In Chicago, there are geographic disparities that affect communities as a whole due to political- economic distortions and underrepresented communities that lack resources. The neighborhood I reside in, Pilsen, is one community in Chicago that is currently being affected by violence and gang rivalry. Pilsen is located in the Lower West Side area and is known as one of the primary Mexican American neighborhoods in Chicago. As well as issues in poverty and limited resources. The violence occurring in Pilsen has brought community members to advocate for change within the area. As a member of the community I have seen violence as a social problem that is being committed by the own community members who are residing in the area. …show more content…
The residents of Pilsen witness how violence in the community has affected the youth and the causes in which many continue to drop out of school or are killed. They have a different level of understanding and different perspective of how violence is affecting many families. Overall, it is how the community members have framed the issue of violence that has pushed many to advocate towards policy reform. In Pilsen, many community members have focused on the issue of violence and the ways it can be reduced. One way to get involved within the community is to gather members and construct organizations and after school programs that will get the youth out of the streets and individuals involved. A solution to this issue can be to construct an agenda in which the focus concentrates on violence prevention and construct resources that can implement this
Throughout my years living in Oakland I have seen violence and distress within my community. What most people hear about Oakland is never really anything positive; it’s mostly always negative. Oakland is known to have a history of gang violence, drug abuse, high school dropouts, teenage pregnancies, and social injustice. Within my research I find myself asking this question, ‘Why is there so much violence in Oakland? And what is the major contributor of this hardship that my community faces? Throughout my research I have learned that social injustice is a major contributor to Oakland violence, followed by the News media shown on television that also helps Oakland have a bad reputation. Most of the violence created in Oakland also comes from
With the leading number of gangs in the country, Los Angeles is thought of as the gang capital of the world. Employing gang suppression strategies that take distinct forms, from anti-gang injunctions to high rate of incarcerations, the City of Angels has failed to live up to its angelic name. Known instead for its demonic gang activity and police suppression efforts, Los Angeles has taken over media headlines as one of the most dangerous places to subsist. Representing a worrisome issue for residents, visitors, city government officials, as well as urban planners, gang violence has rapidly become a threat to public safety. Although current-day gang culture has eased off on the violence, it continues to be one of the greatest planning challenges

Urban centers throughout the United States of America and the world have experienced violence within the inner city communities. Many of the inner city communities are low-income and are poverty stricken. The spread of gang membership within the communities has influenced many young adolescents. One of the reasons is due to people being part of minority groups. The charges pushed by the judicial
In every city there are neighborhoods that struggle with the issue of violence, crime and aggression. These neighborhoods have also taken on the names of slums and ghettos. The same areas where children are faced with growing up too fast because of the violence, crime and drug trafficking that has taken over these communities. Not to mention learning the demands of socially regarding displaying appropriate behavior when they are outside of the disorganized community.
The City of Detroit has been a renowned city for culture, automobiles and many technological influences throughout the world. But, during the early 1900’s, the City of Detroit was plagued by gang wars just like multiple cities throughout the United States. Unfortunately, the start of Gang Violence has been a mystery ever since it started to effect the public. And feuds, like the “Gianolla – Vitale” feud happened during the Prohibition Era. The gangs were controlling the whole city. There we dozens of crooked cops, judges were crooked, and pretty much every official in the city was crooked. But why did all of these terrible things happen in the City of Detroit?
Chicago is facing a serious problem. Over this year 's Fourth of July Weekend, eighty four people were shot resulting in fourteen deaths. After this violent weekend, Mayor Rahm Emmanuel nearly called for total martial law, calling upon United States Military 's support to help protect Chicago 's citizens and patrol Chicacgo 's streets. So far in 2015, over 2,300 people have been shot in the city of Chicago, and it is only a matter of days until the death toll surpasses four hundred on the year. I believe the most influential factor leading to these high rates of crime in certain

Teen Violence is a big dilemma in today’s society. Violent behaviors usually start from family and peers, as well as teens observing it at there neighborhoods or communities. These behaviors are reinforced by what youth see on television, on the Internet, in video games, movies, music videos, and what they hear in their music. When children are disciplined with severe corporal punishment or verbal abuse, or when they are physically or sexually abused, or when they witness such behavior in their home, it is not surprising that they behave violently toward others. Teen Violence has had such an impact in our youth today that it leads many destructive things and that’s why we have so much violence today.
In my first source, Fagan emphasize three reasons why violence takes place. Those 3 reasons being marriage, family, and the community. He introduces evidence, talking about children with no father figures and how they are more prone to violence than kids who grow up living with their father in their life. Also, Fagan brings up many mainstream topics like race, school failure, juvenile delinquency, and etc. He wants to show that there are many reasons why violence is high in communities not just one reason.
Chicago is one of the most racially segregated cities in America with the north side being predominantly occupied by whites, the south and west sides being occupied by blacks and the southwest and northwest being dominated by Hispanics. Chicago’s minority dominated neighborhoods has been plagued with increasing homicide rates, violent crimes, and a growing drug and gang culture. The city has been considered one of America’s most gang infested cities which means that murders and shootings are a common occurrence in everyday life for the residents. The spiraling rise in violence means a greater concentration of police and law enforcement which instills fear and paranoia of the police and ultimately the government into the community. This creates an especially deleterious environment for kids growing up in these neighborhoods who are constantly drawn in to the allure of gangs, drugs, and violence.
