation and despair have been part of the reaction and the rise of terrorism is one of the more pronounced responses to this loss of unity and hegemony. The loss of a coherent center in Islam, and its fall as a global power, is at the heart of the current crisis in Islam. Of course Islam is more than just a religion, it is a culture and civilization as well. For millennia it enjoyed the status as a world power. But the past century has witnessed a great reversal of fortune for this empire, and the responses have been
Is Changez a Religious (Islamic) fundamentalist, or does he become one in his rejection of American society?
Islamism is a religious ideology that demands strict attention to the laws of Islam, rejecting outside influences. The term covers broad arrays of fundamental and revival movements. Islamists have adopted a strict interpretation of these laws, sharing in the belief that Islamism offers an example for an ideal society. To achieve this way of life, regimes should be reformed or overthrown so that Islamic law becomes state law and ideology, shaping politics, economics, and social justice. Islamists believe that Western influence is corrupting the true laws and customs. The resulting deviation of authentic Islamic values is considered to be idolatry.
